I bought a WRX TR this week. How bad did I fuck up?
Fine if under MSRP, raped if over and you should've bought a base and a STi BBK
pretty cool but defies the car industry by becoming slower over time, maybe 0-60 in 5 seconds is around about what most people can take.
>>27773697>vegasAyyy I went to The Meadows School. But I wouldn't recommend that car brah, poor MPGs and relatively mediocre performance either as a "sports car" or as a family sedan. It's lackluster at everything, unless you really really need AWD. But you live in Vegas so that'll prly almost never see snow
>>27773697ugly. slow. gay.
>>27773697Is it manual? What is TR? Can you still get the WRX with a mechanical LSD?
>>27773843
>>27773697That car was made to rally raid. Do it faggot.
>>27773716Got a solid deal on my trade in, got the standard discount subaru is applying to all WRXs. >>27773727this is 100% a momentum car, the engine is secondary to the chassis. >>27773733I live in the PNW. The E36 M3 was called lackluster back in the day because it was a jack of all trades, expert at none. I've owned two. There is something I love about a car that is at home at all environments and imo the current gen WRX is one of the cleanest incarnations ever of the practical sports car concept. I had a UrS4 that made less power and got 13mpg. This thing is great, bra. >>27773846TR comes in manual only, no sunroof, brembo 6 pots front, 2 pots rear, recaro seats, retuned suspension, steering and engine map, slightly stiffer chassis.
>>27773697>How bad did I fuck up?You got it in gray.
>>27773901I didn't buy a gray one, that is just a pic from google
>>27773697lmfaoooooo
Shoulda got a 3 Series.
>>27773911So uh this is an imageboard, why don't you post your car
>>27773923Which one?
>>27773923because i've been coming here for 20 years and I know better than to post my car
>>27773916I had a S550 GT Track Pack with a FPP stage 2 kit. It was fun. I am bored and done with heavy RWD cars.
>>27773937so you got an ugly slow gay wrx? lol
>>27773697>>27773937I live in a snow state and I’m stuck deciding between a TR or a used S550.They’re also replacing the TR with a new TS trim next year, may wait for that, but I’d feel like a goober driving around in what’s essentially an STI knock off.For the Mustang’s case, it’s basically the only car with a ton of horsepower that’s also relatively affordable.
I don't think it has $9000 worth of components better than a wrx base trim but I am a poorfag and got a 2019 base in december for $25k.
>>27773697The only thing I don't like about them is the auto braking, that shit is unacceptable but basically every new car has it.
>>27773883Serious question, what made you get the WRX TR over a GR Corolla? Considering they're nearly the same price if you get a Core with the Performance Pack. I feel like the WRX is better if you're modding it cause you have 8+ years of VA WRXs to develop off of + no transfer case issues from the overdriven ring and pinion, but the GR is the better all around car if you're keeping it stock or lightly modded (ie under 350whp and not seriously tracking it)
>>27774253Do you believe a 3 cylinder in its very first high power, high boost application will be more reliable, or an evolutionary Subaru 4 cylinder
>>27774268Toyota has a better reputation than Subaru even with Subaru evolving their motor for 10+ years. EJs are a great example. Their 3cyl is comically overbuilt anyways and the "high boost" is 3-4psi lower than what a FA20 WRX made factory...just the G16 has a head that flows extremely well. The turbo is the same size maybe a little smaller than the FA20 WRX. Plus the WRX has open diffs. That's my biggest problem with it. Giving it LSDs at front/center/rear isn't practical unless you spend real time and money.
>>27773697You know it's still a real WRX because the wheels are still horrifically ugly as fuck
>>27774545I hate low profile tires. There I said it. I hate them on everything except the most extreme low sitting sports cars because they're only 2" off the ground anyway but they're putting them on crossovers, disgusting. They've also put them on the WRX now. That car is AWD and known for rally racing. It should have 16" wheels and some sidewall. Those wheels and tires are the thing I hate most about the WRX.
>>27774542Toyota had a better reputation. That has been changing rapidly over the last couple of years.
>>27774557Toyotas worst engines are as reliable as Subarus best engines. The 2.4 Turbo 4cyl is pretty good and their non turbo engines are rock solid despite running literal water viscosity for oil. And the G16 GTS is already 3-4 years old with no issues other than weak valve springs past 350whp.
>>27774571I'll take any EJ over a dogshit 2AZ-FE
>>27774627I'd be more willing to bet on a reliable 2azfe than a reliable late model ej253 or fb25, almost every engine out of subaru post 2008 gfc blew up by now. even the non turbo cars had nasty oil consumption
>>27773697the wheel well plastic trims you can paint over at least and hide the weird shape of thembut seriously what the fuck were they thinking with this bumper? why does it extend out several inchesliterally what the fuck is this
>>27774096>They’re also replacing the TR with a new TS trim next year, may wait for that, but I’d feel like a goober driving around in what’s essentially an STI knock off.My .02 is that the TR was expensive enough, I don't want to pay for adjustable suspension. The blue panels on the Ts seats look gay. Then as you said the goober factor.>For the Mustang’s case, it’s basically the only car with a ton of horsepower that’s also relatively affordable. The mustang is honestly a piece of shit. Everybody complains about the clutch feeling weird, you know what has a normal clutch? a GT350. Ford gimped the clutch on the GT just to punish you. Mine was built so shitty that by 30k miles it had rattles and the seat belts didn't wind up by themselves. The entire underside looks like it was designed to catch road salt.
>>27774253OP Here. I didn't consider the Corolla for a couple reasons.>I like passive AWD systems, my first choice would have been a center torsen but I have had a number of subarus before and the viscous center works great>The corolla looks cheap and there is no way I am spending that kind of money to get that interior and boy racer exterior. I like how the WRX looks grown up and how the TR is fairly low key. >I don't want a highly strung, tiny motor>Trying to test drive a GR before ordering one is a process. I don't want to deal with the hassle and I am not ordering a car with out driving it first. >This car is going to be primarily used for traveling to remote work sites, and adventuring. The WRX seems like it will do a better job. >Also to your last point, I could get an intake a tune for ~$1k and have more power than I need.
>>27774123>I don't think it has $9000 worth of components better than a wrx base trim but I am a poorfag and got a 2019 base in december for $25k.So #1 I would have been in the market for a Premium trim sooo say $33,000 with factory discount. Look at the price of a full set of new VA STI calipers. I don't have a place to work on my car so I'd have to pay for them to be installed, that is most of the difference from Premium to TR. Then there is the more refined engine tuning and steering on the TR, the seats. And the fact all this is covered by a warranty.
>>27774268Yes.
>>27774868Everything wrong with the WRX can basically be explained as shit that looked good on their handbuilt concept and then translated terribly to mass-produced molded plastic parts.
>>27774868The wheel arch plastics have grown on me. I was 100% sold on getting color matched ones but now that I am living with it I like how it looks like an outback sport sedan or something. It kinda blends in more with the mass of subarus out there. As for the bumper... yeaaaaaah. When the aftermarket comes out with something that looks OEM+ I am going to be all over that. Like if you look at that picture you posted and mentally delete the black plastic, the painted bit has this tight little ass. It just needs an actual diffusor or something else to clean up the look.
>>27774915The wheel arches are easily replaced, the rear bumper is easily replaced. idk where the aftermarket is with making pieces that draw from the concept. Like literally just cut the stock bumper along the paint line and have an actual sculpted diffusor that gets bolted to the bottom of the chassis
>>27774571You haven't been paying attention. Toyota is in some serious shit right now.
>>27774924Did they hit 88 miles per hour?!
>>27774915It doesn't take much to start cleaning up the look
>>27774924Oh I have, the Tundra/LX600 engine is a one-off, probably a bearing supplier issue that will be fixed soon, the other V6 Turbos are fine in the GX and LS. The 2.4 Turbos are fine and built like a 1990s engine other than the direct injection. Ditto the 3cyl Turbo in the GRs. The G16 is remarkably similar to the BMW B58 in construction with comically thick cylinder walls (very unlikely to flex and move around, unlike EJs that require tons of bullshit to keep the motor from physically moving like 1/2in headstuds). Toyotas worst is unironically still better than most car makers best. You just have contrarian shills on /o/ that will somehow live in a magic world where a clapped 15 year old BMW N54 is just as reliable as a new Corolla hybrid and will masturbate to any bad news about the brand on top of chinkshit EV shills who again, pretend their car is as well built as a Toyota (not realizing they're admitting Toyota is the benchmark for most normie appliance cars) >>27774887Makes sense. I actually like the interior in the Corolla more. I dislike the touchscreen HVAC controls. Personally I don't like the open diff on the WRXs, you really feel it on corner exit where other AWDs you can just floor it out of a corner and it'll rocket out. Toyota dealership experience would be a turnoff too. They've been getting better about it now that the hype is dying but they can still be shitty in some of the cities, Honda is worse about their dealers desu
>>27774939
>>27774939This is one of the gayest corollas i've ever seen
>>27774952I'm not a huge fan of the touch screen but I can live with it. When a torsen/helical is available for the rear diff I am going to get that. a viscous center isn't a whole lot different feeling than a helical center, id take the helical over it every time though. My technique for driving older subarus is to late apex: brake in a straight line, rotate the car hard while putting in some yaw, then use the understeer under acceleration to null out the yaw. I know with the computer controlled systems you can put in a lot of throttle while you still have a lot of steering input but I never learned to drive that way. >>27774954hahahahahahaha
>>27774956Right? but it drives amazing
>>27774968Lol just get a 3 Series already. E90 335i.
>>27774973>3635lbs>Modern BMW reliability (lel)>Old>Looks horrible, especially compared to F32snah, I ain't 20, 25, 30 or 35 anymore and I don't want to spend my weekends wrenching. I did think about F32s a bit but I just don't want a 3600-3700lbs class car anymore. The 3400lbs WRX is as heavy as I will go.
>>27774973But I don't like BMW
>>27774978wrxs are GAY as FUCK goddamn weeblet ricelet stancelet slowfaglet. f32s have gay ass eps kek.Just get an E92 already. 335i.
>>27774979
>>27774980>instead of buying a new car with AWD and a warranty buy a shitty old RWD German money pit insteadThis is your mind on poorbesides if there are corners involved a VB is going to embarrass the fuck out of any bmw luxury barge commuter car.

>>27774992Oh what your car can't take a corner at 45 mph? Awd chads rise up!
>>27775000my cars are definitely faster than yours lol
>>27773697thats literally the one worth buying. fuck off
>>27775000Trips don’t lie
>>27773697why do all subaru headgasket blow?
>>27775394They don't anymore but the answer to the question is that they used a composite head gasket that was inappropriate for the boxer engine. They have since switched to a layered metal one, problem solved.
>>27774952>>27774927
>>27775638whoa, a whole 1.2 billion?
>>27775648
>>27773916BRO JUST GET A TUNE ON YOUR 15 YEAR OLD 335i
>>27775976yeah why not
>>27773697Your car is slower than my $4,500 lol base model v6 Dodge Avenger and I know because I outpaced and outdrove some WRX cockballer a couple weeks ago. And my bushings/rubbers are all shot and the tires are garbage.
>>27774917JD Muscle has an excellent rear bumper I've been wanting for a while.
>>27774939Picrel
>>27775638>>27775648>>27775668Holy fuck Toyota committed securities fraud it's over for Toyotacels the company is OVER what will we do Toyotabros??? We're gonna be the next Enron!
the brakes alone are worth it on TR, i got a premium but i think i should have bought base instead.
You just gotta eat the subaru crosstrek wheel arches if you buy a VB. The paint-matched ones look wonky as fuck.
>>27773697I think you did good. I need a truck for toy-hauling but if I had the money for a car too, a WRX would be a strong contender. People say they look goofy, but I love it. I love the Subaru AWD. Yeah, it's not the fastest car but it's decent performance for the price while also being practical. Seats 5. Big trunk. Comes in manual. Just seems like it would be a fun car.
>>27774915They could've made this the STI version with so little effort, why is Subaru so retarded>>27774939This shit still looks retarded. That have to be the most pathetic tacked on fenders I've ever seen.If you're gonna glue some plastic crap onto the car, at least give it some proper width.
>>27777300It's funny because both older Evos and STis had plastic fender flares at some point attached to the body. Paint matching them would've cost nothing and looked a hell of a lot better. Pic rel was on Evos 5-6
>>27777300I dont get why the aftermarket hasn't stepped up with replacement flares that both add a couple inches and call back to the concept. Its total low hanging fruit.
>>27777357How many GR Corollas sell to people who intend to own rather than flip? How many of those owners intend to modify at all? How many intend to make cosmetic modifications rather than solely performance?
>>27777404M8 he's talking about the fucking WRX
>>27773697you did good, u has car now, are you going to pull a fuse for fuel savings if not towing in snow
>>27776200>bro my shitbox stomped some vapelord once >0-60 times are a whole second apartmy shitbox has outpaced empirically faster cars, but I'm not so deluded as to think it's the better car
