Bikefuckers
great OP pic
I think I'm getting my gs TODAY and the weather is SHIT for another week at least.
I've been thinking about getting a Honda XR150L to try out owning a small dual sport for the first time with relatively little financial commitment. Does anyone here have experience with that bike?
I've almost had my bike for a year now and I still haven't gotten the mirrors where I want them
Got my first bike on Monday. Triumph Scrambler 400x. I am immediately in love
>>27584976just remove them
>>27584980HELL YEAH BROTHER
>>27584964how is it that adv bikes are this good? once you get on a gs you feel like you could ride forever, and when you hit the corners it turns into a giant supermoto. you can even buy good tires for 19" and 21" fronts now. truly blessed.

The Ute has just been standing in my year for more than a year and its got a knocking sound on the engine I dont wanna spend the money to fix because I've already redone the gasket, head etc. It became a money pit

>>27585058>Is that a drz?no, it's a Yamaha TT600 (the cooler version of the XT 600), but here for you I also had a (two) DRZ at the Ring.Traffic heavily depends on when you're there, in the video it was the "Anlassen" event, a church service at the beginning of the biking season where you show up at the Ring with your bike and get blessed for the season. New gasket on the left, old on the right. Red circles on holes that were missing and lines on holes prev owner drilled. I think I can do a better job
>>27585461Is this a genuine part? Sometimes manufacturers use gasket hole size to regulate coolant or oil flow in order to solve some problem they found after the engine was in production. Or their supplier fucked it up (Honda most likely didn't make that gasket themselves.)

tried out a CB 650R with e-clutch today. its funny as fuck. its a better quickshifter while driving and just a stop n go for city traffic. the dealership also showed me his order/sales list. they sell well, very well. he ordered 10 from each colour (4) and 15 CBR650R of each colour (2) and only has 6 not sold yet out of the 70. If he orders more now delivery date is set to 03.2025he reserved me a green cb and a black cbr till Monday to make up my mind.
>>27585289TCX has always seemed to be perpetually on closeouts in North America as long as I remember, it's just a low volume brand
>>27585550>>27585550unfortunately i had an accident while driving home with my car. already spent 300 on a new set of tires (ironically i wanted to change from winter to summer tires when i got home) and need to stop at the shop next week to see if some shit needs to be replaced. left back break is grinding and maybe some other shit....so for now the cb650 will have to wait to fix up the car first....funny that i crashed with 140kmh into a wall and my first thought was "fuck might need to pospone the new bike"
>>27585476>>27585538You were right! Both manual and CMSL show gasket like this. Searching the part code also shows an identical one.The old gasket is different though, it didn’t have the smaller holes, they were drilled. I was ready to nig it after cleaning it
>>27585568Yay!
>>27585560Yeah your first thought should have been to hit the brakes
Fellers, took the gs out for our first spin. Was supposed to be raining today, but almost as an act of divine humor, right as I got the bike home - sunshine.I fucking love this bike. I've only done 80km but I already feel twice as confident on this than my transalp. It blows my mind that this bike is only 20kg heavier, but it feels soooo much better and carries it's weight like nothing I've ever ridden before. No wonder there are so popular.Even took it on a little dirt track with 100% road tires, the floating front tire was sketchy, but we pulled through. I my new bike.

>>27585582blessed
>>27585528Its virtues are its flickability, its versatility, and its ease of maintenance (I took half the engine apart to replace the cylinder as a fresh wrenchlet). However, after a year of riding it, its relative lack of power and top-end performance are getting to me.
>>27585682One of my friends is planning to buy one of these. I own a G310 myself.

>>27585793No. I Most definitely not that CP2 engine. IIRC his retard had an ECU flash and a whole bunch of things done so he'd be pushing over 80hp at the rear wheel.
>>27585793Because one dude basically intentionally fucked his engine up?
>>27585809usual case for ktms too though, 390's notwithstanding.
>>27585810Not really. KTMs come high strung, this dude made his engine like that himself. Any garage mechanic can get HP numbers that KTM gives in their engines with similar engines, there's a reason most manufacturers don't.
Do you ever just look at your bike and think about it

>>27585339I love my icon and sidi shoes lads
>>27585420Update: The job wasn't finished today.Everything is wired up and looking ok (very cramped now) but the battery was flat so actual test has to wait until tomorrow.
How do you clean your tires?
>>27585827All the time. I think about who it’s previous owners might’ve been, how much work it still needs, and how much it would break my heart to give up on it.
>>27585827I don't even need to look at it
>>27585220My friend has one, and I have a 300L. I think the power of the 450 is overkill for what we like to do, which is mostly rocky and steep forest terrain in Northwest NJ, as well as playing around on the electric company's land. The 300 has a really low first gear so it has as much torque in first but just goes a little slower which I actually prefer. The 300 is also a lot more fuel efficient and gets to use the cheap gas, but it still goes fast enough for the highway. I have a full exhaust and a tune and it goes 80mph easily. I would only get the 450 if you are going to be riding on a track and doing jumps because that's the only place you'll need the extra power and will appreciate the significantly upgraded suspension.
>>27584964What happens when you drop these wide boxer bikes? Does the whole engine break when it hits the ground?

Everyone says the only downside of the 300L compared to the KLX300 is that the suspension is too soft and squishy. The Honda has the good engine and the Kawi has the good suspension, that's what they say. Well, I agree that the suspension is very soft and squishy but I actually think it's preferable that way for casual or low-speed technical riding because it's really comfortable and compliant. It's also preferable for just riding around town for the same reason. This bike can drive over curbs and logs like they're not even there and it feels like you're on a couch. I weigh 160lbs and I've never bottomed it out.
How much should I pay for a 999 with no service records?Should he be paying me instead to take it?
>>27585961the people calling the crf300l too soft weigh 40lb+ more than you
>>27585550The whole order/sales is a seller trick, I remember my seller telling me that there is a 6 month wait list to get my Honda but, oh! The exact model that I want is available because someone else bailed out. He even told me to not say "That was a fast delivery!" When getting my bike at the shop because the others sellers may get mad.
>>27585927Unfortunately I have nothing solid to lock it to. And landlord wouldn't want me drilling anchors into the parking lot. I do have a wheel lock and a cover, and fortunately I don't live in a shithole. There are a fair amount of people who park bikes in the open here.I still would like to put a GPS tracker on it. This thing is a sauna, zero ventilation, zero rain protection, just heat and humidity. Can't comprehend how it manages to funnel water in but can't manage airflow. I managed to break the plastic off on one of the pads as I was pulling them out to dry. The helmet tapers down toward the neck and the neckroll is eps foam for some reason, making it basically a birth canal, blood inclusive. I managed to cut my ear on something. Never going to buy a bike that needs premium gas. Just means the engineers went to great lengths to optimize every single bit of power they could eek out of it possible and it's going to be high strung af, touchy, maintenance heavy, and unreliable.
cp2 is the best engine ever made. Sorry I font make the rules.

going camping and need to secure my duffle bag and tent and shit to the back of my bike, are these style of tie downs fine or should I go for the full ratchet straps? These look more convenient but dunno if they hold properly

>>27586690Why would anyone go for a grom over a throttle only e-bike like a talaria/sur-ron or thereabouts?
>>27585827I think about how I've let it down...
>>27586707Right now it seems like objectively the best bike to get into stunting on
>>27586630Nobody needs 50 lb ft of torque.
>>27586714Minis and pit bikes aren't good for learning on since you can basically go full speed at all times, it won't teach you what your limits areSame thing with little e-bikes
>>27586726but it's fun
>>27586599>sight glass on kickstand side empty When did you change the oil? New cp2 engines with sight glasses on the left should always have oil in them.. could have a burned valve if there’s none in it.
>>27586733All the best stunters say groms are great for learning so I will trust them over 4channers
>>27586745Yeah, I was second-guessing myself after posting thatMinis probably teach you body positioning at a low risk which is more important for stuntingI still think minis aren't great for learning to ride on the street unless you're a kid
>cover hole previous owner cut in airbox>bike runs better and now picks the front up in 2ndwhy the fuck do people do this shit, I just do not get it.
>>27586759boomer brains are rotten soup, see also "fuddlore" about guns
>>27586756The grom is better than most minis in that it has gears+clutch, is surprisingly uncramped for it size (still a 30"ish seat height) and has a really nice first and second gear.
>>27586745Yeah that’s what I heard. I couldn’t bring myself to ride a grom so I got a dual sport, learned how to wheelie on it but looped twice (so far, hopefully that’s it). Probably would have been less risky on a grom. The balance point on them is pretty low from what I’ve seen, so you can learn rear brake a little more safely maybe. Never ridden one though. Never will either.
This general exclusively gives bad advice
>>27586781ok. See you in the next thread.
>>27586765In middle school a buddy of mine found a 2-stroke pit bike and we got it running on a weekend and there's nothing to learn on those, you can go WOT, stab the clutch, pin the brakes, they're tons of fun but you can't really fuck anything upNothing to lose, nothing to learnBut like I said I do see the argument for stunting since that's more of a physical skill than a riding skillI can't believe none of us ever got in trouble with that thing come to think of it

My brain still can't accept that valve checks on modern street bikes are real. Like all of the modern engineering and reduced maintenance on modern bikes and even a Goldwing that has an engine with the performance parameters of a '92 Civic is supposed to have half the bike torn apart for this shit, you can put a thousand service manuals and internet videos and shit in front of me to show it objectively exists but I can't truly believe.
>>27586883I'm just not going to check them until something becomes evident. People go 200 000 miles without having to adjust them.

>>27586883Bikes in the door=money. Some bikes had hydraulic valve lash adjusters like the nighthawk 750, most harley's, many metric cruisers. No one cares.Oh, and the reason it's required is bikes get more performance every year and the metalurgy doesn't just magically get better.>>27586862Not my problem. If the price is to high I don't even bother, they can get fucked.
>>27586892>>27586883How would you notice anything?Do they make a sound or affect performance?
>>27586711grom stunt bikes
>>27586901yeah they could do either or those or both if theyre out of adjustment
>>27586897>Oh, and the reason it's required is bikes get more performance every year and the metalurgy doesn't just magically get better. No they don't lmao. Lots of bikes have less power than 15 years ago or so because they've been detuned for emissions and noise with no meaningful engineering improvements to compensate, a bunch have jacked up displacement just to hold steady, and even in categories where they have gone up they've gone up much less than cars have in the same period of time.
>>27586860I can see a case for the ebike. At the moment, they're basically pushbikes requiring no license, registration, insurance, and can be taken anywhere a pushbike can be taken.
https://youtube.com/shorts/8YL1DalWtFI?si=eTavT7GOGDMqCo3ZI love motorcycles No, you don't understand, I LOVE motorcycles
>>27586873Cute
>>27586901if the valve clearance is too tight you can lose cylinder compression, too tight exhaust valves will burn up. if the bike is has multiple carbs it can really fuck up the synchronization of them because you have different amounts of air coming into the theoretically same displacement cylinders.
>>27586903Can you describe the sound or performance issue it might causeI'm trying to diagnose my bike problems but have no idea what is causing the noise for my bikeIt's a whiny noise, like it wants to just give up on life
>>27586938https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkH6NDmuzMs this is a great example of tight valves.
Royal enfields need valve checks ever 10k miles. I wonder if they are easier to work on with those bikes because that would be annoying.
>>27585748Depends on how dedicated you are to learning what you don't know before you start working on it. Entirely possible, and a Ptwin will be simpler than a i4. You need>Workshop manual>A workshop or area the bike can sit undisturbed while you work on it>The correct toolsDo NOT skimp out on tools. The correct tool can turn a nightmare job that takes hours into a simple job that takes 10 minutes. https://www.r7forums.com/threads/service-manual-links.95/#post-699Anyway, start small. Watch all the YouTube videos you can find and take it slow. I'd suggest doing a fork oil service to dip your toes in.

>>27586953Adding to that, I've done a full rebuild on a KLX650R and I do all the servicing on my Fireblade. I am not a skilled mechanic but I do enjoy watching wrenching videos on YouTube. Keep posting your progress here and keep asking for advice. Join that R7 forum and lurk there, often really good information in those places. You'll make it bro, we're all gonna make it.
>>27586963Also, always diagnose before assuming. You say piston rings because it's consuming oil, but you should do a compression and leak down test to verify. Could save you a lot of time and money
>>27586289homie put some fuckin rtv on that bitch and loosen that hose clamp a lil that shit's gonna tear lmao
>>27586950Well they are single cam singles and twins in bikes with no bodywork so it's not exactly doing a 20 valve R1
>>27585857300 looks like a fine machine, I have a tw200 which I am going to keep, it’s a good time, just looking for something a little quicker, lighter, with better suspension. valid point about low first gear, it is nice on the tw.>>27586203Nice ride. I want something with a little longer service interval though.
>>27586971I never found much issue with valves, a little notepad and a pen, some algebra, and it's done.Biggest issue is the whole second guessing yourself when doing valves.>hmm the 0.022 went in, but it did take a little bit of force... >let me try the 0.019...>does this one feel loose? let me try the 0.022>do I even have the right shim?I've always found syncing carbs to be more of a pain, because I never felt any tool I had was consistent enough.
>>27586981The real problem is getting to the valve cover on a super sport. On my Fireblade I have to unbolt the bloody radiator to get the cover off.
