Old thread finally hit its bump limit >>1750878

2023 started out as a crazy year on the collectible market but things seem to have settled down a bit
Have you made any new acquisitions ?
What do you wish to buy year?
Collectible bike thread!!
>>
that thing is ugly as sin
>>
>>1941664
That is the Delta V1000, the first production full suspension mountain bike , only 1700 were made , you have no eye for collectability

"Collectors" are pieces of shit.
Even some old shitboxes like the BMW E30 or the Toyota Supra cost ten times more than they should only because some stupid idiots decide that they are worth it. No they arent. Same with bikes. Its old rusty shit and nothing else.
I hate collectors driving prices up like you wouldnt believe

You are not the person that gets to decide what anything is "worth"
You have zero say in the matter because you dont own anything collectible and you cant afford anything collectible
Your opinion is irrelivant
>>
>>1942311
Smart people buy non-collectible bikes/cars/motorcycles that are good if not better then the "highly collectible" bikes.

So instead of buying an italian road bike that might sell for 1000, you get a japanese one for 200.
Or instead of buying a santa cruz v10 dh bike, you get a giant glory/trek session for 1/4 the price

Cars are the same way. If you live in america just get a mustang or camaro instead of a 240sx.
If you really want the collectible item then cough the dough up.
>>
>>1942351
>>1942459
You're neglecting 50+% of the bicycle posters on /n/ who don't ride. They are content being the most knowledgeable bike experts while they masturbate in full lycra to their collector's piece hanging on the living room wall.
>>
>>1942311
Your problem is that you want the same thing as everyone else. Like >>1942459 said, broaden up your horizons and you'll find some gems. Meme bikes like Rockhoppers and Hardrock prices are ridiculously overrated because of reddit.

>Or instead of buying a santa cruz v10 dh bike, you get a giant glory/trek session for 1/4 the price
What? Since when is a v10 4 times the price of a Session?
>>
>>1943857
At that time I found some really good deals on sessions and glorys, so it was kind of an exaggeration.
However I have seen many v10's for 2k+ while similar year session glories are around 500.... but with worse parts so that doesn't really count.
I do tend to see japanese bridgestone bikes priced 2x a similar centurion or miyata bike.

today's numtot urbanism zoomers have no idea what a mindfuck full sus mtb was at the time, it was taken for granted that suspension on bikes was a stupid idea and would never catch on. the current arguments about disc brakes or electro shifting are child's play compared to the consensus on suspension. just as you can't imagine a world without tiktok and eating tide pods for dinner, at the time it was unimaginable that the default future mtb would have suspension and that it would eventually become necessary to even specify "hardtail" as if speaking of an exotic special interest niche item

in short, kill zoomers
>>
>>1943935
Yeah you are right

Full sussy mtb's are better grandpa.
I never saw someone race a no sus mtb in ages.

SE bikes are pretty much only operated by juvenile delinquents in those summertime "flash mobs" that ride around crashing into people and generally being obnoxious in groups too large for the police to try to do anything about. They're also almost all nonwhites too.

I'm not saying you shouldn't like them but it's kinda surreal seeing /n/ nut over this thing when you guys are hostile to anything counterculture-ish, unabashedly racist, and generally not in favor of anything that isn't pushed by the mainstream instagram algorithm towards the 25-35 year old white male incel demographic

Anon here likes nice things just as much as the next guy but because anon here doesn't have as much money as the next guy Anon thinks it would be better if he got to decide the price was lower. I've ridden plenty of proper black trails on a 26inch hardtail with dj forks. Granted I was 20 at the time, I do it now with a 27.5 hardtail and a decent fork. Good tires do a lot of the work as does going a little bit slower. Ab enduro trail bike is built for EWS level riding, a DH bike is built for warp speed on disgusting WC tracks, I'm by no means that level of rider but on a hardtail atleast the bike matches can easily keep up with most of what I'm capable of, on a fullsus I'm nowhere near good enough to test it's limits.
>>
is this worth $60?
>>
>>1999072
Yeah it's nice and clean+the stock stem is pretty cool.
Can't tell if it's a bridgestone cb-4 or a MB.
The CB bikes are less desirable, but great as a..... city bike.
Lower the number the better the components, but even a bridgestone 4/5 tier bike is still better then BSO/walmart.

I have an old cannondale from 1988-1989 bought in Europe, with all original pieces in good conditions (some minor scratches and fixes), probably an SM600 or SM800, rear wheel 24 front wheel 26 so maybe SM600?.
It has all the SUNTOUR XCD 6000 parts, DIA COMPE breaks etc.
I would like to sell it but I wanted to ask you autists about current worth, I saw on a local website people selling similar models for 500 -1000 $ is that a good range?

Who gives a shit, most riders don't race and even technical trails are possible on rigid bikes if you go slightly slower and choose your fucking line correctly instead of relying on suspension to let you sleep your way through the whole thing
>>
>>2009139
I used to pick my way through the local forest loop on my full rigid bike. Then one time I got the chance to try the same loop on a borrowed full-suspension bike. Bombing the trail on the full-susser was so much more fun, let me tell you.

What are you on about ?
>>
>>2009479
Trivializing interesting trails by using technology that eliminates their difficulty is cowardice, and anyone with a pair of balls owes it to themselves to ride rigid
>>
>>2009483
They’re different tools for different riding styles anon.
You could argue the same thing about wheel size. What’s the point of technical features if a 29” wheel just rolls over them?
Some people just don’t enjoy riding stuff in that manner. I really like crawly technical bits, slow and methodical lines. 26” bikes with no suspension or limited suspension are my jam. But I totally get the idea of doing it hard and fast on a bigger full suspension bike.

The local mtb park isn’t a competition. Ride what you want how you want, just don’t piss on the trail.

>>
>>2010094
>>2010095
that thing looks sweet
I don't see why not
>>
>>2010095
people have said that the carbon bonded to alu lugs like that are untrustworthy. there's a guy here who has one, though. just early carbon from that time was generally more sketchy than now.
that frame is really small, be sure it fits you.
the stem and saddle are ass but those can be changed easily.
>>
>>2010094
>>2010095
Old lugged carbon is questionable because the adhesive holding the carbon to the lugs can degrade and cause tube separation.
However, when that happens it’s very noticeable that it’s happening. Further than that, it can be fixed when that happens, it’s just new adhesive required.
Especially on a hybrid or road bike it’s less of a concern, because you’d see the issue gradually form. As opposed to a mountain bike where you could lose a whole lug suddenly on an impact.

I would only buy that if you intend to keep it pavement oriented.
