22r is garbage, mine had cracked head between every valve and burned more oil than gas with 180k on the odo
made under 100hp and got 15mpg
not to mention timing chain issues, the fact the timing chain guides fail and eat int the coolant passage grenading your engine
it has no redeeming aspects, you can't even tune it up for power well

Bruce Meyers had this famous quote about "I made the top of the fenders flat so you had a place to set your beer".
It was weird to hear him say it in person because he was pretty fucking old when I first met him.
He told me another tale of the original Manx tub when he built it.

He was finishing up the design and the only thing left was the inner fenderwell on the rear bench seat, he hadn't quite figured out how to shape it.
His buddy stopped by in a "57 F100.
While they were sitting in the garage Bruce was staring at the truck and had a flash of insight.
So he said to his buddy "here's 20 bucks, take my car to the store and grab some more beer".
As soon as his friend left he grabbed the petroleum jelly, slathered it onto the corners of the hood and laid some fiberglass to make molds and those became the shape of the inner fenderwells.

Bruce Meyers and Lynn Chenowth were friends from the early days of dune buggies. Lynn was one of the first to focus on tube frame sandrails and offer production models to the public. After a devastating lawsuit that involved a crash with one of his sandrails he sold Chenowth Racing, which struggled for some time before they secured a military contract- they're doing quite well today.
His son (my old boss) Rory Chenowth went on to produce SV16's (Suspension Vehicle, 16" of travel) as well as the single-seater Mickey Thompson stadium racers.

Meyers never stopped selling the Manx but many copycats had taken away his market share. He wanted to update the Manx to make it more appealing. So he brought in one of his cars and asked us to build a basic but functioning roll bar
The shop supervisor was 6'4" so we used him as a guinea pig for headroom.

Rory developed a brain tumor. I used to tell him it was an alien implant.
He quit producing SV16's to focus on his health. Eventually he sold all the tooling, fixtures and remaining components to a friend.
While we were clearing everything out of the shop I found the original proof A-arms for the stadium racers. Chatted with Rory's friend about them and asked what he wanted for them (all the jigs and fixtures for the stadium racers had been repurposed). He said give him a bottle of tequila and they're mine. So they cost me a 1.75L of Jose Cuervo.
Rory told me when he first designed them he went to an auto parts warehouse and just started going through boxes of balljoints until he found some he liked. One's from a Toyota pickup, one's from a Ranger. I really wish I would have written down the years because I don't remember now.

Rory and his buddy Chuck were always in competition with eachother.
Who had the nicer house (Rory won).
Who had the bigger motorhome (Chuck won).
Who had the fastest sandrail (competition suspended, to be continued in Valhalla).

They started off with twin SV16's. Both powered by buick/rover aluminum V8's.
Chuck converted to a MegaSquirt and a custom multiport intake after multiple lean-out conditions when hill climbing. Chuck was always going for more displacement, more cooling, lighter components whereas Rory's was unchanged from the original build.
SV16's were available in many powertrain configurations- from 1600cc VW to SBC/turbo 350 combos.
We had Mickey Thompson tires with a custom tread pattern- no longer available and difficult to come by.

Why are twin solid axle vehicles so rare? Most 4x4s have for IFS, couldn't it at least be an option to have SFA?
>>
>>27639438
So you're saying....
>V8's mount them differently because of space constraints but if you're doing a custom install with an I4 that has space constraints you still want to mount it in a standard position.....because that's just how it's done.
I didn't even say to mount it in front of the engine or some shit.
I said there was plenty of room to rotate it or shift it around in the void between the engine and fenderwell for better exhaust routing.
There was no forethought of what to do after it was bolted to the log exhaust.

Since you're a diesel mechanic, tell me how many you've seen with the exhaust jammed between the starter and frame.
>>
>>27639962
The only reason you need a solid front axle is to flex on other losers on anime forums
>>
someone tells you this person drives a jeep. what kind of person do you imagine immediately comes to mind?
>>
>>27639962
It fell off right as trucks and SUVs got more popular for daily driving. Just about everyone with a solid axle vehicle tried something to make it work but in the end IFS is going to be the better option for comfort. TTB didn't work out as a compromise, the Land Rover/Range Rover active suspension designs were too complex for their own good, and everyone else couldn't work out an improvement better than using coil springs. It's unfortunate, I've had a JL wrangler as a rental a couple times and it's pretty smooth for being solid all around. There was refinement to be had but no one cared enough to try.
>>
>>27636592
What engine is that?
>>
>>27640072
Every turbo is just bolted to a log manifold like that, that’s just how it’s done.
On what axis are you recommending the turbo be rotated?

After the turbo is bolted to the log manifold, the piping does the job of getting the exhaust to the back of the car.

The complex mounting of this one was due to the enormous size of the down pipe, if the turbo were mounted near the engine on the manifold there would be no room for the down pipe to get past and under the car.

Whiteline LCA/ rack + pinion bushings and new lower ball joints have shipped. Just need to do rear links and panhard bar correction and most of the general maintenance is done.
Eventually do aftermarket UCAs when those bushings go but w the new ball joints I'll just let it ride for awhile.
Then can move on to armor.

Progressives are awesome, off or on road.
It's cheaper to just wrap coil, cut, wrap etc at the oem plant otherwise we'd all have progressive stock.

Coil springs because then I can fit van springs on whatever shitbox trugg I have for a redneck/poorfag lift.

Insurance is a scam. If you bought a new vehicle and added any mods prior to 2021, you're not going to get enough from an insurance company if you want to replace it 1 to 1. That's on road. I honestly would rather take my chances of me flipping it off road vs dipshits who are bad drivers on the road.
>>
>>27645829
if the vehicle is a total loss, financiers require insurance to replace the vehicle with a new one (in Canada). Furthermore, if it's not a total loss, you have to specifically tell your insurance company that your vehicle has lost value and you want to be compensated for that. most people don't, because most people are retards.

Why didn't AMC's air-cooled V-4 engine find a wider application in the civilian market?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M422_Mighty_Mite

Air-cooled 108
The 107.8 cu in (1.77 L) is an AMC designed air-cooled V4 engine that was used in AMC's lightweight aluminium-bodied M422 'Mighty Mite' military vehicle, built from January 1960 to January 1963 as an air transportable (by the helicopters of the time) Jeep for the U.S. Marine Corps.[1] This engine was unsuitable for regular passenger car use mainly due to its relatively small displacement and power output.
Bore and stroke: 3+1⁄4-by-3+1⁄4-inch (82.6 mm × 82.6 mm)
Compression: 7.5:1
Horsepower: 52 hp (39 kW) @ 3,600 rpm
Torque: 90 lb⋅ft (122 N⋅m) @ 2,500 rpm

>>

Sometimes if an engine has been sitting for a decade or more, people will literally fill it to the top with ATF and let it sit for a week. What is your situation?

How do I tell if it's bad gas? I go to a local chinamart equivalent so it should be good to go?

Really don't want a higher octane as that'd be a big premium and I commute far.
>>
>>27650865
Change gas stations and see if it changes anything. Sending off fuel to a lab for testing would be pretty cost-prohibitive since you'd end up trying to test multiple stations. Cheapest gas usually isn't the best gas, but it depends entirely on your area. In my case, the cheapest gas tends to be "US Gas" which I'm pretty sure is owned by Conoco (Owned by Philips 66)

I bought a cast diff cover, and the inside has the cast texture. Would it make sense to smooth that out with a die grinder or something?

Are you going to polish out the cast finish inside the iron housing also?

He also increased inflation too. Restoring these shitty old wooden towers was funded by "The Inflation Reduction Act".

Is it a good idea to get my car painted with truck bed liner paint? I saw a Mercedes vedieo with a guy that had his G painted like that and it looked cool. Does it make your cars exterior more durable?

So how does paying for refurbishing a salt tram truss from over a century ago in the middle of a desert reduce inflation?

>113 year old salt tram tower.
My house is older.
It's important to preserve history but that tram tower was just leftover industrial hardware akin to scaffolding erected around a monument for cleaning. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's important or valuable. And I'm not talking about monetary value.
Is it worthwhile to take a field trip with a bus full of school kids out to the middle of death valley to look at a a few timbers leftover from a strip mining operation?

Did you defend any of these monuments?

Right? We should demolish all historical sites because it's just worthless old shit taking up space. Why would anyone care about it?
>Did you defend any of these monuments?
Not surprised you venerate Saint Floyd in your fantastically retarded post. I hope you self-immolate soon
