Democrats have announced their intent to fold like lawn chairs, finally ending the Democrat Shutdown and to take Republicans up on their offer to negotiate healthcare without holding the government hostage

Thune has repeatedly promised to negotiate with Democrats on extending ACA subsidies once the government is open and has even offered them a vote on their own proposal to extend those tax credits beyond December

The GOP leader, however, has stuck to his position that he won’t negotiate specific health care policy concessions with Democrats while the government remains closed.

Senate GOP, Democrats looking for ‘off-ramp’ to end shutdown next week

Senate Republicans and Democrats are trying to hammer out a proposal to end the 30-day government shutdown as soon as next week, as some centrist Democrats argue behind the scenes that their party has successfully highlighted rising health care costs and it’s time to end the stalemate.

Shutdown fatigue on Capitol Hill is growing as the government stoppage approaches the one-month mark, and the pain is increasing.

With open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) marketplace set to begin next month, Democrats say the higher costs are already baked in because Republicans have steadfastly refused to extend enhanced subsidies that are due to expire at the end of December.

“My assessment is that we’ve won anything that we can possibly win and the costs of continuing the shutdown are going to be felt by people who are going to food banks and federal employees,” said one Democratic senator, who argued that any political benefit of extending the shutdown is about to be outweighed by the harms inflicted on ordinary Americans.

A huge factor in this thinking is that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are due to expire Saturday, putting 42 million Americans at risk of not having enough to eat.

I agree with this
Democrats are going to keep the government shut down, they don't care
>>
I bet OP has a beige computer.

The other factor Democrats are weighing is pressure from the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 820,000 federal and D.C. government workers, to pass a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government.

Everett Kelley, the union’s president, said in a statement Monday that “both parties have made their point” and it’s time to pass a clean stopgap funding measure to “end this shutdown today.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters Wednesday that moderate Democrats are looking for an “off-ramp” to end the shutdown and he’s willing to talk to them about the concessions he has already offered.

Specifically, Thune has promised to negotiate with Democrats on extending the ACA subsidies once the government is open and has even offered them a vote on their own proposal to extend those tax credits beyond December.

The GOP leader, however, has stuck to his position that he won’t negotiate specific health care policy concessions with Democrats while the government remains closed.

“It’s just a question of whether or not they are at some point willing to take ‘yes’ for an answer,” Thune said of moderate Democrats who are eager to find a deal to end the shutdown.

Even Republicans are admitting that Republicans are causing the shutdown
That's why Johnson won't reopen the House. He knows if he does Senate Republicans will negotiate with Democrats.
>>
>>1453774
>That's why Johnson won't reopen the House

Adelita Grijalva won a special election on September 23, 2025, but was not sworn into office. House Speaker Johnson argued that the House must be in legislative session to swear in a new member, and that the House was out of session because Democrats were refusing to end the shutdown. In April, Republican Representatives Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine were sworn in during a pro forma session less than 24 hours after their election, so House Speaker Johnson is a giant faggot.

Adelita Grijalva would provide the last needed signature to advance a bipartisan effort led by Massie and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna to direct the Department of Justice to release the full tranche of the Epstein Files. House Speaker Johnson and the GOP are protecting their fellow pedophiles. Simple as.
>>
The way things are now with that new senate bill to stop the tariffs and Johnson refusing to reopen the House to handle any kind of stopgap or emergency bills such as that one, all the blame is coming down on Johnson alone. It shouldn't, but it looks like it will.

>Adelita Grijalva won a special election on September 23, 2025, but was not sworn into office
Her date to be sworn in was October 7th. Democrats had already shut down the government by then.

For fucks sake, congress had been out of session two weeks before she won that special election.

source.

>source.
Sure, while collecting sources I found out her original date was planned for October 7th and then pushed to the 14th because the election wasn't certified yet by the state
her election wasn't actually certified until October 12th, at which point Congress had been shut down basically a month https://www.tucsonsentinel.com/local/report/101425_grijalva_congress/arizona-certifies-cd7-election-but-grijalva-still-blocked-from-taking-office/
>>
>>1453807
I see her Wikipedia page does also state that she was originally set to be sworn in on October 7 and then it was postponed to the 14th
