Old thread finally hit its bump limit >>1750878 2023 started out as a crazy year on the collectible market but things seem to have settled down a bit Have you made any new acquisitions ?What do you wish to buy year?Collectible bike thread!!
that thing is ugly as sin
>>1941664That is the Delta V1000, the first production full suspension mountain bike , only 1700 were made , you have no eye for collectability
"Collectors" are pieces of shit.Even some old shitboxes like the BMW E30 or the Toyota Supra cost ten times more than they should only because some stupid idiots decide that they are worth it. No they arent. Same with bikes. Its old rusty shit and nothing else.I hate collectors driving prices up like you wouldnt believe
>>1941921Bikes are a shit speculative asset lmao, cope
>>1942311You are not the person that gets to decide what anything is "worth" You have zero say in the matter because you dont own anything collectible and you cant afford anything collectible Your opinion is irrelivant
>>1942311Smart people buy non-collectible bikes/cars/motorcycles that are good if not better then the "highly collectible" bikes. So instead of buying an italian road bike that might sell for 1000, you get a japanese one for 200.Or instead of buying a santa cruz v10 dh bike, you get a giant glory/trek session for 1/4 the price Cars are the same way. If you live in america just get a mustang or camaro instead of a 240sx.If you really want the collectible item then cough the dough up.
>>1942351>>1942459You're neglecting 50+% of the bicycle posters on /n/ who don't ride. They are content being the most knowledgeable bike experts while they masturbate in full lycra to their collector's piece hanging on the living room wall.
>>1942311Your problem is that you want the same thing as everyone else. Like >>1942459 said, broaden up your horizons and you'll find some gems. Meme bikes like Rockhoppers and Hardrock prices are ridiculously overrated because of reddit.

>>1942832uh. anon... this was for sale near me and I passe it up because it's too small. was it that rare?
>>1942986oh I just realized it's not the same bike, but it's a similar design
>>1942459a good bike for 200? where?
>>1942459>Or instead of buying a santa cruz v10 dh bike, you get a giant glory/trek session for 1/4 the priceWhat? Since when is a v10 4 times the price of a Session?
>>1943857At that time I found some really good deals on sessions and glorys, so it was kind of an exaggeration. However I have seen many v10's for 2k+ while similar year session glories are around 500.... but with worse parts so that doesn't really count.I do tend to see japanese bridgestone bikes priced 2x a similar centurion or miyata bike.
>>1941921>That is the Delta V1000, the first production full suspension mountain bike , only 1700 were made , you have no eye for collectabilityand in 2023 it looks like Shartmart garbage

>>1943935rude
today's numtot urbanism zoomers have no idea what a mindfuck full sus mtb was at the time, it was taken for granted that suspension on bikes was a stupid idea and would never catch on. the current arguments about disc brakes or electro shifting are child's play compared to the consensus on suspension. just as you can't imagine a world without tiktok and eating tide pods for dinner, at the time it was unimaginable that the default future mtb would have suspension and that it would eventually become necessary to even specify "hardtail" as if speaking of an exotic special interest niche itemin short, kill zoomers
>>1943935Yeah you are right>>1947210Full sussy mtb's are better grandpa.I never saw someone race a no sus mtb in ages.Sometimes i think you calliper brakes/ no sussy dudes all ride around on tarmac and the softest gravel trails.Try out some gnarly Mtb race route or some mellow trails without suspension and 26 inch wheels. You will literally die.
>>1947211Stop misrepresenting your group and being an asshole

I have a castellano fango It’s definitely a rare piece, though I don’t intend to keep it era or treat it like it’s made of glass. I ride it all the time.I do have another bike which is distinctly a collectible though
>>1990851An SE STR-29, 40th anniversary 29” quadangle This is treated more like a collectible, I feel kinda bad about it sometimes. Because I absolutely love it, I just rarely ride it. It’ll maybe see 20 miles in the summer.I have all the original stuff for it too, the pads and grips and all that.

>>1990853SE bikes are pretty much only operated by juvenile delinquents in those summertime "flash mobs" that ride around crashing into people and generally being obnoxious in groups too large for the police to try to do anything about. They're also almost all nonwhites too.I'm not saying you shouldn't like them but it's kinda surreal seeing /n/ nut over this thing when you guys are hostile to anything counterculture-ish, unabashedly racist, and generally not in favor of anything that isn't pushed by the mainstream instagram algorithm towards the 25-35 year old white male incel demographic

>>1942311>than they should.Anon here likes nice things just as much as the next guy but because anon here doesn't have as much money as the next guy Anon thinks it would be better if he got to decide the price was lower. Anon forgets about the supply being limited. Cautionary tale about communism, where everything is affordable but never available. Anon also forgets it's not 'Anon vs the collectors' but that Abon is actually the very same.
>>1997683the kids dont want to hear about supply demand curves they want free stuff now
>>1990851Looks pretty comfy
>>1992798the ST badge gave me a chuckle
>>1947211I've ridden plenty of proper black trails on a 26inch hardtail with dj forks. Granted I was 20 at the time, I do it now with a 27.5 hardtail and a decent fork. Good tires do a lot of the work as does going a little bit slower. Ab enduro trail bike is built for EWS level riding, a DH bike is built for warp speed on disgusting WC tracks, I'm by no means that level of rider but on a hardtail atleast the bike matches can easily keep up with most of what I'm capable of, on a fullsus I'm nowhere near good enough to test it's limits.
is this worth $60?
>>1999072Yeah it's nice and clean+the stock stem is pretty cool. Can't tell if it's a bridgestone cb-4 or a MB.The CB bikes are less desirable, but great as a..... city bike.Lower the number the better the components, but even a bridgestone 4/5 tier bike is still better then BSO/walmart.>>1997371based
>>1999078It's a cb2
>>1999090That is totally worth it then. I did hear this wasn't grant's "passion project" like the rb or mb series, but this should be a solid bike to ride around, and with the cb2 series probably mid/high level parts.
>>1999094good, that makes it 10% less gay
>>1999090I had that bike, new. U jelly?
Big bike thread
Does it count as collectible if it's literally a museum piece in a museum?
I been trying to get a hole of this guy for weeks now but he wont responde Its literally one of the only delta v1000 that has even traded hands in yearshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0aC4etHylAHe has no idea what he got
My fingers are itching even though its value is entirely in novelty. I'm just a sucker for gimmicks.
>>2004251>Does it count as collectible if it's literally a museum piece in a museum?not only does it count, it makes it the only collectible bike in this entire thread
>>2004332that thing is minty
>>2004341Do you live in a van?
>>1941921Looks like a Walmart bike
>>1941921>>2008090Looks like the Boofna Groofna Model 9000, which you can find on sale today at bikesdirect.com!! Disc brake, powerful!
>>1941662I have an old cannondale from 1988-1989 bought in Europe, with all original pieces in good conditions (some minor scratches and fixes), probably an SM600 or SM800, rear wheel 24 front wheel 26 so maybe SM600?.It has all the SUNTOUR XCD 6000 parts, DIA COMPE breaks etc.I would like to sell it but I wanted to ask you autists about current worth, I saw on a local website people selling similar models for 500 -1000 $ is that a good range?
>>2008165Dream on buddyAnything over $150 and you should consider yourself lucky
>>2008166it's because of the damage? or is the model inherentily on that price range?I would clean it and remove superficial rust ofc
>>2008166I swear that a guy from a bike museum wanted to give me 400 $ for it
>>2008169In that case you should not hestitate
>>2008165that isn't good condition, my brother has one of those in his garage that has no scratches and the original stem and bars, I don't know what that thing is but it's probably worth $150 at best
>>2008090You have no eye for collectibility
>>2008172In other words you have no idea what you are talking about
>>2008259how much would that be worth according to you?
>>2008927He knows what he has. No lowballs!
>>1941921From what I can see in the pic there hardly seem to be anything left of the original components. That frame and fork may be very rare to obtain in good contain, still the whole thing looks ugly.
>>2008165>Duct tapelol
>>2008972I had nothing else nearby at the moment ok?Now I put a cable zip band.
>>2008165For it being collectible it should be in near mint condition. That thing however is something that will be bought and ridden into the ground or used as a source for spare parts. Good luck
>>1981453I miss the days when a fucking cargo boat thread would stick around for 2 years.
>>1947210this. times 10.
>>1947211>I never saw someone race a no sus mtb in agesWho gives a shit, most riders don't race and even technical trails are possible on rigid bikes if you go slightly slower and choose your fucking line correctly instead of relying on suspension to let you sleep your way through the whole thing
>>2009139I used to pick my way through the local forest loop on my full rigid bike. Then one time I got the chance to try the same loop on a borrowed full-suspension bike. Bombing the trail on the full-susser was so much more fun, let me tell you.
>>2009142That hurts my feelings when you tell an anecdote that contradicts my pointpls stop
>>1949679My nigga
>>2009142Sure, but other people who aren't cowards enjoy a challenge
>>2009211How is anon a coward for riding a full suspension bike? What are you on about ?
>>2009479Trivializing interesting trails by using technology that eliminates their difficulty is cowardice, and anyone with a pair of balls owes it to themselves to ride rigid
>>2009483They’re different tools for different riding styles anon. You could argue the same thing about wheel size. What’s the point of technical features if a 29” wheel just rolls over them? Some people just don’t enjoy riding stuff in that manner. I really like crawly technical bits, slow and methodical lines. 26” bikes with no suspension or limited suspension are my jam. But I totally get the idea of doing it hard and fast on a bigger full suspension bike. The local mtb park isn’t a competition. Ride what you want how you want, just don’t piss on the trail.
>>1941662convince me not to buy it please
>>2010094
>>2010094nope, if it fits you should get it - branded 90's hybrids are great and that thing is cool.rack and fenders, a better seat and less ugly stem, and you'll have a really nice bike.
>>2010094>>2010095that thing looks sweetI don't see why not
>>2010095people have said that the carbon bonded to alu lugs like that are untrustworthy. there's a guy here who has one, though. just early carbon from that time was generally more sketchy than now. that frame is really small, be sure it fits you.the stem and saddle are ass but those can be changed easily.
>>2010094>>2010095Old lugged carbon is questionable because the adhesive holding the carbon to the lugs can degrade and cause tube separation. However, when that happens it’s very noticeable that it’s happening. Further than that, it can be fixed when that happens, it’s just new adhesive required.Especially on a hybrid or road bike it’s less of a concern, because you’d see the issue gradually form. As opposed to a mountain bike where you could lose a whole lug suddenly on an impact.I would only buy that if you intend to keep it pavement oriented.
>>2010094You should buy it. I love my Ti/carbon tete de course and as far as I’ve seen spine frames aren’t any less reliable than carbon on it’s own.
>>2010094>>2010095>>2010117>>2010123>>2010134>>2010280>>2010766sorry guys i bought a 531 trek 720 insteadthat thing wouldve gotten stolen from the bike rack and id probably break it
>>2012179still highly basedIf that's the touring/road bike I am thinking of doesn't it have a fair amount of tire clearance?
>>2012182i havnt measured yet but i believe itl take up to a 1.9 in the rear with no fendermaybe a 2.0???idkk il seeim probably gonna get 1.75s for fender clearance
>>2012182oh and its a hybrid btwbasically like a tourer but a little more similar to an old rigid mtb in terms of geo and componants just with 700c rims instead of 26ersi was almost gonna buy a real tourer a dawes galaxy but i decided its too fancy for a bike im gonna lock upi wish i had the space for more than a couple of bikes id so have a load of pretty collectables
>>2012204Ah, it's one of the newer trek 720's. That would be prefect for commuting, I like 700c for the flats and decents since I find you can pick up and go faster generally compared to 26's or smaller.>>2010766based. May not be collectible but it's damn rare after the 2010's to see any bikes with carbon+ti or any other dual frame material bikes.Used to be pretty common on weird bikes from the 80's on.
>>2012205its one with canti brakes1997 i beleiiive??guessing based on trek cataloguesabout the same age as the carbon alloy one i think
