https://www.npr.org/2024/04/01/1242131130/migrants-lawsuit-flown-marthas-vineyard-texas-florida-governor-ron-desantis

MIAMI — A federal judge in Boston has ruled that migrants flown from Texas to Martha's Vineyard in 2022 can proceed with a lawsuit against the Florida company that took them there.

Three migrants from Venezuela, along with an immigrant rights group, filed the lawsuit. They say that Florida's governor, others in his administration and an air transport company conspired to mislead them and deprive them of their civil rights when they recruited and flew them to Martha's Vineyard in 2022.

In their lawsuit, the migrants, identified as Yanet, Pablo and Jesus say they were told they were going to Massachusetts, but didn't know their final destination was Martha's Vineyard until shortly before landing.

The plaintiffs say a videographer hired by the DeSantis administration recorded them arriving and boarding vans. But apart from the videographer and van drivers, the plaintiffs say no one else in Martha's Vineyard had any advance notice of their arrival.

In her order, U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs says the case can proceed against the air transport company, Vertol. Judge Burroughs dismissed claims against Gov. DeSantis and other members of his administration out of jurisdictional concerns, but did so "without prejudice." That means the legal team representing the migrants can seek to bring DeSantis and others back into the case as it goes forward.

In the 77-page filing, Judge Burroughs had harsh words for those involved in the scheme. "Vertol and the other Defendants here were not legitimately enforcing any immigration laws," she wrote, adding, "the Court sees no legitimate purpose for rounding up highly vulnerable individuals on false pretenses and publicly injecting them into a divisive national debate."

It would be pretty funny if they can get enough money from Desantis's pockets to buy a home in Martha's vineyard.
That'll own the libs.

The judge just ruled there wasn't enough to tie the middleman to FL directly. That said, DeSantis bragged about paying for this and the money trail will lead back to the funds they set aside for this illegal trafficking, so it just comes down to is Vertol either denying discovery or settling completely before trial.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis off the hook in migrant flight lawsuit as new details emerge

"The allegations that Latinx individuals were (1) specifically targeted, (2) the only ones approached, and (3) the only ones on the Flights, allow for the inference that Vertol and the other Defendants invidiously discriminated against Plaintiffs because of their race," U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs wrote.

While Burroughs dismissed DeSantis and the other seven defendants on the lawsuit, Vertol Systems – the airplane charter company contracted to fly the migrants to Martha's Vineyard – is still on the hook.

Lesson learned?
Ask some white people if they want a free one way trip to martha's vineyard

This, DeSantis already confessed to the crime because he knows Republicans are held to a different standard and won't be prosecuted.

DeSantis and his cronies were really banking on the people of Martha's Vineyard freaking out and locking themselves in their homes out of fear of the scary brown people he flew to them. They didn't inform anyone on the receiving end these people were on the way, but had a camera crew ready to film the stoopid libruls freaking out when the scary brown people landed.
It really never occurred to them that there are people who would treat them like human beings instead of political props in this world.
When the freak out didn't happen, and Martha's Vineyard actually came together to help these people, despite getting no heads up from DeSantis they were heading their way, the entire narrative collapsed.
What was even funnier was watching right wing rags like Red State try to publish blurbs about how the left loves immigrants until they have to deal with them, despite the people of Martha's Vineyard actively stepping up to help. Making it abundantly clear these blurbs by right wing rags were prewritten before the migrants landed and they weren't going to let something as trivial as reality get in the way of the narrative.
Then there were posts that came after trying to say the migrants were thanking DeSantis for sending them to Martha's Vineyard because of how well they were treated, but upon reading the article the migrants were all quoted thanking the people of Martha's Vineyard and none of them even mentioned DeSantis.
It was such a massive blunder on DeSantis's part at every level. It makes the fact he went from being the rock star of the Republican party to under-performing Nikki fucking Haley in the primaries that much funnier.

how did dropping them off in martha's vineyard violate their rights? its in massachusetts. Literally within 48 hours of them landing the governor of mass sent the national guard and all the state police to escort them off the island and onto mainland mass

Narrator: Martha's Vineyard is part of Massachusetts.

>The plaintiffs say a videographer hired by the DeSantis administration recorded them arriving and boarding vans. But apart from the videographer and van drivers, the plaintiffs say no one else in Martha's Vineyard had any advance notice of their arrival.
Was not a problem when Obama was bussing migrants to Boston Massachusetts.

imo this case isn't winnable but lawfare is fun for these losers.

Yes, this is how illegal immigration works.
>Court sees no legitimate purpose for rounding up highly vulnerable individuals on false pretenses and publicly injecting them into a divisive national debate
kek, lmao, lol ahahahahah, so its wrong when they do it but when Biden for example does it on a national scale its just human rights.

Thanks for the hearty keks.

Wait, you think rounding them up at gun point and getting rid of them is humane? If this is what liberals think as humane reaction then sign me up, this approach would make the country safe in a few weeks. Just get the national guard and all the cops you can get and start rounding up the brown people bothering the rich.

The gun can be unloaded, labeled, locked and guarded, and republicucks will still be able to shoot their own feet off. How did anyone think that this was a good fucking idea?

How does a federal judge in Boston get to a case for Florida and Massachusetts?
