y tho, like surly's are renowned for being gaspipe, so why put a fancy fork on there?
Beyond that, a slammed gravel bike? lmao

No roasting required.
>>
>>1999919
I put the ENVE fork on it because it got it for a reasonable price (200€) and participate in some road cycling events / group rides in which i get dropped like a brick in ascents. Did a 200k last weekend, without the rack however.

I got the pathfinders because I can't be bothered to go tubeless and they have better puncture protection
>>

not surprised tbqh
Race kings are just memed. Pathfinders i have heard to be good too.

Oh, and the 1 1/8 headtube is kinda chunky for a bike with such smol tubes.

hmm. That bike must have an agressive toptube length increase then. I can understand not wanting to go up a size and get a 80mm or smaller stem.

One of the reasons I like vintage bikes, most cap the top tube around 57-59cm and I can run any of those with 100-120mm stems.

At least you have good drop and those hoods are long compared to old stuff.

bad mech disk brakes or do you mean new rotors?
I saw from tracevelo that pad upgrades can help a ton, and may be worth trying out before you look at better calipers.

Bad Mech. First step is compressionless housing, then pads yea. Hypothetically these are some of the better mech discs, but it's not even the stopping power but the fucking RUBBING that is driving me crazy.

the other thing I need to decide is which sticker to put on it...

What? They're nice steel. But, even if they weren't they accept up to 45c tires so it doesn't really matter how supple your frame is. Unless you're one of those nerds that thinks small tires (≤28c) are fast on the street (they're not)

Based except take the bottles off of the frame, makes it look like a hybrid or something that isn’t as capable which modern hardtails definitely are. Otherwise cool lightweight trail missile, bet it’s fast. I like that you’re running Shimano brakes with SRAM mechanical 12spd, when you go to replace your rotors something with Shimano ice tech cooling fins would be clean.

Taking this as another opportunity to post the melon Marin
I really like this bike
I didn’t even buy it intending to enjoy it, I bought a 1989 muddy fox pathfinder I imported from the UK which UPS lost for a month, I presumed it was gone, so I bought this in a dilapidated state just to have a reason to use all the parts and tools I bought
And then the pathfinder showed up anyway, and doesn’t fit me because I’m 6’3” and a 19” frame from 1989 is the least comfortable thing known to man

Like this thing is super cool because it has all its original accessories and I’m a sucker for branding like that, but I don’t even have current show-y pictures of this because I barely ride it
I swapped the entire drivetrain to deore lx m560 in black as 1x7, it absolutely rips, it’s just I can’t get distance out of it because it’s too small for me

I sunk a lot of time, effort and money into this for it to just sit around and look pretty and I kinda feel bad about it

I upgraded the chainring from 42 to 44, now it's 44/22. The original plan was to relace the front for drum brakes and fixed gear rear. Now I'm conflicted on those plans, 44/22 coaster brake is perfect. Anyways, I already managed to go over the bars without brakes by sending it through a gnarly rock garden a klunker has no business being in. The front wheel got stuck between a rock and my momentum kept going forward lmao

Cumberland farms? Milk bike?
>>
>>2001440
thanks boss, it was a fun build and prepping the frame properly made a world of difference in the assembly. I also discovered the magic of Jagwire shift cables/ferrules and will probably never go back to shimano again.

I actually did think of the tsubasa bar at one point, but they're mad expensive on ebay sadly. I got these bars with brakes and shifter for 50 bucks which was insane, so I went for these instead of steel DIY bullhorns with STI shifters.

The wheels were a good deal and are semi-temporary, if I see some nice fulcrums or ksyriums I'd consider upgrading but for now they're good enough.

The ride is buttery smooth, and I'm still getting used to the bars, I'm getting a bit more confident on them on straights, but descending and cornering will take some time. Overall she corners pretty well, and I'm used to feeling everything on the road with a carbon fork so it's a bit of a learning curve and a different experience, but I really dig it so far.

>>2001446
Locally made frame from a company that no longer exists. I couldn't even get decals so had to restore it and get customs made up.
>>
>>2001445

I like those quill stems with the welded design, they slam further then older quill stem designs and are very light.
>>
>>2001549
True, but for strength you can't go past the based nitto jaguar forged steel stem.
Profile aren't bad and all, but the clamp tubing is generally thin and the welds are prone to fatigue for bigger/stronger riders.
>>
>>2001578
More of a cinelli 1a guy in a 100-120mm if I am going forged.
However I do not endorse 26.4mm stems or bars. Still don't understand why cinelli fucking made a new standard at the time.

My welded stems are old ITM/italmanuburi ones or 3T
>>
>>2001581
ITM AND 3T are probably the best made stems of the era for sure.
The 1A is a great stem too, with a nice chunky pinch bolt, the milano is also pretty cool too. The pearl and jaguar are comparable if you don't want to be stuck with 25.4.
I did have a 1A and some rare cinelli 14 bars on a build and they were pretty rad for sure.

Curious.
>>
>>2002533
Judging by the saddle height it clearly isn't too small a frame. The stem only raises the bar, meaning you have to bend forward less than on a 'regular' road bike.
These kinds of stems look unsporty imo and don't fit a roadbike's aesthetic.

That split.. those hoods are fucked right? The cane creek ones will fit those levers if you trim them a little with a knife. Get some off ebay. Your bartape job is shit so good chance to redo that also.

Your front brake cable is a little short. The cables should peak at the same height. The rear is a little long.

Your brake pads are askew. Fix that. Actually, get new brake pads.

I would delete the reflector. The quick release on the seatpost with the cam is awesome. Is that a rethreaded campy skewer lol?

Your front quick release skewer is on the wrong side. Is your quill stem overextended?

nylon mtb or bmx ones with pins and then back the pins most of the way out on one or both sides (or, if plastic pins, file/grind). I just get aliexpress clones.

They're so much nicer to ride than cheap/casual models.

If you insist on meme pedals then MKS make several nice ones, like Always , lambda, etc, that's what i'd ride if i wanted to spend more money on them.

Just stay away from classic style pedals unless you're gonna run them with clips & straps.

Hello my fellow cyclist. I, for one, have also partaken in so-called "touring".

Image related. I hope that you're proud of me.

sick bike. I'd love something like that. Think it'd be cool with a small custom framebag wedged into the front of that triangle. They're not that expensive.

Thanks bro it was a long time in the building.

I don't know that brand but you bought the frame and built it up yourself? neat!
must be a boutique brand if they still use Columbus steel.
how did you decide on what stuff to put on?

I had a mountain bike so I took the dimensions off a frame I liked the look of and had Marino build it for me, then swapped the parts over.

ah, so Mr. Marino is your local framebuilder or is this like an internet company ?
>the look of
so this is just aesthetics or you could see this geo was providing performance your original bike was lacking? good stuff . cool colors, too.

Mr Marino is a frame builder in Peru. He speaks no English and conducts all of his business through an intermediary but I couldn’t be happier with the service. It’s a little daunting having so much control over a bicycle frame so as to be able to pick all of the standards used, tubeset, working out how much suspension you can run etc but the result was great and all my questions were answered very quickly. If you google Marino Bike his website will come up. I think I used the last of his Cromor tubing. Here’s a progress pic for you.

And yeah it’s a competent bike, rides great and better than the GT frame but the main driver for me was wanting a quality steel frame in a nice colour. I do still ride MTB parks on it as well as road like today.

fucking cool.
that's crazy you had to pay to get it shipped from Peru but looks like it was worth it .
you should put some kind of bright colored housing on it at some point

Swapped out my 7 speed 105 for a mix of 8 speed 600/XT and 10 speed Campag levers. Seems to work fine and I definitely prefer the paddles to the Shimano systems I’ve tried. In fairness I’ve never tried Ultegra which would be a fairer comparison to Centaur but I like the “clunk” of Campag.

Only issue is with the modern compact as the frame is more built around a 52/42 or 53/39.

gorgeous
sensible spec
lose points for wonky front valve, valve caps, cables too long, overtightened cinelli stem (jfc)

the high braze on is annoying, i've had that issue a few times. You could maybe make an adapter like pic rel ? Or grind it off and just use a clamp. Or maybe just extend the slot a tiny bit with a file.
Or get a 110 bcd 52t ring. Those exist and you could keep the 34.

I fingered a chick there, lol

that is a clean machine, my man.
I really dislike the red housing but I'm probably just weird.
the campy silver levers and paddles look so good with your other components. too bad the hoods are black but sometimes there are aftermarket ones in colors.
never seen a 32 spoke wheel radially laced before.
