Can’t wait to see these on the scrapyard when the second owner gets hit with a $20K battery replacement bill and has to total the car. Meanwhile Civics will keep running with just fluid changes.
>>
>>27635640
Battery prices are expected to hit $40 a kWh next year. A 75kWh battery pack with packaging and labor will cost less than $5000, and that's not even taking into account selling your old pack.
The oldest Model 3s aren't going to actually need replacement packs until sometime after 2035.
>>
>>27635640
yeah but then you'd be driving a civic

According to who? drivegreen.cuck blog? Some best case scenario tested in a lab?
A lot of Model S are already needing battery replacements.

in your hypothetical cope math you neglected to mention the price of gas
150,000 miles / 27 real world mpg = 5,555.6 gallons * $5 per gallon (assuming it wont skyrocket like it always does) = $27,777.8 in fuel alone
so hypotheticaly a ev fag might need to replace a new battery yet an ice fag is gauranteed to spend much more in gas and youre driving a dogshit slow civic
>>
>>27635679
You're forgetting real cars are much cheaper than oversized battery RC toys
>>
>>27635679
Why bring up the cost of gas, as if energy to charge the Tesla was free? Now calculate the cost of electricity to charge a Tesla for 150k miles in a cucked state where gallon of gas is over $5.

a civic is more expensive than a model 3 lmao
>>
>>27635700
Not to mention parts for a Tesla and labor are more expensive. Teslaniggers act like their Tesla is maintenance free while their dog shit suspension setup will need constant part replacements that a lightweight Civic won’t need for a lifetime.
>>
>>27635700
I paid 6k for panels and chinese batteries and both my home and car are set
>>
>>27635703
Model 3 is 30-something K, the under 30 figure factors in "fuel savings over 5 years" as if electricity were free
>>
>>27635660
>A lot of Model S are already needing battery replacements.
The older Model S uses a chemistry designed for laptops that was good for less than 1000 cycles in automotive use. The older NMC Model 3 uses an upgraded automotive-grade chemistry good for around 1500 cycles before secondary uses.
Pessimistically the 56kWh Model 3s should have batteries good for around 250k miles, or around 15 to 20 years of normal use.

This is near a worst-case on the smallest capacity car they sold. The higher capacity cars will last longer, as will the new LFP base version.
Also keep in mind there are maybe a few hundred thousand Model S and X that will need battery replacements, Model 3 and Y sold in the millions so more economy of scale for battery pack suppliers.
>>
>>27635711
I've seen Dealers trying to sell a Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic for over $55k.
Model 3 Performance costs less.

Theoretically. In theory also computer SSDs (storage drives) should last 100TB+ of data written, as the NAND cells can last a shit ton of writes/reads. This would give them a life expectancy of ~50 years for a casual user and even 10+ years for a power user.
In reality we haven’t really seen them last that long, as the cells degrade quicker than expected, or failures in other components make the good cells inaccessible.
Same thing applies to batteries. It doesn’t matter if in theory the battery cells can last for thousands and thousands of cycles if a failure in other component will make the whole battery pack shit itself and become unusable.
>>
>>27635653
Rather that than a Tesla, disagree you're a faggot
>>
>>27635761
Except the situation for thermally managed battery packs using automotive-grade chemistry is the opposite. They are lasting longer than originally expected. There have also been some improvements to battery management and battery pack health that could push the estimates out further.

So the packs that left the factory expected to last 1500 cycles could see more like 1700 or more.
But odds are by the mid 2030s people who own classic EVs will want to do a battery swap simply for the better batteries that have become available.
>>
>>27635623
They're now selling for under 15k€ here because nobody wants them. Who would risk needing a several dozen grand battery repair over a used car? Uses ICE cars go for much less and aren't obviated like phones in few years.
>>
>>27635653
Nothing wrong with that. They're Small efficient cars that are well made and don't fall apart right outside the factory door, unlike Tesla's
>>
>>27635761
My personal experience I've had multiple SSD's fail in the last 5 years but only ever had one HDD fail in 20, and the HDD I didn't have near as much trouble pulling data off of it before tossing it.

SDD's are definately faster but it feels like you're taking way more of a chance with them.

Please tell me it's just for convenience and you actually have tested backups for when you really can't recover data
>>

seeing more than 2 teslas a week is an indication that you live somewhere that's fucking gay.
>>
>>27636337
I've got important data like photos, music, and other documents backed up on a central drive and a PC that's less commonly used.

I was mainly pulling game save data off the HDD that failed around 2001 and I was still in college, since this was before digital photos, and the size of digital music libraries being anything more that a gig.
>>
>>27635640
I can't wait until these hit the scrap yards because I want to pull the drive units to swap into cars that don't suck cock.
EV Crown Vic would be sick.

Internet connectivity is gay and unnecessary. There's quite a few good, offline motor control systems to choose from for Tesla swaps rn, and the aftermarket will only grow as time goes on.

Holy cope. When will you EVirgins realize that your silly toy cars are just worse than even the shittiest ICE vehicles? Gone are the days for EVirgins where they can simply just fill up their car with gasoline in the morning and get themselves to work instead of waiting 2 hours for a charge. Gone are the days for EVirgins where they can brag about being the fastest accelerating car on the road, they must accept the fact that a 20 year old engine platform beat their glorified power wheels toy. Gone are the days for EVirgins having a fun ride, the thrill of their little toy has worn off, and all that remains is a quiet hum constantly reminding them that they should have gotten something that could last. Not even a physical button could quell their woes for a regular car, as daddy Elon wants everything accessible on an ipad stuck to their dashboard. Face it, EVs are just rotting trash that ICEs will have to scoop up and throw into a car crusher.

But the Model 3 is only slightly bigger than a Civic. Also a RAV4 will last forever with no major repairs unlike your piece of shit Tesla.

Getting cheap tesla motors from the junkyard gives me a stiffy. 4-motor 800hp/1000ft*lb Honda Civic, anyone?
>>
>>27636992
Motors don't make power, the battery pack does. All that power and torque is irrelevant and you need a 2000lb battery pack to fuel it.
