Days are getting shorter, here is your last chance to ride a century in a comfy autumn setting, are you prepared? I will be bringing plenty of food this time.
>>
Not prepared since I have slacked off this year (contrary to some decent ambitions for outdoing last year where I came just short of a century and did lots of climbing and exploring, got faster) but fuck it I'm going to go for it within a couple weekends. My biggest strava weeks for elevation and mileage have been 10,000ft and 160 miles respectively so 5000 ft and 100 miles in one go will be an ordeal for me. I look forward to it, hopefully weather will oblige and I can maintain this early schedule I'm on to make it possible. Being a night owl sucks when you love cycling.
>>
I did a 135mi ride this summer. It was easier than I expected it to be but we did take it slow. 7000ft of elevation.

Did one on accident. Had a room booked for the night on the other side of the water and critically underestimated the distance around it. 160 km on 2.6 knobbies with panniers, into the wind half of the way. You can see me trying to catch a ferry at one point but they didn't accept cards and I didn't have any Euro on me so I had to ride back and around some more.
>>
It's still fucking hot. I would rather do a century with lights+cool weather. Luckily it doesn't rain here
>>
I've been riding for years now, I don't count miles but years

I, too, take my bike for a 10 mile loop around town on saturdays in may-september, if the weather's nice.

>last chance to ride a century
like, an every ~10 days days long training ride?
>>
>>2019427
Neat. Did you eat much?
>>
>>2019525
I made 4 stops total, had 2 of those mini pizzas from the supermarket bread aisle and 2 sweet buns, plus I think some crackers and sweets I ate on the bike.
I don't remember the breakfast but probably my staple of 2 bananas and a drinking yoghurt.
>>
>>2019514
Okay tadej
(Who am I kidding he’s doing double that every 10 days)
>>
>>2019427
Aren't those ferries free?
>>
>>2019728
Not for that one (Kamp-Karnin).
>>
I did 127mi/205km yesterday. It was mostly overcast but the sun poked out midway. Legs still sore today despite a very conservative pace - was low on sleep so precautionary approach to cramping and other concerns held me back from pushing it harder. Don't think I'll be doing it again soon, look forward to a nice loop ride on a more interesting route next summer with better fitness rather than a boring out and back. Maybe have a nice big climb or two in there next time.

specical?

I rode 100km for the first time this summer, and don't ever want to do it again in cotton boxers and jeans.

I want to ride my bicycle to a hobby shop in Orlando, buy a turbine engine and come home. This would be a 200 mile ride mostly through open grassland and swamp. I estimate that this ride would take an entire day to do with my Giant Cypress, since my 7th gear does not work, which limits me to about 20 mph instead of almost 30 mph. I also do not have the money for the turbine engine I want, which is $4000. I look to mount the engine to an abandoned bicycle on my college's property with the permission of campus security (It is a cheap Huffy, that is more rust than bicycle at this point).

What software did you use to measure this?

Ill do a true imperial century next year. This is what I tell myself every year. 100k is easy.
>>
>>2021479
same here! Did many 100km rides but never imperial.
I try to cut my drinking by only drink on 60 days per year. Whenever I ride 100k in one go I get an extra day. (mostly I drink the same day so it evens out)
>>
I rode 100km for the first time today, half on road, the other on gravel/singletrack. I'm dead chuffed. Thanks to this thread for the motivation.

I felt very exhausted after riding 90 km, half of it against heavy wind, on a hybrid bike. I don't think I will attempt to ride 161 km.

>are you prepared?
I need new brake calipers and levers and hose

did 290km in april on pic related

started at 7am, arrived at 2am. 2 restaurant stops, tons of food, almost ran over a deer in the dark, and one of my fingers was numb for a few months
>>
Only did 100km a few times because 100 miles are pretty gnarly where i live. I had 3000m of climbs on my 100km ride. Maybe im just not strong enough for the 100 miles

fuck that dude
jesus
nice tho

i have these ritchey foam grips on both my bikes, they feel quite comfy. the black ones at least, the colored ones are harder, see above.

Never ever rode a metric century before, I only ride fixed and after about 2 hours it kills me since I can't rest or shift weight in the saddle.

One day I'll get my gravel bike build complete, I've been working on setting tubeless wheels to non tubeless rims for about 18 months now lol
>>
>>2023177
impressive work anon
>>
>>2019427
lol did you estimate it as the crow flies?
>>
>>2021597
>60 days per year

bro sort it out, 20 a year is a better target, once a month plus some special occasions
>>
>>2019383
Did two this fall. First was a very long group ride and I got done 170 miles at a pace of about 12mph avg. Lots of stop time though for meals and chilling. Great vibes even though I was spacing out 10 hours in at 5am. Sunrise makes all the difference.

The second was tougher. 12.7mph pace but banged out 114 miles with only about 90min so stopping over the day. Thighs were feeling it that night. I think I'll manage another metric or something on a random weekday this coming month, I really don't mind riding in pre-dawn and into the evening. It's less about having daylight and more about having the day free to do it. All of my centuries have also been on the touring rig with big tires and low gearing too so that didn't do me any favors. I really want to spend a day on either my road or quasi-rando bike just crushing pavement, I suspect I could probably bang out a metric with a long lunch stop and still be under 6 hrs. It really tests your bike fit too.
>>
>>2025872
Surely a metric can be done fairly easily with a 2 hour ride, 45 min lunch and then a 2hr 15 ride to finish in 5 hours
