ITT: Lightning in a bottle aut/o/sPost those cars that were too good for this world.
>>27635124Damn. That's an ugly SS.
>>27635124GM's ditching EVs so hopefully they'll bring back the Volt (and maybe even make a Volt crossover)
>>27635142>Volt crossoverOverVolt?
>>27635124Based 2500mpg car enjoyer
>>27635124gen 1 volt is truly up there in terms of godly carshow did they do it bros, its not even a traditional hybrid. a prius is 95% engine, this is 95% electric. theres nothing like it out there. it mogs on all hybrids
>>27635124Your about ten years too late anon
>>27635657He cute
>>27635124
>>27635657The GM Volt is the son of the EV1, and they are already becoming collectors items.Drive for free, what a great manufacturer
>>27635124Mazda MX-5 coupe. Too good for the world, to the point where Mazda cut its production short due to a factory fire.
>>27635788No. Where does this misconception keep coming from? The factory fire was during 2005 model production in December 2004 and cut Mazdaspeed Miata production short. All 179 NB Coupes were 2003 and 2004 models. They were already done making them before the fire damaged the factory.
>>27635845Thanks for the info anon, I didn't know. I wish they still made the coupes, or at least bring back the PRHT for the NE.
>>27635223>>27635124What was so good about it? Seems ugly, slow, and gay.
>>27636105It perfectly straddles the line between electric and gas that even brand new PHEVs struggle to do. If there was a Swiss army knife of PHEV powertrains, this would be it.
Do you think it's better than the new Prius Prime, or just impressive for its time?
>>27636189Meant for>>27636162
>>27635124Prius is better and less complex. This whole EV fad is a solved problem.
>>27636105It used the gasoline engine essentially as a generator for the electric drivetrain. Meaning it could run the engine at the most efficient rpm range for power generation.Fun fact: it’s exactly how diesel electric subs operate.>gm: let’s scrap this highly efficient and unique system for yet another pride month adjacent pure EV shitbox with 100 miles of range.
>>27636478Interesting, and they really don't have other cars with this configuration? I would buy that too
>>27636685I think Cadillac had an upmarket version; but it was only a gm thing.
>>276351242002-2006 Honda InsightHybrid with a Manual Transmission
>>27637013I always kinda liked the ELR
>>27636478>>27636685It can run either series (like a train) or parallel (like a Prius) depending on various factors. It's more thermally efficient for the engine to mechanically power the wheels than to generate electricity.
>>27637026I like how these look. I think futurism is cool.
>>27636295The standard Prius is just as complex as the Volt but way less efficient and more expensive to drive and maintain. It also uses a less technologically advanced battery with a lower cycle life.
>>27636189The new Prius Prime is better overall than the first generation Volt. The Volt is a little faster in EV mode than the Prime, but the Prime is faster in hybrid mode and gets better hybrid MPG. The Prime's biggest problem is it's a new car with a new car price tag that has comparable specs to an old car costing $5-15k. For the cost of a Prime with some options, you could have a Tesla Model 3.
>>27637029The ELR is my attainable dream car. It's so good looking.
>>27635124We didn't deserve the volt :(They were too good for us
>>27636478Every other PHEV for sale now has a traditional drivetrain. The volt and i3 REX are the only 2 that were series hybrids.
>>27637203And you can replace the Prius battery for pennies compared to doing a volt battery replacement. That's what makes the prius better. Not a surprise that the volt was discontinued.
>>27637233An uglier XTS/ATS Coupe?
>>27638104A more expensive and ugly Chebby Bolt
>>27635684If *any* of the volts are to become """""collectors""""" items, it's gonna be the Cadillac version.>Would actually love to have one for DD t b h f a m a l a m
>>27638097The Volt's battery is designed to last the life of the vehicle and the vast majority of Volts are still on the original batteries.
>>>>27638107>BoltIt's based on the Volt.
>>27638097Unlike the Prius, the GM Volt's battery lasts forever
>>27638322>>27638370>life of the vehicle: 5 years
>>27635898>NEngmi. Pun intended
>>27638457Mine is coming up on 12 years old.
>>27635657>basically running off 1990s-style rechargable AA batteries>had to be incredibly aerodynamic to get even 150 miles of range out of the battery>if it had a modern EV battery it'd easily have a 500+ mile range because of those aerodynamicsI know why they took them all back, so they wouldn't have to keep a production line making parts specifically for them and them alone. But I wish that some of them had survived to receive such an upgrade. It's not fair bros. It was legitimately 20 years ahead of its time and it died because of it.
>>27637029>>27637233>>27638162heard rumors about someone successfully flashing the ELR tune on a volt to get the exact same performance>>27638457incorrect. mine is now almost 10 years old and it still functions normally. i lost like 1.5KWh out of the normal max usage due to battery degradation.
>>27638461They actually already made the NE (and NF) with the Fiat 124 Spider and its Abarth version. Next Miata is likely to be NG.
>>27635788ugly slow gay
this shouldve made the ute popular in america, its everything the average american boomer wants and needs>decent size bed>seats four comfortably>auto or manual>bed passthrough and roof rack for hauling long shit>decent gas mileage>awd so women wont panic in snow/rain
>>27641401Lemme guess- its got the same shitty Gamma engine that they threw in the Kia Forte. I'll ride a bicycle before I'll drive anything with a Hyundai engine. But yeah, Boomers should have gone nuts for those. Not enough room for their doggy, though.
>>27636162the problem with modern PHEVs is that the gas engine is a whole ass separate powertrain. what I find genius about the Volt is that the electric motor is what drives the car 99% of the time (the range extender gets hooked up to the powertrain above 75mph, neat engineering) and the gas part is there to give it a bunch of range. you get all the benefits of electric driving and great fuel economy, even when you're on gas.also, they kick on the gas engine occasionally to burn off fuel so it doesn't go bad even when you haven't used it in months, which I think is smart. shockingly well-engineered, unfortunately it's a chevy so it looks like a cheap piece of shit.
>>27641694Tbh, the Volt does have a whole ass separate powertrain minus the automatic transmission and dedicated starter motor. Transmissions are common points of failure in older vehicles, so this is a big benefit, but apart from that it's a standard GM 4-cylinder used in economy cars and it still has all the emissions related parts. It's built on an ICE car platform, so fitting an engine in was probably the easiest part of designing the Volt.Despite this, they did a really good job of making it work and feel like an EV first, with the engine's behavior tuned to be unobtrusive (thanks to the series hybrid operation) and only running when it absolutely needs to be run, with it commonly shutting off when coasting to a stop or cruising at city speeds. EV mode or hybrid mode, the electric motor is always the primary propulsion source.
>>27635124>ugly>slow>gayAlso, lol @ takes premium fuel.
>>27637026weren't they like 1600lbs as well?
>>27642002The premium fuel isn't a problem because fuel is so rarely burned anyway. If a 9 gallon tank lasts me two to three months, I'm not dying to save a few dollars per fill-up.
>>27640134I was interested in it, but the person who did it is really weird about it. You have to join their Facebook group to even get any details on how to do it. It seems strange.
>>27635124>mogs your volt with superior japanese build quality
>>27644599>Trunk instead of hatch>Allegedly noisy engine (haven't confirmed this myself)>Rear got hit real bad with an ugly stickBut yes, apart from those things it is a fine automobile and will likely be my next purchase once it's time to retire the Volt.
>>27635131Personally, I think the Volt looks cooler than the SS. It has some character without being overdone like the fourth gen Prius. The SS is painfully bland. If we're going to talk about good looking GM cars, the early fifth gen Camaro is sex on wheels. It's one of my favorite along with the ELR and C6 Corvette.
>>27642330I forgot to mention that you have to message him and ask to be invited to it. Lol, what the fuck.
>>27635477>>27641125>What if we just kept producing this car from the 1970s and changed the appearance to trick people into thinking it was new:^)>>27635657I'm salty that I was too young to appreciate this car while it was new.>>27635788Seeing a Miata with a solid roof looks so uncanny.
>>27641539Anon...thats a Subaru Baja. It had the standard Subaru flat 4 with an optional turbo that all the other models did.
>>27637233Aren't the doors like 12 feet long?
>>27644718Just coupe things
>>27635124Silly fisher price interior. The 2nd gen is tiny and cramped.
>>27637264Hammerhead Eagle iThrust wins again
>>27635124holy shit it's a Chevy volt and it's not on fire. where did you find this op?
>>27636105some of them didn't catch fire apparently
>>27644746Do I remember seeing this exact photo in a Guiness world records book? Or is this some mandela effect shit. Why the fuck would that thing be in that book.
>>27644751>>27644755You clearly don't know what you're talking about.
>>27637264>Every other PHEV for sale now has a traditional drivetrain. What's a "traditional drivetrain"?
>>27644715>>27641539It's posts like this that bother me about /o/, people making highly opinionated posts while also getting the most basic of details wrong, like not being able to see a Subaru badge on a car
>>27636478Oh just like the bolt EUV?
>>27644691>Trunk instead of hatchTrue but much larger and more comfortable for hauling people than the volt. Seats do fold down 60/40>Noisy engineI own one and can confirm that the engine can get noisy on the highway when the battery is dead. You can force the car to recharge itself back up to 60% though>Rear is uglyHonestly looks much worse in pictures than it does in person but yeah the car falls apart towards the rear in terms of looks.I'd recommend it anon, be sure to look into the used ev tax credit
>>27644883https://www.4injured.com/blog/after-new-battery-fire-gm-recalls-every-chevy-volt-vehicle-ever-made/
>>27635788I saw one at Mazdaspeed's booth at some car show or other years ago. Such a shame that Mazda has never done real Miata coupes other than those few, I hoped the RF was finally the solution but my friend has one and I can't fit comfortably in it.
>>27645020>people making highly opinionated posts while also getting the most basic of details wrong,This is like 99% of EV threads.
>>27645974In other words, EV>>>/n/iggers are at it again
I HATE GM
>>27645270That article is mistitled.
>>27644711>changed the appearance to trick people into thinking it was newThey made it worse, the older ones didn't obviously look like rebadged Crown Vics.
>>2764140142 inches for a bed isn't all that useful, like my bicycle would probably barely fit diagonally in it and with the bed down. should've also been an option to remove the rear window along with that bed door too. Still like the design though, I don't get why Subaru hasn't made a new Baja/BRAT using the Ascent platform and turning it into some sort Ridgeline copy, that car would sell like hotcakes in the states.
>>27636685the California only Mazda CUV nominally has this feature
>>27636685It's what they call a range extender EV/hybrid.Fisker Karma and BMW i3 had the same configuration.
>>27635657>>27637026If Teslas try to eek out every bit of range (like with aero hubcaps) why don't they have wheel covers like these two?
>>2764817480's Town Cars look like upbadged Grand Marquis. The one you posted doesn't share a single panel with the CV GM.
>>27648260I'm talking about the move from the one I posted to this >>27635477
>>27648263Well >>27635477 also doesn't share a single body panel with the CV GM either. The dash is different too. Seems like you're confused.
