Social Security Administration to require in-person identity checks for new and existing recipients

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/social-security-administration-to-require-in-person-identity-checks-for-new-and-existing-recipients/ar-AA1BbW79

WASHINGTON (AP) — In an effort to limit fraudulent claims, the Social Security Administration will impose tighter identity-proofing measures — which will require millions of recipients and applicants to visit agency field offices rather than interact with the agency over the phone.

Beginning March 31st, people will no longer be able to verify their identity to the SSA over the phone and those who cannot properly verify their identity over the agency's “my Social Security” online service, will be required to visit an agency field office in person to complete the verification process, agency leadership told reporters Tuesday.

The change will apply to new Social Security applicants and existing recipients who want to change their direct deposit information.

Retiree advocates warn that the change will negatively impact older Americans in rural areas, including those with disabilities, mobility limitations, those who live far from SSA offices and have limited internet access.

The plan also comes as the agency plans to shutter dozens of Social Security offices throughout the country and has already laid out plans to lay off thousands of workers.

Sounds efficient.

it really is, unironically. Seventy million recipients required to visit a local office before receiving another cheque. This is a better boomer remover than COVID was, and will save the government billions that could be better spent on Israel.

>This is a better boomer remover than COVID was,
My favourite sociopath. Is being a sociopath very lonely? Im one and am very lonely. I have a dog and i love it as much as a sociopath can, but my life seems empty of meaning. This is why I waste it here. will you be my friend? can 2 sociopaths be friends?

I aint no fag, or tranny, just want someone to hang with and talk about burning down the planet. This is why I voted for tRump, as I feel that he can accelerate the process somewhat.

sociopathsanonymous@gmail.com

my boomer parents finally died(heehee) and me and my sister split the house when it was sold.I hope tRump really fucks up the boomers and all the diabetics etc when he removes their "free"medicine. Fucking leeches

All right, let's see if there is anything to this. I asked my dad, who retired 15 years ago, what he had to do. He called the local SSA office and made an appointment, went down, presented ID and his SS card, gave them banking info and started receiving monthly payments two months later. This doesn't seem to be any different, except you can do it with the online portal now as well.

Basically, it's the same as it has always been, but there is an online option now instead of having to go down to the office. So there is nothing to this.

I also asked him about voter registration, since there have been posts about "voter repression". His first election was 1980. He had to go down to the office and register and provide proof of ID. Then he voted. He was told that if he voted in every general election, he would be automatically renewed in the system, so every two years. He missed a mid-term in '90. In '92 he had to go back down to the registrar and re-register with proof of ID. If you wanted to vote by mail, you had to request a special ballot. Now, of course, you can do that stuff everywhere and absentee ballots are auto-mailed.

Bottom line: it is easier to file for SSA benefits now than it was only 15-20 years ago, and it is easier to register to vote now than ever before. The reports of repression are bullshit.

>sociopath
a made up word by leftists to tar conservatives. modern morality is just a shackle that (((they))) put on us to control us. you know what is evil? weakness. a true man is a warrior. they seek violence. they love violence. they have hearts wrought with iron like wolves. they do not know love for family or state or self, because love is weakness, but instead a deep sense of duty to the family and state.
>>
>>1393329
In the end, the only law that matters is the law of the jungle. We're willing to grapple with it while the leftist hypocrites delude themselves into thinking we can be something else.

Since the law of the jungle says that sociopaths like you will die out since they will never reproduce, society will become better eventually

Hey, remember all the bitching about "death panels" from the right over a decade ago?
>>
>>1393743
That was Frank Luntz's work. He fell out of favor when he said mean things about Trump.
>>
Can't say I have any sympathy for boomers. They got what they asked for. They will probably continuing worshipping trump after they end up on the streets.
>>
>>1393851
the reason that is funny is because Gen Xers got Trump elected.
Boomers (age 61+) voted 50% for Trump
Gen Xers (43-60) voted 54% for Trump, and a greater vote total than Boomers as well.

They will never get SSA and Medicare and they voted him into office.

Yep GenX - the generation that blames everyone else and never gets blamed for anything.

What a nothing burger. So if they can't renew online they have to show up in person. So the fuck what?
>>
>>1393902
Yeah it's really easy for the elderly veteran who needs a cane to walk drive over and sit in line for 8 hours at the office.
>>
>>1393912
Which is why the online renewal is available
>>
>>1393920
Very good anon. That's why that system was set up. And that's why it's bad they're making the online option harder to use.
>>
>>1393920
Boomers are computer illiterate and a lot of them don't have internet. You might say, they can just get family to help them with it, but it's ultimately just another barrier to them getting their social security benefits that didn't exist a few months ago. More of them will fall through the cracks, and its another small step toward abolishing the whole system and privatizing it (the objective of the regime, seemingly).
>>
>>1393974
You're clearly some millennial. Boomers understand the value of hard work and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. If older people need that money they'll put in the work and effort to learn how to do it online or reach out to someone who can help them and they will be happy to do so because they know that no rewards comes without hard work. It's called self-reliance, a value that the left has been trying to destroy as they continue their long forced March towards socialism and a nanny state
>>
>>1393980
They're retirees who already did the hard work you retard. All this does is prevent them from claiming their reward.
>>
>>1393981
No it does not. They have plenty of other avenues for claiming the reward
>>
>>1393994
How so? Let's say, for example, you live in Hudson Valley, where the only social security office just got closed. They now have to drive for hours just to go to the next one to see if they can get their reward for years of payments.
>>
>>1394021
>They now have to drive for hours just to go to the next one to see if they can get their reward for years of payments.
This is normal for people who don't live in cities and/or along the coast.
>>
>>1394021
Isn’t that only if you can’t be verified online and want to change where your check goes?
>>
>>1394028
>96 year old is supposed to get online
They know most people over a certain age don't have internet. It's part of the plan.
>>
>>1394034
oops replied to the wrong person meant for >>1394030
>>
>>1393902
exactly. this is how it was done for the first 70 years of SSA. Now everyone wants everything delivered right to their door.
>>
you fucking idiots. everyone over 65 is already collecting benefits and doesn't have to do anything as long as the banking information is the same. You get your account set up and the cheque goes in and you are set.

The new rules only apply to new accounts or changing your deposit info. So only people under 62-65 have to deal with it -- that is Gen X and younger.
