Yamaha have been known to make the odd car engine or two. The v6 in the Ford Taurus was one of theirs.Volvo and Toyota also ran Yamaha engines

Opposite question- why didn't Mazda make bikes? Bike is just about the most logical place for a rotary.

Norton pulled a rotary normally used in drone aircraft and made a rather controvertial series of bikes.

Every company that's made a rotary bike has gone bankrupt soon after, and I think only Suzuki survived their attempt. Norton and NSU exploded over their attempts.

Toyota and Yamaha are great friends. long history.

Yamaha helped Toyota on many engine projects. lfa, is-f, 2000gt, 1jz etc
>>
>>27771154
actually surprising how much they collaborated with toyota. 3s-ge, 4a-ge, even the 3vz-fe in the camry which had to be detuned so it had less power than the 2jz-ge lol

one of the greatest japanese collabs

I think they both help each other greatly. it's a honor owning of their collabs (is-f)

Because they did it before Mazda figured out the rotary proper. Most car manufacturers who tried using rotary also either abandoned it soon or imploded, and yet, we got RX-8 and even the new rotary generators in their hybrids.

Norton got into rotaries after the RX-7 was already an established brand, but on the other hand they lasted over a decade with multiple models reaching production so I wouldn't say they exploded over the attempt. Hell, the head designer from Norton now has his own company that sells rotary motorcycles. I doubt they move much product, but enough that the lights are still on after ten years.
