Why can't we build elevators that move sideways? These things were invented in 1852.More than 150 years ago. And yet we haven't figured out a way to install them sideways to make horizontal transportation easier? Is it the cost?Or just more bullshit rules and regulations?
Umm... You can use a travelator retard. Why is a box with fucking buttons necessary? Does it satisfy your child-like button pressing urges?
>>2015557Not even the same thingCan you use a travelator vertically? You can't, so it's not the same thing
>>2015558You want it to travel vertically AND horizontally ? Who wants to waste valuable floor space on a glorified travelator for fat cunts like yourself ? What a waste of money and my consideration
>>2015556Simply because our layouts are designed on a horizontal plane. An elevator that moves along the horizontal plane implies a living space that is along the vertical plane, that might be logical in space but on Earth and in gravity elevators remain as lifts. Anyways, elevators are the most underrated forms of tra/n/sportation so let's have a friendly and uplifting thread.
>>2015556>Why can't we build elevators that move sideways?Two-axis movement is staggeringly more complex than single-axis movement, and for getting around in buildings, it's a lot more trouble than it's worth.
Behold the horizontal elevator (it can even turn corners wow)
>>2015556it's called a truck
>>2015556if only there was some sort of commonly used invention that allowed us to travel distances horizontally
>>2015556You mean the Otis hovair system? It's quite literally a sideways elevator that floats on air.

>>2015556Tom Scott has made a video in 2017 about an elevator that can move sideways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdTsbFS4xmIThis looks like a nuisance that no sane person would install in their buildings. Just walk you fatty
>>2015556So.... indoor trams?
>>2015556What would be the point to be honest?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2g4u9F9i90
>>2016849There is a certain cool factor to this concept with the skybridges. If there was only a purpose to it.
>>2015573why the fuck is that distance covered by an travellator? Every lardass should be able to walk that distance. If not, then they should be forced to walk that for exercise.
>>2017030because they usually don't just cover a single hallway, but multiple. at airports it's not unsual to walk 2+km to your gate, which is faster and less frustrating with a travelator. you could just as well make fatties use the stairs instead of elevators, but that doesn't make elevators bad.
>>2015556This thread was made by an american
>>2017030Its at airports for people who have a short time between connecting flights
>>2015556>Elevator>Move sideways>Elevator
>>2017030I jog on travellators for maximum efficiency!
>>2017414>elevator>move downwards>elevator
>>2016995just...walk across it
>>2017923You're elevating the counterweight in that instance
It's hard to climb it's easy to walk dude weed sideways elevators bro
>>2017923What is vertical, clown?
