Why are boomers like this?
>>
>>27594877
Its a big money laundering game where boomers continue to suck each other off and romanticize cars that made 300hp to the wheels from a 7.4L as if they were the greatest vehicles in history. Its ironic cause you can find cars extremely similar in design and drivetrain options to a 69 or 70 chevelle ss, or whatever year camaro, firebird, gto, etc and pay like 10k instead and you'll feel and see barely any difference. Its just the same as contemporary art at this point. A lot of boomers have fantasized about owning them and a lotta them have the cash to throw around too.
>>
>>27594877
>Why are boomers like this?
$1500/mo UBI minimum for every boomer for merely existing. More if they worked a single day in their life.

Remember that when they tell you how you're a failure if you don't have what they have through your efforts.
>>
>>
>offer no worthwhile information
>"runs good"
>ask for $23000
>only provide five photos

these wheels are 5,000 alone
so 1st generation pontiac firebird body is easy 15,000

The funny thing is there is absolutely some retard out there who will see that rust bucket and fork over $45k
And by the sounds of it, that retard might even be you, anon! You should find the ad and respond to it!
>>

im not interested in gm but if this was mopar/dodge id go for it

note that this is 1st gen firebird, they cost a bit. its not beaten up 3rd gen or so. seller knows price and this car is probably customised to some rat style and not actual rust chassis/body
>>
now we are also seeing millenials/gen X do the same with 90s JDMs so i think it's just nostalgia and midlife crisis

I can't wait until boomers die and these rust buckets become worthless. Not even to buy either, they're not even worth that. Just reduce that value to zilch and get promptly junked

>>
So do boomers ever actually BUY these cars at these prices?
I constantly see them trying to sell shit for some ridiculous price, but I've never heard of a boomer actually BUYING one at these price.

In Australia atleast the 60/70's muscle car market is mostly cashed up 30/40 year old tradies dumping $100k+ on them, so they won't be dropping in price when the boomers die off. From what I've seen the biggest boomer bait are muh 195X Chevys
THIS ONE IS WORTH $200K BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY 1956 TO HAVE A RED PAINTJOB AND BLACK INTERIOR WITH WHITE PAINT ON THE RADIO DIALS AND A CHROME STRIP CUSTOM INSTALLED ON THE BOOT BY JIMMY MORT'S CHEVROLET DEALER THAT USE TO BE ON MAIN STREET WHERE THE MCDONALDS IS NOW 1/1 VERY RARE CAR
>>
>>27596033
>So do boomers ever actually BUY these cars at these prices?
Yeah, when they get older they get into the mindset of
>I've worked 200 hours a week since I was twelve and I deserve to enjoy MY money
Meanwhile reverse mortgage on their house, $1200 in their savings account, pension SS, and rental income subsidizing their lifestyle of burning money as fast as possible because they're realizing they're close to death. Leave some money or leave that family heirloom to the kids? Fuck that, they can pull their own bootstraps!

>quintessential boomer taking photos of their computer screen instead of walking out to their back yard to take a photo of the item they're selling.
>>
>>27596113
This has somehow become a hobby of mine. Look on CL for insane listings and recall the same listings (at $5 a piece) get reposted for months or years at a time. They'd rather pay craigslist $5 a month instead of taking $1000 less on their scrap rust
>>
>>27596116
Its not just cars too. They'll go buy random junk and convince themselves its worth thousands.

>fully restored over $4000!
>appraised at $1800
>I'm giving YOU a deal at $900!
>just needs battery and wash, but I don't have time to restore it!
>>
>>27596120
>no room left to drop (on price)
Is that because it has sunk into the earth and still overpriced?

You just know this was parked in 1992 when it stopped running, and he refuses to sell it for any less, regardless of its continuously deteriorating condition.
>>
>>27596127
Honorable mention with this posting, its been up for months and originally started at $15k. I think its some sort of restoration shop or speed shop helping to sell these types of cars. They have a couple other listings of seemingly reasonable prices. I was always under the impression '57 chevy bel-airs were nearly unobtainium $100k show-cars. But $13k almost seems reasonable for that old classic.

Those are the two-door hardtops like pic related. They don't have the B-pillar that the sedan in the ad has, plus that one is a four door which is sales poison to a boomer as no one cool wanted a four door up through the Eighties. Four doors were only slightly less socially stigmatized than station wagons back then.

They arent on Craigslist or marketplace and there are 15-20 dogs, 4 of them are aggressive, and some like to run in front of your car, pretty much going to run over a dog of you go check them out, but these cars are all for sale and there are no better pics you can buy them from a dirty autistic guy. 0-60 in 6seconds which is comparable to orginal V8 these Firebirds had for fraction of V8 engine costs.
>1967 Firebird accelerates 0-60mph (96.6 kph) in 6.20 seconds
>Chevrolet Malibu 2.0L Turbo specs Performance ; 0 - 60 mph, 6.2 s
>>
>>27597431
>>27597437

But hes selling it. All of the other mods are to improve performance - it looks like it can corner And stop better than a boat, so why shouldn't it have moar power?

Also turbo 2L engines burn as much gas as a v8. I had a brand new unmodified wrx and got like 17 - 24 MPG on premium gas. There are a bunch of v8 crate engines you could drop in there and get better MPG, performance, sound and feel
>>
>>27597458

You can buy a brand new small block plug-n-play crate engine from GM for a few grand. You could pull a Vortec 5.3 or 6.2 (essentially an iron block LS) our of a junked fullsize van/pickup for a few hundred bucks.
>>
>>27597458
AWD is shit for mpg, turbo Camaros and Mustangs can do 30+ highway.
>>
>>27597458
Balance. That thing weighs less than any V8 and has more than enough power to move 3100lbs. Think of it as a modernized Firebird Sprint.
>>
>>27598141
>less weight
Probably about the same as if not a bit more than an LS3
>>
>>27598137
Did you actually check those results? Cause my WRX lied about its mpg on the trip computer all the time telling me I was gett 30+ mpg. But then I pull into the gas station after 300 miles and put in 15 gallons to fill it. All cars like to overestimate mpg, but some more than others.

Also, this LTG probably came from an ATS. It's obviously not the fwd version since the mounts are different.

Dude. I forget what podcast it was, but they were commenting on how vehicle prices are factually insane in Texas. 200k mile trucks with $25,000 price tags. Little shitboxes for $10k. And classics actually selling for like 20% more than every state surrounding TX. They couldn't figure it out and I just don't get it either. Classic truck in Texas is $35k. Same classic truck in just about any other state including CA is like $25k. It makes no fucking sense.

Am I the only one that gets irrationally angry at boomers listing vehicles for $100 like that then put the real price in the description below?

I somewhat understand when they list a $50,000 vehicle for "$50" in the listing title, because boomers think its cute or whatever, AND it still makes sense. But the "$1" listings of send offers, "$123,456" or "$1000, err, I mean $1000 down payment to reserve it" listings makes me want to annoy them for making a stupid posting.

Even if they put $50 for $50k it pisses me off. The price listed should be the price of the vehicle. I should be able to have a police man join me to aquire the well kept antique Ferrari for $400 and arrest the owner for false advertising if he refuses.

What in the shit is going on with these 90's Ford pickups? There was one in DFW listed as an ultra rare holy grail of Ford duallys in pristine condition, manual, and the dude has a similar posting of NO LOWBALL OFFERS starting the listing at like $65,000. Then for like 8 months kept relisting it and last I saw was down around $48,000. Who in their right mind is paying new truck money for a 30 year old pickup in admittedly good condition?

And what drugs do you smoke to look at your 30+ year old diesel pickup and think

I think it was Rob Pitts that talked about how people remember cool cars from their childhood and 30-40 years later when they have a high enough income are paying nearly anything just to remember that time they had in a shitbox. Model As, T's, 30's hudsons and cadillacs were going for big money like 30 years ago. Now you almost cannot sell them running and driving for more than $10k Why? Because the people who grew up with those cars are dead. They're "parade vehicles" for boomers now.

Shift the decades forward, 60s and 70s muscle cars were selling for 6-figures easily because boomers grew up with them and have money to spend as they realize they're nearing death. What Gen X, millenial, or Gen Z would spend $80,000 on an old corvette, cobra, or chevelle? $200k for a numbers matching Hemi Cuda? They're not sought after by people under 30 because they've never fucking seen them.

OBS trucks, 80s shitboxes, and 90s sports cars are spiking in price currently. Gen X grew up with those and might have good memories as kids with them. Shift the same pattern forward. Why are supras, skylines, and other 90s cars going for 6-figures? Because Gen X and millenials grew up with those cars plus the immortalization of some in movies.

Just wait 20-30 years, and that window for cars will shift again, who knows if ICE will be legal to own/drive, but that means 00's to '10's cars will go up in price too; $15,000 150,000 mile charges, mustangs, and jeeps will retain their value for 20-30 years.

Look at the birth years for each generation, then add 30 years to see what cars will be spiking in price. then for 20 years those cars will be listed for insane prices followed by a slow decline because after paying $100,000 for a 2018 Mustang GT350r I'll be damned if I let it go for any less than $80k. (me 30 years from now)

thats not even remotely true. Model Ts arent worth anything because they built 100 million of them. Any other car from that era is worth 6 or 7 figures. Classic muscle cars are all 6 figures and going up. Nothing desirable ever gets cheaper

>Model Ts arent worth anything because they built 100 million of them.
Oh that explains why I see them fucking everywhere. not. They're selling for about $10-15k because they're a nightmare to operate, can barely get up to residential road speeds, and have no practical purpose other than a gee-whiz antique.

>Any other car from that era is worth 6 or 7 figures.
Give a single example of a vehicle that competed with a model A or Model T that people are paying 6 or 7 figures for. Inb4 you give Otto von Diesel's personal experimental car

>>
>>27601663
I think the difference though is that the internet has resulted in a cultural standstill in a lot of ways. The way that things stop becoming cool to newer generations is via a lack of exposure to those things to people who are young and impressionable and might still find them cool. People are still getting exposed to classic muscle cars, which means that there is still going to be a contingent of people who really like them and think that they're cool. You're actually seeing a lot of millennials and even older zoomers pick those cars up, and the ones that don't have enough money for them are buying late-70's personal cars and luxobarges.
>>
>>27601786
Also there's the fact that new cars oose with disappointment and annoyances, and all of the truely horrible shitboxes disappear in 15 years, so now classic cars are mostly decent.

For example I bet none of you have heard of the automatic 1985 Colt premier unless you're a genX/ boomer who hasnt had a single thought of that car in 20+ years

I get what you are saying, but I think there is something to be said about EPA/regulations that forced the automotive industry to forever build things differently. People want a light truck like the 90s F-150 or Ranger, but Ford can't (or won't) produce those anymore. I think there is a level of utilitarianism you are dismissing for that decade.

I'm not a boomer, and I appreciate the rat rod look, especially with a nice set of wheels. also there are small things most people don't know like how they only made x number of these that year, or how back in the day to run a car in NASCAR you had to produce atleast 500 of the car, alot of the time that's all they made so ofcourse the value skyrockets. not saying this car has any of that, all these classic car TV shows have made people think that any old car is worth a fortune. some people are just stupid.

You see this with guns sometimes, like this rare pistol that now looks like it spent a month inside a cow's asshole. A never-fired safe queen with hundreds and hundreds of dollars of 'reputable' modification thrown into it, with bidding that started at $5k. Except it's slowly crept down to $3,900 over the past few months because nobody's buying.
They fail to realize that 'custom' means 'tailored to the specific tastes of the one who ordered it' and see it as an investment instead. For it to resell at such a price, the person buying it would have to have 95% of the same interests as the one that ordered it new, or otherwise spend EVEN MORE money afterwards to re-customize it to their tastes and that sure ain't gonna happen.

I have a feeling thats the thought process boomers have: They did all the research, they paid some specialist to customize their gun/truck/car/boat/wife/house so they want 150% of their money put into it because they spent a lot of time and just absolutely love the gun and with inflation it surely must be worth more than I paid to have it look like this and be in this unused condition. 70s motorcycle? I paid $400 for it, plus 4 hours round trip drive time and I have it on the trailer still so my asking price is $1000. I got it, you want it, price is firm! This ancient truck I bought 50 years ago that I never had any use for and parked it in a barn for 5 decades? Well I paid $5000 for it back then, so I demand $55,000 today, its a survivor with patina!

Then they'll proceed to relist it for retarded prices, express just how upset they are they keep getting lowball offers, and you just don't know what they've got! Its a weird mindset; every piece of trash they've got is somehow worth more than gold, and anything they don't have isn't worth pissing on if it were on fire.

>$1, heres 1 shitty thumbnail, fuck you research it and pay me.
>>

>>
>>27595064

>>
>>27601663
Hopefully the prices on 90s Jap "sports cars" keep going up and everyone keeps being terrified of anything European; 987 Porsche Boxsters are a steal right now at low mileage and unlike MR2s they actually have enough trunk space to be useful.
>>
>>27612057
>and everyone keeps being terrified of anything European
Theres a reason Americans don't want old euro cars. Zero parts availability, nobody knows what the fuck it is, nobody grew up with one, turns out German engineers were just as autistic 30 years ago with their design choices (they're all shit) and they're built for tiny european men and tiny euro towns. They're impractical and stupid cars in general. The jap stuff is at least engineered well, parts are easy to come by still, and they had smart design choices in general, not "look what I can do!" oddball shit.
>>
>>27612114
Yes, please keep thinking that, allow me to pick up a Porsche Boxster at $25,000 with 30k miles where the most that will need to be done to it is a permanent aftermarket IMS bearing fix at 70k.

I'm sure that Subaru SVX with 300k miles on it and ripped seats is definitely worth $35,000.
>>
>>27612122
You actually want to pay $25k for a cockster? This is the power of european car autism isn't it? Paying over double what the car is worth knowing an engine-out service is coming very soon and the part must be ordered from EU where you get to pay more on taxes and shipping than the part is worth?
>>
>>27612143
>paying over double what the car is worth

>engine-out service
It's $2,400 dollars for a service that will come up in two years at the earliest for me, and can be fixed permanently, and I'm looking at a car that's already 5 figures, so I'm not poor enough to freak out about routine stuff.

not surprisingly they do this shit for real estate too. Listing $500k+ properties with a fucking frosty filter and don't pick up any of their shit in their house beforehand

Depends on specific year, RPO package etc. You don't need that car anyway so why care? Buy something that suits young clueless faggots instead.

>Why are boomers like this?

What is it you want that you specifically cannot afford?
Other people know how to buy cars. You apparently do not, and that is a choice.

Become hardcore hobbyist mechanic, and perhaps work on the side for a small shop. Tie into the pro-world where access is vastly better than for clueless spectators. Then your problem will be room to store what you specialize in, but that's why you planned your life accordingly. Barriers to entry are surmountable but casuals get casual results.

Anyone have the artifact'd ad with the destroyed Viper "LOWBALL ME NIGGER I'LL KILL YOUR FAMILY" pic?

They angry because their time has run out. They know they could have pushed for better economy, technological advances, reach life extension if they weren't so greedy but they just miss out on all these things. They would throw babies in fire just to extended theiroves for 5 more years.

Eating leadpaint turned them all greedy impulsive psychos. Laugh at the on their way out and piss on their graves.

Cultural artifact from the oil boom, cattle dealing and land speculating. You're expected to drive a hard bargain, else ur a faggit. The whole state built its wealth fucking over non-Texans.

when they die off a bunch of industries will die with them. 90% of boat builders and RV makers will die off. prolly 3 wheel "trikes" and a good chunk of side by side sales too
>>
>>27617263
>90% of boat builders and RV makers will die off
Lmao. My dude, you're going to become the boomer you hate. Boomer die-off is going to result in one of the biggest wealth transfers in history and all the mad shit talked by Gen Xers and Millennials will become hilariously ironic. Zoomers are fucked tho.
>>
>>27617266
there wont be any wealth left to transfer if they blew it all on RVs covered in tacky margitaville lights tho lol
>>
>>27617266
Talk in your name I will inherit nothing and that's 100% sure. :(
At this point I will be in poverty for the rest of my life while my millenials friends become rich in their 40s and 50s.

To sick as an elderly boomer, still have payments left on this 2010. Better sell it because I just cannot ride anymore. Take it out of the garage garbage pile and wash it? Nah fuck that, I'll just look up what some internet site says a pristine one is worth and attach those screenshots.

Rat rods are a Gen X thing. They started as a backlash against the boomer show rod Boyd Coddington/Chip Foose look that dominated in the 90s and early 00s. Gen Xers couldn't afford to build a six figure street rod so they'd just slap something together with parts out of a junkyard and call it a day. Then when Xers finally came into money as a generation they turned rat rods into their own six figure custom scene.

Custom choppers like that were a big fad in the early 00s.
>>
>don't respond to emails
>don't respond to texts
Why people are like this? It is much more convenient and avoids you dropping what you are doing to talk to some random schmuck that is not serious about ir
>>
>>27617928
Boomers don't like any technology that was introduced after 1985. A lot of them are flaky about mobile phones in general. I bought my boomer mother a mobile after landline service in her area got discontinued and she absolutely hates it. I've tried to teach her how it works and she refuses to listen or learn anything. I've had to stop her multiple times from throwing it in the trash because she couldn't figure out how to make a phone call (I've walked her through how to do it at least four times, and she never remembers how).
>>
>>27617944
So does your mother just effectively not have a phone? Its rare you come across a boomer that lives like a caveman still. Most of them seemed to have gravitated to an iphone and show it off like a badge of pride they've figured out how to take a photo and send it to their kids.

>>27617928
What'll really bake your beans is realizing the juxtaposition of millenials and zoomers who will refuse phone calls, ignore texts until its convenient for them, and flat out will not look at an email. Actual pain in the ass when dealing with people on craigslist; you're either going to get someone who will reply back to your email with "text me" or some boomer upset he has to text back on his phone demanding a call or just asking you to drive 3 hours to come look at the car/bike/machine. Like no, I don't have 6 hours to throw away to look at a $400 bike you've taken 2 blurry photos of saying its in excellent condition when I can see rust and other damage on it.
>>
>>27617928
It happens 80% of time with used car sellers. I guess it's part not wanting anything in written form to avoid responsibility and laziness. Obviously there are potential hagglers and non serious buyers but I bet most of the time they holding a hot potato and don't want any written trail to be left behind.
