220 km/h in a van. That 1.6L engine did a good job keeping that van at that speed despite 800kg of cargo and occupants. It didn't do it quickly but patience is rewarded. It will get there eventually.

It made me a fan of small turbo engines. They may not have the longevity of a gigantic engine that idles its whole life, but it sure can perform when it can.

112MPH in a '92 integra, that's about as fast as it would go. Went over over a drainage ditch bridge and got enough air to leave scrapes. Didn't go that fast again in it.

Maybe downhill.

That's not the top spec 1.6, but 20 more HP is not going to be good for 42 more KPH.

I've done 158MPH in the Grand Prix. The Coupe hits redline at 152 and gets there pretty quick.

109 because that's when the governor kicked in and wouldn't let me go faster. 95 bonneville

195 in a rental 3 series on the autobahn, had a sticker saying do not exceed 200 and I was worried it had a GPS in it

128 mph in an E46 wagon. I've got a Corvette now and I'm too worried about crashing it to go fast. I've slowed down in life.

290kph/180mph indicated in an old celica. It was still climbing but I got worried about the mid-range 15" rubber and backed off. I cruised at about 250kph/155mph for a couple of hours and the diff has been noisy ever since.

ST205? That looks to be the only one with enough HP to come close.
I'd say your speedo is 10% optimistic. 162 is in line with what the interwebz says.
There's a huge difference between 160 and 180. 160 can be hit with mid 200HP depending on the size/aero of the car. (Celica is smol so I can see 240HP breaking 160). But 180 usually needs well over 300HP.
>>
>>27632009
nah engine swapped ma61.
>>
>>27632016
Top model for that is only 178HP.
Your speedo may have been off by more like 15%.
>>
>>27632043
anon have you been drinking?
>>
>>27632009
At normal car sizes weight between 2400 and 3500 pounds has nearly no effect on attainable speed. Its a handful of horsepower difference which translates to 1 or 2mph at high speeds.
160mph isnt realistic from 250hp without a cD 0.3 or lower, and that's 250 at the wheels not engine rating.

>>27632044
In his defense nobody thinks of early 80s supras when someone says celica.
>>
>>27631869
>Maybe downhill.
It required patience, that's for sure. I wish to see the day when tiny engines turn into high output timebombs that make lol, lmao even of high displacement engines.

Frontal area matters. A Celica is only 69 inches wide.
I have no doubt that my Z3 Coupe could hit 160 with only 228HP if it had a little taller gearing. It has no problem at all redlining in 5th at a bit over 150.
328i's will hit 150 with 190HP.
>>
>>27632121
>frontal area
Oh right. My car is "only" 3 inches wider and taller than an e36 but i would need to max tune the stock engine for 310hp and do some aero reduction to get close to 160.

Reported stats for an e36 give 21.1sqft cd of .32 and a weight with driver of 3400lbs which comes out to 170HP to reach 150mph, which is unlikely because drivetrain losses are always more than 10% (190 x 0.9 = 171).
So no a >stock< e36 328 cant hit 150, my calcs give 147 as a best case possible which agrees with the official specs.
>z3 coupe
Let me do that one too:

22.2sqft 0.37cd, 3150lbs, take 15% drivetrain losses,
I get 195 wheel hp needed for 148mph which agrees with stock dyno results and 15% drivetrain losses. So no your z3 coupe 3.0 isnt brealing 150, stock 228hp.
>>
>>27632139
5th in a Z3 is 1:1
>>
152mph in a caprice ppv. Only started hearing wind noise past 120. Every other car I drove made it past 85
>>
>>27632200
m8 the math and public dynos of a stock z3 show it cant reach 150 without being on a long downhill with wind at its back.

about 110 in my rickety datsun that I drove while in college. there was a section of freeway that sloped down for a good quarter mile, always used it to build up speed and fly past all the merging downtown traffic.

on my bike (picrel) I got up to about 115 on a country backroad and got scared so I backed it off. it had plenty more though, I was only in like 4th gear iirc. that bike is fucking scary and I love it so much.

158 mph in a 92 sc400
Took a friend to check out a mint z32 Lumina with the doch v6. As soon as the kid started it the engine started knocking. Did a 360 and walked away. About 5 mins later he came flying past going maybe 100mph. Deciding not to be stood up I floored it and by the time I caught up and passed him the speedo was right at the 160mph mark. I slow down and he tries to fly by again and blew the engine right after he went by .
Here's the best part the car wasn't his it was a friends he was helping sale. I found that out when he called me saying I owned him for the show ,I laughed and hang up the fun.
I miss that lexus ,the ride was incredible. felt like doing normal highway speeds the whole time

How old was that MX-5?

Basically any modern MX-5 can hit ~130-140mph (~210-225kph)

I once hit 130 on a 1995 Yamaha Seca II that had no business going that fast.
Then the rear end started to shimmy. I eased slowly off the throttle and (thankfully) it settled down.
Honestly I don't know how I made it out of that without wrecking.

I was 19 and dumb.

My E63 will eventually be able to reach 200mph, but I've only briefly done about 124mph in it. Was just to test 100-200kmh. But on the autobahn several years ago, I had my old saab 9-5 a bit over 150mph. It had more to give, but I bitched out because of massive rain puddles. Probably around 280hp in that thing.
