Porsche owns VAG which owns Porsche.

VAG currently has
MQB: transverse engines vehicles with 4cyl engines or a VR6 and a 5 for the RS3.
MLB: a longitudinal FWD platform with the engine on the front axle. This allows for a center diff. This platform is used in Audi and Porsche.

MSB: front engine rear wheel drive. Had a bmw like Haldex awd. Porsche panamera and Bentley FS/conti

MBB: rear or mid engine models aka 992/982.
The basics of this system include optional maritals and they only share engine mounts firewall and windshield angle.
since the EVs are the future Porsche and Audi co developed the 2.9V6 and the 4.0T VB8 and the the 3.0T is Audi. The 2.0T is forged and much better quality than the VW one, similar design though. The Porsche has dynamic mode locked behind the sport chronograph package and other things that Porsche does.
A Q5 without AWD is FWD. A macan is RWD. The Q5 had Quattro ultra or a crown center diff. The macan has PTMS which is mostly rwd unless wot or slip.
The Porsche has the Porsche steering rack and Bose and the big center console and some other Porsche parts where the Audi has the Audi rack and B&O and other things. Elevator pitch:
Q5 is an Audi AWF crossover.
A macan is a crossover that feels like a sports car (according to Porsche).

I didn’t make the threads lmao. You’re just in denial about the fact the Turbo S isn’t considered a good car by /o/. Or the market. The dealers tried to convince everyone the turbo s was s as sought after as the gt3 but it’s just not.
GT3 is everything people want in a track car. It’s NA. It’s double Bs. It’s caged. It’s light weight. It’s dry dumped. It’s got aero that isn’t just for show. The track fags want it badly becuase they all know what the C2s and BMWs don’t do well.

The Mcturbo is a 7 series stuffed into a 911. It’s got a lot of power and respectable lateral Gs but it’s not fixing problems for track fags. It’s got problems for track fags. The turbo S fixed problems for ceo on his commute.
That’s the problem with it. Lots of cars do 600hp now. And for the Mcturbo it still has too much poverty spec parts like the McDonald’s to justify its price tag vs it’s commotion

I see people laughing at losers like you every track day. Better yet I suggest you sell the Mcturbo since you can’t afford it or drive it any different than my wife would and you don’t know anything about the car that wasn’t in a Carwow video. get a V6 Camry because that’s the kind of car you should be driving. good morning MacSchizo! I see youre up early and ready for another busy day of moving goalposts.
NJ huh? I should've known given the combination of hubris, ignorance and ego on proud display.
This isn't really about the cars is it? It's all about your ego. Inviting me to NJ to conefag or for some "PCA hot laps" proves nothing objectively about the performance of the cars, does it? Of course not, but you've been seething all week and while maybe that was your original argument, now your feelz and ego have been hurt and you're thinking "i'll show that guy whos better!" And thank you for reinforcing the stereotype that Porsche owners and track fags are gatekeeping pricks, most of my track bros are pretty cool but one must stay vigilant to weed out the assholes.
Just enjoy your fuckin car and dont get your ego all tied up in material shit and oneupmanship because nobody really cares who finished 5th or 1st in their class at some hpde wank session.

Here we see the 917 is extremely Porsche and we can see that a boxster is extremely NARP. A macan is NARP. A 911 C2 is NARP starting with the 996. The 996 Turbo and GT3 however have Mezger engines.

The model works quite well because the C2 is useless Starbucks cruiser. The Turbo S is interesting because it’s got McDonalds and a turbo charged C2 engine. And so the model predicts it is NARP. In fact when we consult the market it is indeed losing value faster than almost any Porsche. NARP.

Porsche Panamera.
I’ve wanted one since they launched. Love the big 911 look and need the back seats which model though is going to be the easiest to live with?

I’m thinking 2013-2017 2S or GTS but I’d consider the Turbo if it’s more reliable. I’ve heard the V6 isn’t reliable and the V8s are super reliable except for the cooling hose in the rear which needs to be replaced before you buy, is covered by a recall.

The 971 I’d maybe consider with the 2.9T but that engine is very bland.

Any one have any insight?im thinking GTS bc i *might* track it once or twice and its got the dry sump and brakes to have a decent time.

Having a toddler and dealing with car seats, something like this is pretty ideal compared to an SUV just because lifting a three year old to put them in the seat is a pain in the ass. Big part of the reason I didn't mind getting a vert, just drop the top and it makes putting them in the seat very easy.
>>
>>27760641
I like the 971 better for sure without the MBA head space ruining the silhouette. But I like them both. They look like Porsches
>>
>>27760969
>>27760641
I get the idea and looks are subjective but the panamera is the last in line of any Porsche I’d buy. Cayennes aren’t really lifted that much and even though I’m not a huge fan of their style either, it just seems less forced design. Shit I’d buy an Audi sedan first or a Mercedes. I guess the good news is that they depreciate like rocks so you can buy a lot more car after a few years than elsewhere in the brand
>>
I drove a 991.1 Carrera S last week. After driving a bunch of other cars in the $70-100k bracket (CT4 Blackwing, Giulia Quadrifoglio, G80 M3) and being let down, I started to think turbo cars just suck, so wanted to try the last N/A 911 that didn't have a retarded markup. Total letdown, I was most surprised with how terrible the interior is, I was expecting a Sinn watch, got a U-Boat., horrible design, aged extremely poorly. Otherwise, the car is just nothing special, the steering and suspension are both mediocre, and it's just not fun to drive. Drove a Mustang GT350 today, and although I don't think I would buy one as I'm not a boomer, it makes the 911 look like an absolute joke while costing $20k less current market.
>>
>>27761220
That's what we've been saying for ages, a C2S is an equivalent car to an M440i or S5 but costs as much as an M4 or RS5 for no apparent reason
>>
>>27761237
I don't know who "we" is, and I would still take the 991.1 Carrera S over any Audi made after 1990 and a G80 M3/G82 M4, but it doesn't mean the car is a good value, those cars all just suck too.
>>
>>27761268
This board has been saying it and Porsche has obviously been aiming the C2/C2s at a casual market and shopping wives for 20 years (and it works). IMO you’d be naive to take a 991.1 now in the current market, you’d be severely over paying just to have the badge. They don’t even come with brake vectoring standard let alone an LSD. And the buyers of these cars don’t know what it is let alone why they would pay thousands for it. It’s not being optioned. An S5 and 440i do have that standard.
The current M4 is not my favorite either but you could buy it and tune it safely and have a car that is competitive with a turbo.
keep in mind I suppose the M4 is really a 4 series and the 4 series gets by selling 430is so it’s primarily designed for fitting people and things and going places. The only thing the 911 has going for it is that Porsche has somewhat kept it small. Not really though, but somewhat.

Here we see the VK.4501(P) and the Maus are extremely Porsche and we can see that a 251 is extremely NARP. A panther is NARP. A Tiger is NARP starting with the Tiger II (P). The Volkswagen, Schwimmwagen, and Kubelwagen however are Porsche designed.

The model works quite well because the StuG is useless hide and seek cruiser. The Königstiger is interesting because it’s got flimsier torsion bars and a different turret from Ferdinand Porsche's original design. And so the model predicts it is NARP. In fact when we consult the records it is indeed losing battles faster than almost any Porsche. NARP.

Ok so it’s feature for feature tied with a 335i? Great. Somebody help this brother understand that paying $65k for a 10 year old 90k mile C2S isn’t going to be better than a BRAND NEW M340i. Or you could be FIVE 90k mile 335is from the same year.

That C2S is overpriced as boomers are living out their last good decade spending their kids inheritance checking off the bucket list. You could get a BRAND NEW C8 with 500hp or a 90k mile 350hp 911.

On the street I only notice it on an on ramp if you are pushing it. And it really does tuck the nose in. Have to remember the Macan is an Audi chassis and Audi has mounted the engine on the front axle for decades. Porsche however runs a RWD set up and the awd is there for launch and ice. Audi sport diff (S/RS/BMWX6) actually an overdrive diff and it will split the torque mechanically. That works extremely well. The Q5 has brake vectoring and it works just as well in use.
Woth P you are spending brake pads and rotors to accomplish this bc Porsche to my knowledge uses a Ferrari like locking diff when you PTV+ and a regular mech diff if you see PTV. If you push the gas or the brake pedal at all it will lock the diff so you will not oversteer your car and they will not be called ‘widow maker’ anymore.

Because 911s inherently understeer they tie this system in to a brake vectoring system as well which will help you by pinching the inside wheels in a way that you turn in without understeer.

Some people are buying base C8s and dropping in trad mechanical locking diffs because the e-diff (Z51 package) is in some ways slowing you down for safety purposes. If you try to trail brake or oversteer in a corner it will lock and you’ll understeer. People hate that. However, other people hate oversteering into a tree because they bought a 600hp car and didn’t ever learn to drive (anyone come to mind itt?).
Porsche used it on the macan because it’s trying to make it feel like a sporty 911 despite Audis system really being ‘better’.
If you want excellent handling you need to address the understeer and so PTV+ is the solution. It works. The LSD is there to keep you going straight, but it’s an AWD car with big tires too.
I’d get it for me, it makes the car handle in a point and shoot neutral way. I wouldn’t bother for my wife. She wouldn’t notice the difference.
I have burned through street pads very fast with this system. Hope that helps

Asking in the NARP thread because I didn't want to make a dedicated one:

My dad has been driving cushy, powerful landbarges for half a century, but he now has an arthritic hip and can't get into sedans very well, and so he needs a new car. He's looking at the Audi SQ8 and BMW X7 M60, and I've also shilled him on the Cayenne S. He didn't like the AMG GL53 because it was too nigged up, and he doesn't like the styling of the Lexus.

Is there anything else to consider in this segment that we should take a look at?

SQ8 is a good buy because it’s got the best mechanical stuff Audi has made as far as the engine and drivetrain goes and the interior is the blueprint for Audi going forward so all the if models will be updating to that style and tech. Aka it will be new feeling for quite some time and likely will be thr last non EV version.

The Q8 is more like an X6 and the X7 is one size up. I feel the X7 handles pretty well for its size and it has more room but he may not want that big of a vehicle.

Cayenne s has different more ‘Porsche’ feel. Aka it’s rougher riding but not necessarily in a way that’s faster. He may like it over an SQ8.

They made Escalade V with a kino V8 worth looking at desu.
>>
>>27762467
I own the Macan Turdbo and I would probably get the Macan T over it next round. T iirc is a GTS and all the fun options with the 4cylinder. The GTS feels a lot like an RS5 which is pretty fun albeit the car is raised and has Less good awd and less good torque vectoring but it feels pretty close but you have the practicality of the macan and it feels like a Porsche.
so with that said the 2.9T in the Macan Turbo and GTS has power and torque but it’s pretty dull and characterless. The 3.0T is similar. Given the Macans engine mounting location the less weight of the 2.0T and the meh nature of the 2.9TT I would take the 2.0T. It’s reliable, it’s issues are covered under recall for 120k miles and worse scenario is the turbo wastegate fails somewhere around 100k miles but even fixing that is not a crazy expense and so with regular servicing you’ll have a fun car that is mostly bulletproof for 150k miles easily.
The 3.0t in the S is pretty close to the 2.9T by the way. Porsche just tunes it to be more ‘soooth’ and less aggressive than Audi does. Both V6s have a very slow to go throttle map. For me it’s just not that great.
Easy Macan T recommendation from me. And I will be getting one in fact. I also don’t recommend tuning the engine, lot of shit parts out there in the aftermarket.
>>
>>27763108
Thanks for the tip on the X6, I'll have him take a look at that one as well as the X7.
WRT to the Audi interior, he and I both thought that it was a cut above the other ones in this segment, so it makes sense that Audi wants to port it to other vehicles in their lineup. That faux Alcantara was definitely nice.

K dude buy the C2.
I don’t understand what we are trying to say here. That the platonic form of a C2S from 2013 can out lap a 2013 335i? Is this meaningful to you? Let me explain reality to you.

If I had a 2013 335i and you had a 991C4S would destroy you on any track you pick and I’d have $50k extra money to buy Nvidia stock with.

If you had a 2013 BMW 335i and I had a 991 C2S I would destroy you on any track you like and YOU would have $50k to spend on no video stock.

If we met up right now my Turbo would take 3 car seats and your wife around the track faster than you can go in a 991 Turbo and YOU have a massive loan to pay off. Because you are a NARP bench racing moron.
Those 335is can all safely be chip tuned easily. And they all are doing 450+hp and PS4S not whatever runflaf continental bmw ships them in and they are tested in. Porsche sends what? N0 sport cups?

It doesn’t matter buddy. All I can see is you spending $50k extra to go slow. If you’re under 50 years old why the fuck would you do that. Bc a magazine in 1999 said the fried egg narp was better than a lotus?

ITS NARP! It’s not $50k better than a run of the mill BMW. We’re not even talking about the M3s and RS5s and corvettes and STis and Tesla’s you could get that are actually aimed at lap times.

And you don’t even own a C2 you bought a McTurbo (I hope you aren’t making payments) presumably because you were aware that you needed to spend more money to get a faster car than a 2009 M6.
>>
>>27763905
I'm this guy
>>27761220

I haven't followed whatever dialogue you seemed to have been having with some other anon so I won't even try to decipher it, but comparing a base Carrera to a 335i makes no sense. A 335i is a generic shitbox. Nobody is cross shopping that car to a 911. It's a mediocre car at a fair to good price. A C2S is a decent car at a ridiculous price. It's two different problems and a different way to end up with a bad car.

If you want a 911, I'm guessing you want something that's unique, feels special to drive, is quick, handles great, and looks good. Having driven all these cars lately, I recommend driving the 911, and then checking out a Giulia Quadrifoglio, GT350, and the Model 3 Performance that just came out. If you still think the 911 is worth a premium on those cars go for it, I would be surprised if anyone felt that way though unless they really thought a C2S would hold it's value. Having seen that same "rising tide lifts all boats" where 350ci base Malibus 4x'd in price alongside 454SS for a few months, and 912s did it alongside 911 RS 3.0s, it won't last. There will be a few modern 911s that stay up there but not many. Not even the 991/992 GT3, they just made way too many of them.
>>
>>27763905
>If I had a 2013 335i and you had a 991C4S would destroy you on any track you pick and I’d have $50k extra money to buy Nvidia stock with.

>>
>>27764043
>they just made way too many of them.
That's a short sighted trap. Look at all of the Honda Civics, RX7s, GTRs, etc. mass produced cars that pull premiums now, especially for a clean and rarer spec'd models. Nostolgia creates a huge bidding base. How many people grew up with an Alfa vs a 911?
>>
>>27764064
>grew up with
You planning on buying a GT3 and holding it for 40 years? To be clear, I don't think any of those other cars are investment pieces whatsoever, and if you are buying a car to drive, you shouldn't worry about that either. Of those shitboxes you listed, none of them sell anywhere close to MSRP unless they are in some extraordinary circumstance of spec, condition, mileage, and history, and if you put what the original owner bought them for in the S&P500 it would still outperform anyway and you could just cash that out and buy it, not to mention all the storage and maintenance costs it takes to keep a car like that for that long.
>>
>>27764082
>S&P500
People aren't buying these cars years later without having money anon. I picked up my 997.2 CS4 six speed a couple weeks ago, and don't plan on selling it. Currently in the shop being fully inspected, new clutch, fluids, brakes, GT3 upgrades, and some other mods. They're fantastic cars to drive, and I intend to use it as a daily driver. Fit and finish is very good compared the the 996, but that's also a great driving car for someone that's ok with the looks and wants the discount. GT2 kit on them looks sweet.

HOW IS A GAY ASS BEETLE RIDING ON MCDONALD'S BEATING A CAR WITHOUT MACCAS?
>>
>>27764111

Most people I know with a 911 are in big time loans desu. I do know a guy with a 992 GT3 that was bought with cash.

Most people don’t know what they are getting in to. Especially the 996/997.1 which is of course a time bomb. You can’t be making payments on these and not be ready for the engine to grenade in them. Just can’t. Of course some will go 200k with few issues. But if it doesn’t these people are screwed.
If you can afford it and want a 911 buy it. But don’t buy without knowing what it is. It is a slow McDonald strut machine that is maximizing margins for VAG until you start looking at GT3s/STs/GT2s.
If you like it and don’t mind spending a lot of money to maintain a car that is not particularly go for it.
This worship of Porsche is pretty unique t8 NARP guys though. The people that own them and track them are well aware that the 996 is a turd, that it NEEDS several of the GT3 upgrades to even be fun to drive and reliable. That the pdk needs extra cooling.
Have to just roll my eyes at these bench raving losers who think every 911 is just the best car ever.

Right now performance cars are in a bubble. It will burst and then I do think some cars will go up. The thing is which ones are in the Covid bubble and which ones are in the Boomer bubble.
993 air cooled Porsches are just going to be money makers. Real Porsche that is generation proof. I can’t see a 996 that isn’t a GT3 or Turbo holding value past this current economic situation.

Interestingly though Porsche estimates that 60% of the cars they’ve made since day one are still out there. And 996s are grenading all the time so maybe they will go up due to the difficulty of getting a cheap 911 not getting any easier anytime soon. But it will always be worth less than a 993 or a 997 or 991

The M97 baffle system is fucked and doesn’t work. That’s why the GT3 uses the Mezger with a dry sump and also why the GT3 and Turbo are worth $70k and the fried egg C2 is worth $20k.

Of course this is all irrelevant for daily driving isn’t it? But that’s what I’ve been saying all along. The C2 is NARP, it’s set up for comfy cruising. It’s not worth buying a 25 year old 996 C2 for $25k and then paying $15k to sort out the engine when the chassis is set up for floating around and it’s 25 year old steel that’s flexy and loose. I rent this place and have not initiated mental process of getting house with 6/8 garages. Probably after 2025 crypto bubble ends.
When the car came up in that spec I *had* to get it on the spot, there's like 2 manuals on sale in my country atm, and far more expensive. Serious answer.

Anons. Give me the hard truth. Let's say I have money for a porsche. Is it gay if I bought a Boxster Spyder RS over a 911(say a 992 GTS, Targa, or 991.2 GT3)? And before you answer, yes I would take them to the track.
>>
>>27769384
if you buy anything that's not a 992 GT3 that's NARP

You obviously are not buying a vert or targa to go to the track, and since you didn't know that, you definitely have zero track experience, so certainly would not be taking a GTS or GT3 to the track either, way too much car for you.

Yeah but constantly being exposed to the elements and changing humidity just fucks the rubber and plastic and paint.
Sad state of affairs for your Porsche.
>>
>>27769384
Not gay at all, but you will have to check with the tracks you want to go to to see if they allow convertibles. For the track near me, they allow it so long as the top of your helmet sits below the windshield and factory roll bars.
But if you're serious about tracking, not just the occasional HDPE day, the 991.2 GT3 (or 718 GT4 RS) would definitely be the way to go.
>>

Mercedes S class sized sedan with Porsche performance? Would you have asked if the 928 was a real Porsche? The 914 should be questioned more. But why aren't the 914 more popular? You can easily engine swap them and their considered to be amazing. Basically a mid engined miata.
>>27746242
This is the same chassis as the panamera. The engine in the v8 version is the same engine as a panamera.

Rude, but fair. No one takes a targa to the track so that was a retarded choice. Also no car is too much for a retard who plays too many racing Sims.
>>
>>27773510
If you don't have the money to afford one of these cars, consider spending ~$500 or so to do a track experience in one. It's a fun way to drive a car you'd otherwise never get to drive, on a real track with a real instructor, even if it's only for a handful of laps
>>
>>27773790
Bro if he can’t afford a used cayman or boxster, he don’t need to be dropping $500 to zoom around in someone else’s. Just go to kart track and have some fun for $50, or find a way to get more money. Also tracking your only car is just asking to get punched in the face by bad luck. Holy retardation

Let’s see what people with actual knowledge say about the 911 tt/tts market.
Hint: you are so wrong! Lmao
