>>
>>130858457
If singing is the focus, yes, tailor what you write to your vocal range as that's got a hard range limit. But learning 1 scale/key on guitar technically means you learned all of them. It just moves up and down the neck.

Thanks
I've also heard key doesn't really matter, modes do
>>
>>130858495
Instrumentalists tend to write things that demonstrate the range of the instrument. I'd write a song differently if the melodic focus was on a guitar because I know I can add emotional weight to the melody by taking it places a human voice can't go (huge slides, huge intervals, speed modulations). In this scenario, the vocal isn't the real demonstrator of emotional weight in a strictly musical sense, I'd focus more on vocal rudiments. If I was writing for a singer, I'd expect a more nuanced performance of the melody in a smaller range than that of guitar.

Someone with better knowledge and philosophy of theory than myself would have to weight in on that. My instinct is to say that modes are more important if you're not changing keys. When you start changing keys, the ability of a mode in a different key to "sit" in the overall harmonic structure of the piece becomes harder to do because of dissonance. Again, I'm not a theorist. And I am stoned.
>>
>>130858803
One can hear what mode is being played. They each have a sound. Yes, it changes if the soloist stays in one scale and the underlying chord switches.

I don't have a formula for you but at least moving your scale once in a progression and having some key notes to get to makes a lot of difference.
>>
>>130855486
I've had a pretty nice black MIM strat with a maple fretboard I got used for like 300 dollars in 2018. I am now real into rory gallagher and have a whole plan of buying a sunburst strat with a rosewood fretboard NOT that gay ass indian laurel or whatever and then buying some pickups from a company in england that's supposedly sound like the irish tour pickups. Thoughts? any ideas to make it cheaper than buying a 900-1200 dollar fender and 400 dollar pickups?
>>
>>130858652
you can completely ignore modes it's not a necessary or even helpful thing to learn. how modes sound is one of the most intuitive things you can pick up by ear, and playing a different mode doesn't mean anything as far as the notes on the fretboard. it's just about resolution and tonal centers and your ear can do that. theory is better suited for more useful things

Cheers anons. My left wrist gave up on me a decade ago and I gave up all my cool gear and have been playing some bass on and off to build some strength back. Got myself something nice to really give me motivation to practice and be better than I was before.

>practice exclusively fingerstyle the past few days on acoustic
>go back to picking on my electric guitar today
>can now play riffs/chord progressions with ease when I struggled with them a few days ago even though I haven't practiced them since I picked up the acoustic
Why is this

Also I really don't know how that one anon is struggling with alternate picking, maybe it's because I'm 25 and my neuroplasticity hasn't even peaked yet but I didn't struggle with it at all learning it. No hate to him I hope it comes to him

I asked last week and nobody answered, so trying my luck again. I'm playing at a kids birthday party in a week and it was requested I play the rugrats theme song at the party. Does anyone know where I can find a tab for this or can anyone transcribe?
>>
>>130861268
>Why is this
Acoustic probably has heavier strings and higher action. Your fingers were pumping iron. I've been practicing legato on my acoustic a little here and there until my forearm on my fretting hand loses steam. I realized that routine was where my speed gains were coming from.
>>
>>130861268
You must understand that when people talk about struggling with alternate picking, they're talking about alternate picking the string changes, not just alternate picking on a single string. Or are you doing a bad faith smugness?
>>
>>130861337
Brother if you can't figure this out by sitting down and listening to it with a guitar in your lap, I'm worried about how the rest of your set will go. It is an incredibly simple single note progression.

A single coil is a single coil
Learn how to use EQ, and use a long cable with high capacitance, this will give you a lower resonance peak from the LC of the pickups and cable, and get you closer. Also, use the same type of amp. Not necessarily same model, but something with the same gain/EQ topology
>>
How accurate are songster tabs?
>>
>>130861836
That's what I am saying, treat this as a learning/training experience. Noodle around until you figure it out. It's extremely simple and is exactly the kind of thing you should be cutting your teeth on this early on in your playing career.

I think I'm probably the guy you are talking about, which is one reason I replied. Yes, I struggled to get alternate picking up to full shred speeds and ultimately gave up on it in favor of a variety of techniques, chiefly economy picking. That doesn't seem too unusual to me. Spend any time online and there are people who can't get their alternate picking up to the speed and accuracy they want and are constantly searching for the magic bullet that will fix their technical problems so they can finally relax and play the music they want to play.

If I wanted to play Metal on it I would probably replace the bridge with a Super Distortion. I doubt I could tell the difference with an hm2 and mt2 stacked lol
>>
>>130865296
The X2N is difficult to use with audio interfaces if you are trying to play any kind of heavy stuff since pretty much any accenting will cause it to clip even at the lowest gain -- maybe a DI box would help in that regard
>>
>>130865349
Honestly the gain Im using is relatively minimal, the hm2 has no gain and is just there to color the sound and the mt2 only has gain at like 30% or less probably. I dont know much about audio engineering but it sounds chainsawwy enough, while being able to hear the notes.

>>130865349
Im still pretty new, but heres some of my playing on the stealth. I'm practicing drowned by entombed. I can play all the riffs at my own pace and one or two along to the beat.

https://vocaroo.com/1giM8qaKG2OO
>>
>>130865361
I'm talking about the gain for the direct, unaltered instrument signal that goes into the audio interface A/D converter, into the computer to be used with an amp sim. The X2N is too high output for a direct instrument input into the audio interface (unless you have a really good one I guess). Trying to do any kind of riffs like this would just cause nothing but digital clipping unless I assume you really compressed the signal before getting converted, but that would really lame: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=473-w5R2EvU&t=261s

>>130867040
i feel bad about it when they tell me to improv or "come up with a solo" on the spot for a part

otherwise im fine with it, and they're mostly happy with me
>>
>>130867053
Yea that's how it is... I can relate. You can try jamming more and with more people and push through the suck so it'll get better. But a lot of the music I listen to is dead simple, some very cool songs are by people who barely knew how to play, are recorded by someone with a tape recorder in a crowd etc... so in the end it really doesn't matter unless I myself make it into a "competition".

>For much of his career, Berlin could not read sheet music, and was such a limited piano player that he could only play in the key of F-sharp; he used his custom piano equipped with a transposing lever when he needed to play in keys other than F-sharp
This guy wrote "White Christmas"... and 1500 other songs.

Name some SRV clones. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Kenny Wayne Shepherd. I've heard guys like Nick Johnston do SRV lines in their bluesy playing, but Nick Johnston's other stuff is too dissimilar to call him an SRV clone. A lot of the modern blues guys are way more Major Pentatonic-y than SRV. I guess pretty much everybody cops the Eric Johnson add9 pentatonic cascade thing, come to think of it.

clapton is the one that really got me into guitar lol. played very casually just doing chords and reading tabs for riffs but calpton specifically from john mayall through layla got me into trying to learn theory and scales and such to be able to easily play like him and understand what he was doing with his solos lol. then interest fell and I am now my motivation is reignited with rory gallagher and I am back to grinding to be able to play some of his stuff

What was your "Eureka!" moment as a guitar player? What unlocked it for you? For me, it was learning three note per string diagonal runs across three positions. I spent the majority of my time on guitar learning technique and basic theory first and fretboard navigation second.

It helped me learn i was being manipulated by my ex and helped me get over the split instead of becoming an hero. Seriously though, ex wanted to end shit but we had kids so I kept trying to "save it" for them, she kept telling me to keep trying so I did literally everything she asked. Nothing worked and I felt like a failure. She was trying to get me to bail so she didn't look like she broke a family and could play the poor woman that got left by the asshole. I kept working on it intead of giving up and I put in a ton of effort into myself and she had no reason to hate me. But she resented it more and filed a bullshit restraining order. I got it dropped easily and filed for divorce. The work I did on myself did make me a better person and now I can smell manipulation miles away. I'm in a new relationship with the greatest woman I ever met. 13 years younger than me but more mature than the ex ever was.

the entire model is flawed. a mental person is not going to listen to the person they need to listen to, nor will they pay that person money. They will however, trust the person that reinforces their mental behavior and enables them the most. That is who their therapist eventually gets widdled down to. Some therapists know this, exploit it, and are super rich. Others don't.

you went to therapy for a specific traumatic experience in your life. I think you probably could have figured it out on your own, but you still had a legitimate reason to go. You are not who that post is directed at assuming you went, go better, and stopped after they helped you realize you should stop being a doormat.
Most people that advocate for therapy are paying $200/week for a person to pretend to be their friend and listen to them vent about how a customer was rude to them. Society pushes the entire populace to go to therapy for absolutely no reason.

>>
>>130872414
so you just have no fucking clue what a strawman is.
A strawman isn't just
>constructing a ridiculous, false target to attack
it's
>misrepresenting someone's position in an argument to something that's easier for you to attack.

Ie:
>I think people should go to therapy if they have a manipulative psychotic girlfriend that makes them want to kill themself
>You think everyone in a relationship needs to go to therapy? You're a fucking moron!

Do you see how the person in this example took the very specific example of
>person in a relationship with a manipulative psychopath
and refuted it by claiming the first person just said
>person in any relationship
?
That's a strawman. I specifically addressed anon's reason for going to therapy and said that he had a valid reason for going, but many people don't. What part of that is a strawman exactly in your mind?

Anyway, guitars.
