Yeah, retards who can't get hired outside of a 7-12 year flow will continue to get owned, and even better if other airlines lap these retards up. All flow hopefuls are retarded and get what they deserve.

I tell myself that the B747 was my fathers pride, not mine, and that by someday getting on a B777, it'll be the equivalent of it for this era. Short of getting furloughed and going to Atlas, I'll never fly the whale and I'll have to live with that. I'll never be the aviator he was, and he'll never see that aviator I became. That's life.

Either this or apply for cargolux, they fly the 747-400 and 800f, you gotta move to Europe to do so tho.
I’ll apply for sure once I get the hours.
It’s an airframe that is on its way out but I would like to give it a shot and fly on it for at least a couple of years before they change the fleet to 777’s.

At frontier and maybe wanna make a career here. If spirit goes under I think we’re gonna be in really good spot for growth along with hopefully getting a new contract soon.

Right now too with the day trips, I get to be home every night. I feel like I’m not gaining that much by going to a legacy and I’m not interested in the widebody life.

Probably drank the koolaid here, but the vibe is really chill and captains are cool

Some of us niggas are working our last job in aviation, as in, we are beyond working for Atlas, etc to fly a cool 4 engine heavy. I make more as a Boeing regional jet driver than I would flying ACMI again. I actually had a CJO with Atlas before the promised land called, and when it's a career vs a cool type, career comes first. Plus Atlas was handing out class dates 6 months in advance, so I couldn't even get a type and quit. A real shame.

>>
>>2017628
there is no "too many", assuming you're flying a tractor, the ASEL turbine tailwheel time gives alot of cool points in your SkyWest interview. If you're just flying like a C180, it's not nearly as valuable, but time is time and PIC is PIC. Delta will say you have "too much" time to be trainable at a certain mark, but I believe it's +5,000 hours, and who know what they're actually hiring these days.

A lot do, but a fear of heights is more a fear of falling, which is natural. An airplane operates three-dimensionally; altitude change is controllable and measurable, so the falling element isn't there.

I don’t really have a favorite airline, it can also depend where would you like to live and what kind of operations you would like to do.
Me personally I would like to fly for cargolux for a bit because of the 747 and the pay, but mainly I would prefer to go live in Japan for a couple of years to further my hobbies so I’m monitoring both jal and Ana if I can get on a 777 or 787 it would be even better.

Nice. I put some hours on a few of those, its surprising how well it straightens itself out when you land crabbed. Also, their stall characteristics didn't seem to be quite as advertised, I got a lot of wing drop once, recovered by just loosening up on the controls. Never found out if that plane was rigged wrong or if they are all like that.

General question for anyone on this thread. I quit flying about three years when I thought I would never get my medical back. Turned out I might actually be eligible for a first class, no limitations, no special issuance.

I'm at about 1100 hours, Multi, Commercial, no CFI. How would the job market look if I was to get back in? I would be willing to relocate anywhere. I know the airline hiring wave seems to be over, but how much of that has trickled into 91 and 135? I'd be all over flying a 207 in alaska, but I can't figure out what hours the 135s in bethel are looking for these days.

Is getting in the right seat of a caravan as "SIC" gone now?

It seems like dropzones aren't posting a lot of jobs, but its the end of the season for most of the country.
>>
>>2019037
Outside of being a CFI, you're looking at a stagnant airline and Part 135 market currently. Some regionals require a training contract, Horizon is requiring previous 121 experience to even apply. If you think you can get your First Class back, fight that fight today so when your medical is back in hand, you can get right to a better airline market. I can't speak to current CFI market needs, but yeah, right seat Caravan is not around currently without a training contract.
>>
>1300 total time, all rATP mins met except multi-engine time (still need rating), STEM degree magna cum laud, gold seal CFI, previous career at large finacial institution, mid-late 30s.
When should I start applying to regionals? Are any still hiring? Whats the chances of me making it to a legacy? I feel too old to make it to the top and have heard that DL, UA, AA don't like hiring guys past 35.

How? If you qualified for a reduced R-ATP you would have gotten AMEL Comm at your University. If you mean a 1500 R-ATP then obviously you don't meet mins due to total time. Chances at a Legacy are 99% if you spice up your resume over the next 5 years. Idk who told you some bullshit about age, but there have been 64 year old dudes getting hired at the Big 3 in the previous 10 years. The question is, would you be interested in a Legacy job over a LCC job due to seniority movement or upgrades. That you'll have to ask yourself.

Thanks for the advice. I walked out with a new first class today after a normal exam, no SODA or anything needed.

Thanks for the advice on all of that.
>>
>>2019304
Big congrats, I've heard the SODA process of old got tossed out for something more cumbersome requiring renewal, but again, big congrats on a First Class in hand. I don't think you should sit idly, but I don't have any good time building advice beyond muh CFI. Depending on the market, ATP-CTP may end up being out of pocket until the next hiring wave. I'm not saying you should pay for it today, I'm saying you should budget for it just in case you need to pay for it tomorrow. Don't forget the cost of airfare and hotels.

On a side note, not to make assumptions, if you had previously disclosed something to the FAA that'd kill your medical, and you #ignored it today, the FAA will revoke your latest First Class with a letter in the mail, because obviously your AME wouldn't know. I hope you made the right steps.
>>
>>2019336
Thanks man. I'm planning to get current before anything else and start looking around. Noted on the ATP-CTP.

On the medical, my AME and I were extremely careful to get everything correct and complete. It was a weird one, but ultimately the FAA doesn't consider it a problem.

Meant to say 1500 R-ATP. All the minimums except multi are in the bag. Just waiting for a slow down in student work load and for it to come out of maintenance.
Is it worth getting an MEI if no one at my flight school gets their multi there?
>>
>>2017263
Man my dad is a fucking unemployed drug addict. I really hope you know how lucky you are to have a real man for a father. Anyway both 747 and 777 are incredible airplanes
>>
>>2019437
I got my MEI and used it all of 30 hours before fucking out of the CFI world, MEI ain't worth shit unless you know it's worth your while. If you know you'll get students, it might be worth it. Example, you need 25 hours multi for an ATP and you get your Comm Multi in 10 or less hours. Most schools won't rent your a Multi to time build without an instructor onboard, so if you have to build 15 more hours, you may as well get your MEI training if you're spending the money to time build anyway.

>>2019446
And my dad is dead and his corpse dust is on the table downstairs. The greatest aviator to ever live, killed by a fucking jew jab I told him he shouldn't get, and now I can't tell him about my Legacy job or his newest grandson or sit down for a beer and stogie with him. It's a damn shame. Don't forget it comes time for all of us eventually, I'll be happy so long as I can teach my boy to fly like he did for me, maybe I'll be half the man he was by then.
>>
>>2019421
Last passanger 767 was delivered in 2014. So that one has at least until late 2030s maybe even 2040s. Though one thing that makes it uncertain is how often they get converted into freighters.

757 on the other hand hasn't been produced for 21 years. I wouldn't surprised if they stop flying before 2030.

The radar works on the same principle of echolocation, like a bat uses to find a moth. The radar transmits a focused beam of energy in a specific wavelength, and listens for an echo in the same wavelength. If the beam hits something reflective, like water droplets, it will bounce off and reflect the energy. When the radar receives the reflected wave the signal is processed and displayed for the operator to interpret. The strength of the return can be analogous to the intensity of the precipitation; more reflective is typically heavier precipitation. The louder the echo the bigger the moth, and the radar return is even measured in decibels of reflectivity (dBz). The time that it took from pulse transmission to received echo will yield a distance, hence the ‘ranging’ part of “RADAR”. Conventional weather radars typically utilize a parabolic dish that swivels laterally and vertically to scan a good chunk of sky. The operator usually has control of the tilt angle and preset sweep angles, as well as antenna gain (sensitivity). That’s the gist of it.

Here is me attempting to paint an aircraft with an old lower-power weather radar. The system is receiving a return because metal is quite reflective, but since it observed two highly reflective targets at similar distances it thinks it is one larger return and mushes it together.

Unrelated but might as well ask.
I’m doubtful about going for upgrade, currently at 1200h commercial (1400 total), I’m planning to leave my current airline (Ryanair) sooner or later and would like to try long haul as my next step.
I would rather do it sooner than later considering that I’m aiming for Ana and cargolux and getting there as soon as I can is preferable (the former for a mix of my hobbies and interests outside of work the latter for pay and job benefits), Ryan offers the upgrade as soon as you hit the minimum requirements however before jumping ship I heard that I need at least 1000/1500h pic to be worth anything, so between reaching minimums and getting the pic time it would take me at least 5 years still.
On one hand the training in Ryan is good and I’ll be a captain in 5 years instead of 7 or 8, on the other it means staying in this airline for a long time and getting based in the worst shithole the network has to offer (leaving the current base that I have which I like and pays well) and staying there for a couple of years.
I don’t wanna rush it either, it’s an important step and one that I would like to take with due diligence.

I have around 95 TT with 30 hours of PIC, did my training on a Cessna 150 (and will keep training on the 150) and the rate at my school for one hour is 174,02 CAD (13% tax included)

idk if it applies but in america taking the upgrade might not be the best idea depending on your situation. you'll drop to the bottom of a really heavy seniority list, much heavier than the one you'd been on
also yeah don't do long haul if you want a life. the divorce memes you hear about pilots mostly, almost entirely apply to those guys

In Ryanair is a bit strange to me, it’s the company that “pushes” command on you instead of you earning it like anywhere else.
It’s one of the reasons why I’m a bit hesitant in doing it there.
As for long haul.
My friend group already fell apart despite doing only regional operations and being home half the week (5 on 4 off but you get the point), no girlfriend to speak of too and I have a you her brother that can take care of my loved ones if an emergency comes up.
Long haul is attractive to me mainly because of the earning opportunities and to be able to see the world in a sense instead of landing, setting up and taking off half an hour later to go back to base.
Ana is one of the first choices because, beyond me liking the country, I would like to make something out of my martial arts career and going there to learn on my days off seems like a great opportunity to grow and live off it once I have to retire from flying (pension in Italy is a joke).
t.Euro of course

Really nice pics there, thanks for the link. I especially like the ones with the vapor trails.

If you ever get a Delta 220 or Kalitta 747 I'd love to see em. Flown both at various stages of my career.

What's wrong with me. I havent, yet, but there's been a couple of times it was like shit I felt the walls closing in.

So what's the demographics here? It seems like 70% are fixed wing pilots flying or trying to fly professionally, a few heli pilots and a few enthusiasts who don't really fly. Is this accurate?

Don't know what your situation is but I did my 3.5 years in the US Military, got out, and used the Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay for school. I actually get a monthly stipend of about $1500 to attend school. Over half of all the pilots at my school are vets.

>>2021154
hello zog. no i won't.
>>
>>2021156
Lol I don't blame you. That's why I got out. Just know you're entering an industry where the plurality are military vets.
>>

hello fellow post 9/11 user. I got a hand me down so I got all the money and did zero military time. feels good man.

Someone told me I should try the aptitude test to become an air traffic controller because it pays a ton of money and requires just practical training. I have a degree in computer science from a top 10 school (globally) but the entire industry is in recession right now which is why I am considering it. Any air traffic controllers in this thread? Any advice?
