There were numerous models available in the years following the Great Recession, and that continued for about a decade. It's sad to think of anything about the early 2010s as a Golden Age, but in that sense it truly was.
And then multiple automakers cut everything because they decided that every American is a lead brained geezer that loves paying $500 for gasoline each month.
At least the sedans are still close enough. I think I would finally snap if SUVs killed them off too.

The market changed.

And the Toyota Matrix was the best general choice for a simple hatchback for years. Then Toyota made the car less useful in the second gen and less fun to drive. It’s not really a bad car, it just became a generic hatchback. And the 2.4L engine that the S and XRS Trils used also were burning oil for the first 2 years of the second gen production.

It just couldn’t keep up with the market changing to SUV.

Toyota should have kept a bit more cargo space intact, and should have kept the separate rear glass hatch.

We were also likely going to get a supercharged AWD version of the Matrix but the recession killed all change of that so that’s also a shame. Would have been the GR Corolla years before the GR Corolla. And cooler. Sure the 2AZ gets a bad rep because of the older oil burning issues but you can make some impressive power from them. Def would have been fun on a supercharger

The 1995 liftback civic was the size of a 1985 accord

I'm still riding my Honda Fit until it dies, but yeah they're mostly all gone replaced with crossovers.

There are also barely any wagons left in the US market.

Reminder, the only non-SUV or Truck Ford currently sells is the Mustang.

>drive a Prius for Jewber (do not do "gig work" it's a scam)
>riders always get mad at me for not popping the trunk
>yell into my car "pop the trunk can't you see I have luggage?!"
>the trunk doesn't pop because it's a fake hatchback
>I have to get out and show them how to open a trunk

This design is stupid, makes no sense to not just have a regular squared off hatchback.

wait what? how does the hatch (or I guess trunk) work then?

The new accord is based on the RL platform, as is the CRV and the other things based on Accords. The civic actually went back to be the 90s Accord size.

New Accords and their platform family are MASSIVE anymore, and don't look like the civic aside from the dash and wheel. I bought one, and I love it. It's my favorite car since my 2016 Accord V6 Touring. I drove the new Accord, in fact, and had a 2019, it's so NOT my car. Massive and slow, as if the 2019 wasn't big enough.

Didn't it have the K25 and not the J35 in it or something? Why was it based on the base model Accord/Si/Type-R if it was the upgrade Accord/TL?

They haven't had oil dilution problems since the early days. That shit is fixed and only still happens while gunning it without the engine cold.

do you guys member the coupe? God damn that was one piece of sex. Shame that and the Civic coupe are gone now. Shame the Fit and an actual Civic hatchback are gone now too, at least in the states. Honda is fucking gay now.
