https://www.ft.com/content/35f490c5-3abb-4ac9-8fa3-65e804dd158fhttps://archive.md/qe2PJDonald Trump’s team has told European officials that the incoming US president will demand Nato member states increase defence spending to 5 per cent of GDP, but plans to continue supplying military aid to Ukraine. The US president-elect’s closest foreign policy aides shared his intentions in discussions with senior European officials this month, according to people familiar with the talks, as he firms up his policies towards Europe and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.During his White House campaign, Trump vowed to cut off aid to Ukraine, force Kyiv into immediate peace talks, and leave Nato allies undefended if they failed to spend enough on defence — spooking European capitals. But in a boost for allies deeply concerned over their ability to support and protect Ukraine without Washington’s backing, Trump now intends to maintain US military supplies to Kyiv after his inauguration, according to three other people briefed on the discussions with western officials. At the same time Trump is to demand Nato more than double its 2 per cent spending target — which only 23 of the alliance’s 32 members currently meet — to 5 per cent, two people briefed on the conversations said. One person said they understood that Trump would settle for 3.5 per cent, and that he was planning to explicitly link higher defence spending and the offer of more favourable trading terms with the US. “It’s clear that we are talking about 3 per cent or more for [Nato’s June summit in] The Hague summit,” said another European official briefed on Trump’s thinking.Nato allies are already in discussions about increasing the target to 3 per cent at that meeting of leaders in June, but many capitals are concerned about the difficult fiscal decisions that would be required to do so.
According to the White House’s office of management and budget, the US will spend about 3.1 per cent of GDP on defence in 2024. During the last year of Trump’s first presidency in 2020, Pentagon spending hit 3.4 per cent.Key European Nato allies — including France, Germany, the UK, Italy and Poland — met Nato secretary-general Mark Rutte and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels on Wednesday night to discuss how the continent would adapt defence policies in response to Trump’s return.German chancellor Olaf Scholz separately had a telephone call with Trump on Thursday during a summit of EU leaders. Scholz later told reporters that he was “quite confident that the US and Europe will continue their support to Ukraine”. Senior British security officials travelled to Washington earlier this month to assess the president-elect’s plans. While Trump still believes Ukraine should never be given membership of Nato, and wants an immediate end to the conflict, the president-elect believed that supplying weapons to Kyiv after a ceasefire would ensure a “peace through strength” outcome, they added. After 24 hours of meetings with Nato and EU leaders in Brussels this week, Zelenskyy said on Thursday that European pledges to defend Ukraine would “not be sufficient” without US involvement.
He's just trying to push Putin into a corner and keep him there until he makes a deal.
Putin is nearly broke. The ruble is worthless, the war trashed the treasury, and the oligarchs have hidden all the money they could overseas. It's not like the good old days when Donald was getting monthly cash from him.

>>1369791>retards who don't understand Trump get fooled by their own hateTrump has always threatened to shut down NATO because Europeans don't pay for their own defense. The logic of the threat is obvious. If Europeans pay into NATO, then NATO is stronger. If Europeans don't pay into NATO then it is just the US and a bunch of freeloaders.
>>1369798I want to see your ass deep into the Ukrainian trenches right now, you coward.
Russia unable to prevent Syria falling and loosing it’s navy base there is probably as big of a loss as if they lost their navy base in Crimea over this war. There’s blood in the water now, and Russia might be cracking, so it might invite Donald Trump to continue funding the war. Regardless if they win or loose, Russia’s influence in the world will be far worse than it was when they started the war.
Putin would give tRump a bigger kickback if he played ball
>>1369799>USA - STRONGEST COUNTRIES IN THE HISTORY!As evidenced by being unable to afford eggs, having to lock up the butter as consequence of your economy swirling the toilet, being unable to keep the chinese from kicking in their back door and taking everything shiny from your already unable-to-compete companies they wanted, allowing them to get balls deep into your comms networks, and having an inbound leader that's already backpedalling on every major campaign pledge that got him the votes whilst he consolodates power into a chosen few and is installing state-funded propganda machines that will surely be the envy of china, russia, and north korea.Murrica! And there's more. That list aint got any of the concerning things in it.

Are you trying to say that all the campaigning threats were bluff and to sell a narrative to low IQ voters and actually Mr President is a puppet?
If he does send aid to Ukraine will the obnoxious voters admit they were led by the nose by rich people exploiting their outrage??Or will they just quiet down and pretend they weren't huge loudmouths bitching about "muh foreign aid" for years at this point?
>>1370005What outrage?I wanted him to cut foreign aid. Why did he renege on the promise to cut foreign aid and stop the wars?
Pretty sure Trump never said he would carte blanche cut off Ukraine from aid.He has though mentioned several times that his plan was to get the war to stop asap and would assist Ukraine in being able to defend itself from further incursions. He has though, on many occasions, stated he wants to give them less aidSo he hasn't actually deviated from
>>1370013So he hasn't actually deviated from his rhetoric from June: https://www.cnbc.com/2024/12/08/president-elect-trump-says-ukraine-to-possibly-receive-less-military-aid.html
>>1370014Wrong article. Here's June: https://www.politico.eu/article/donald-trump-ukraine-russia-war-threatens-cut-aid-election-2024/Even there he says he's just unhappy with how much aid they are getting. Doesn't actually claim he wants to got them off.
>>1370012Well your post definitely contains outrage.
>>1370021It contains a question.
