The science is in, rim brakes are and always have been superior to disk brakes in every metric, weight, stopping power, aerodynamics.

The ONLY exception, and there are caveats even to that, is on carbon rims, which are gay.

Watch the first part to see the sciencey bit about how the industry lied about disks to force consoomers into buying cheaper to manufacture disk brakes for more money
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P4IIWsaS5I

tfw when they pushed disk brakes in order to usher in a world where everyone would be proud to pay over the odds to ride bikes made of chinese plastic, including fragile plastic rims that cannot withstand the forces of rim braking without exploding in a catastrophic fashion.

not going to watch your shit video, come up with better clickbait it's 2024 not 2018. the current clickbait options are:

-hookless: intentionally misrepresented strawmanning and why you're going to die if you don't do this one neat trick big cycling doesn't want you to know!

-secrets of carbon: we sliced up this brand new frame to provide you with no actionable information or anything that you couldn't have guessed through intuition

-chinese shit that will actually kill you: why it's the best and you should use my affiliate links!

-cheap bike vs superbike: we did this pseudoscientific test to show you why you don't need a $15k superbike (spoiler: the $1k bike was slightly slower but it's ok! you're not a pro! click anyway because we're desperate for clicks!)
>>
it's over get over it. you have your hold frame with rim brakes? enjoy it. but don't bother us anymore, just watch an elite bike race and you'll have the answer why
>>

Slow down there Grant.

Ah yes, the brake where the only design criteria was to be as aero as possible is the disc brake killer. I've used the previous version of that brake and it's single handedly the worst performing "brakes" produced in this millenia I've had on my bikes.

>but muh weight of rim brakes
Aluminium rims with disc brakes are heavier than equivalent disc brake bike with nice carbon rims.

Disc brakes are also the reason wide tires took off big time. Braking performance goes down the bigger the rim and tire the caliper has to clear.

I have literally never seen a video that does this, because it wouldn't make any sense, all it does is drag down the superbike by mentioning it in the same sentence as a $1k bike. that's why the official youtube marketing pieces for superbikes are just heavy breathing, porno music, and close-up shots of the bike parts that resemble human sex organs, you will NEVER see a superbike shown next to any other bike in superbike marketing

cheap bike vs superbike videos are meant to make casuals who would have bought a $400 bike think "oh that $1000 bike is a really good deal" (which it is, but it's still a marketing trick). it's called price anchoring and it's done in most industries catering to people with a little disposable income. $1000 sounds like a lot next to $400. it sounds like a steal next to $15k.

the shilling on that video is so good I almost feel bad for the chap.
Yeah brobro, just pray the rain gods will leave you alone on your lunch ride and everything should be fine.

Who cares. I weigh 90kgs and good uluminium rims wear out in 2 years. You can shove your aerodynamics up your ass.

Irrelevant compared to the person riding the bike at the speed he does
>weight
As if you can tell the difference in weight between riding with a half full bladder and taking a piss and shit before a ride.
>stopping power of rim brakes is better
press f to doubt

Also, luv me big tires on me racing bike.

GCN does it all the time and by that I mean I saw 1 video of them doing it.

>>1987230
>company with vested interest in selling rim brakes "exposing" the industry for making you consoom discs
Plus, nobody running an aero TT/tri setup is going to run comparatively shallow alloy wheels to get better braking, and apart from HED I don't think there's many alloy/carbon hybrid wheels left. Seems a bit contradictory to me to call out discs for having heavier system weight and then suggest using heavier alloy rims just to get comparable braking performance, either you care about being a weight weenie or you don't. Does bike weight even matter for tri?

This video is literally an advertisement for their product. Everything they said about disc breaks is true but they only really mentioned it in regards to aero TT/Tri bikes. Yes there's no reason for dick brakes if you just was a fast aero light bike.

All other use cases are unmentioned because, surprise surprise the dick breaks offers a better compromise for more people. Sorry to all the rim brake fags out there but it's not like you can't still go out and get a nice used rim brake bike
>>
What the fuck is this rim brakes vs disk brakes meme, I don't use /n/ often but I see it all the time, I've had bikes with both systems and they're both fine, what's all the reeing about.

hydro discs make my dick

200lbs, 6'5 here. I could lock my wheels in the rain with 105 tech single pivot caliper brakes in 2001.

But today you ride disc. LMAO. And you pay extra for a fork stiff enough to do it. Disc riders are idiot consumers and disc is the reason I stopped buying new bikes. Fuck the bike industry and fuck the consumers
>>
>>1994218
more or less this.
>>
>>1994218
Literally most people who ride bikes don't even think about it at all. "idiot consumers" it's literally not that serious for 90% of people. Disc brakes offer real advantage for normies and regardless, they don't really care

For the few people like you who seriously do care, you can still go get plenty of rim brake shit.
