Are steel bumpers really worth the added cost and weight up front? I've heard they cause horrible brake dive adding 100lbs to the lip of the vehicle.

i know that feel, was it the pump or just a line? i rigged mine with $30 in parts from NAPA and Home Depot 2 years ago and it's still holding together

-galvanized shelf bracket
-electrical conduit bracket bent to hold line
-18" brake line from NAPA
-bits of leftover radiator hose to splice it together
-some concrete anchor sleeves to space out the bracket from the fender
-stainless hose clamps

i also have a C-clamp holding a coolant line bracket to the frame and a piece of wood spacing my battery in the tray.

It wasn't that bad. Now whets fun is when your truck stalls and it has hydro boost brakes and you got to put it into the median not to rear end a mini van. lol

Now I'm wonder how well my jeep will do with a trailer. Been thinking of moving back to VA.
>>
>>27790202
Virginia is one of the worst places to drive, why would you want to live there? The cops are all complete fags and the people are largely incestuous and it's a blue state.
>>
>>27790210
I know i moved away over 3 years ago. I just find things boring out here. And i miss late night salt water fishing. I would setup a LLC before i left anyways and keep MT tags on my shit. Because i have permeant tags and we don't have inspections or PP taxes on our cars here.
>>
>>27790229
idk what people mean when they say boring unless they live in Iowa, MT has tons of cool areas to explore and go innawoods and while it doesn't have quite the same forests as VA it also doesn't have nearly the amount of leftist cuck faggot bootlicking cunts either

idk i guess i'm at an age where i just dislike people enough that i actually go out of my way to live apart from them and only want to be near like-minded individuals. call it an echo chamber but i'm sick of trannies and nogs.
>>
>>27790254
Im in the more boring part of the state. Im still just thinking about it. One reason is i cant afford this apt on my own. And finding a room mate out here is hard as fuck for some reason. I have a place in VA to go to that isn't bad if i choose but yeah i really don't fucking like VB. Also thing has gone a bit nutty around here that i carry again while in town. Didn't do that when i first moved here. But hey you want to move im looking for room mate lol.

do toyota guys just think they can get away with 0 maintenance? that tire doesn't look big, maybe even stock size so it has to be original ball joints just fell apart. Anyone who has half a brain can tell when they ball joints are worn out so I'm thinking this guy is somewhat retarded.

Yeah I literally know like 6 people it has happened to, my neighbor before I moved had a black 2000 and I was showing them pics of my friend who had a roll over at 70 because the brand new jap ball joints he put on failed, he replaced them months before because he wanted the truck to be fresh
While I was showing them the pics I told them the ball joints randomly broke and they were completely shocked because they said the exact same thing happened to them driving through the air port in Vegas
Me telling them that made them want to sell the truck

i just kinda posted the flawed design. if someone uses non-toyota LBJ, it will come apart. if someone installs a toyota branded LBJ but doesn't use a torque wrench, it will come apart. if someone ignores any front-end play, the ball joint is suspect and could fly apart. not great.

+1 thanks for the info, all good stuff as I'm running some really thin stock steel ones but they're rusted to fuck and one has a hole in it now. Will probably go steel honestly, ARB makes a nice set for $750 that covers my engine, pan, tranny, and transfer case.

>>27799865
This is my concern, aluminum could dent easily and push up into something causing secondary damage. Luckily my truck has pissed and shidded enough oil, tranny fluid, and power steering fluid all over itself that most of its is rust-proofed. Another cooler line or oil recirculator blowing out should cover off my skid plates.
>>
>>27799880
$750? jesus that seems like a lot of money. Can't you find a truck that has the skid plates in a junkyard?

Not a lot of FJ Cruisers that end up in junkyards, normally they're repairable or they're such a horrific writeoff that there's nothing salvageable. Plus 90% of the time when a truck with aftermarket mods goes to an auction after an accident it's scooped up, parts are stripped, and then sold individually on eBay by bodyshops/pajeets. I saw one FJ in a scrapyard ever and it was a purple 2007 that had rolled multiple times, not even sure there was a single part to be saved on it.

https://www.actiontrucks.com/product-detail/ARB5421100/under-vehicle-protection?gad_source=1

Many companies want $500-700 just for a front plate because they're just made in small batches by some guy in his garage. I think ARB makes them in bigger volume so they can bring down the price a bit, $750 is the cheapest I could find for this much protection.

"Allen" is a brand name.
It's like saying "vice grips" for locking pliers or "channel locks" for slip joint water pump pliers
"Hex key" is proper nomenclature.
>Published advertisements for the "Allen safety set screw" by the Allen Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut, exist from 1910.

1.) You should only own Vise Grip brand Vise Grips, everything else is a shitty derivative that is less ergonomic and inferior quality.
2.) You should only ever refer to them as Vise Grips, calling them locking pliers is retard shit.
3.) Channel Locks are synonymous with adjustable pliers but commonly people mistake them as an "adjustable wrench". Calling them Channel Locks makes it more clear what you're talking about.
4.) Hex key sounds like some gay wizard shit.
5.) If Allen invented it they get to be its namesake, like how we refer to your illness as Asperger's in honor of the guy who discovered it.

"vice grip" is now owned by Stanley and are trash.
Knipex make superior slip-joint pliers (so do multiple other companies).
If you know someone who refers to channel locks as an "adjustable wrench" then they are retards. And retards usually hang out with other retards so that says a lot about you.
If you can accept "hex head bolt" but "hex key" reminds you of some fantasy RPG then you more than likely have the mentality of a 12 year old and should probably just sit down and shut the fuck up while adults are having a discussion

yeah but they don't have that OG heritage and branding, and that has to count for something. new Vise Grips are just as heavily built as the originals, I've got a pair from the 50s and they still work beautifully. something about a guy using such a simple yet ingenuous tool to hold down a bolt while he cranks the nut on with his ratchet, then kicking off at 5pm to lynch some uppity bastards in the street just feels so cozy. i can practically feel the splash from the fire hoses when i hold those Grips.

I don't thrash my vehicle and it's not even lifted so I have about 10" of ground clearance. If you want to fit the biggest tires on your stock ifs without a ton of mods you should keep your stock wheels.
Most aftermarket wheels wont come in the same width and offset as stock toyota wheels.
I think you should be able to fit a 33 with stock wheels and a lift, maybe a UCA to limit rubbing on the body mount.
>>
Europoor here. Redpill me in the hilux pls.
I’m new to trucks and I don’t know whether or not it’s good and what trim I should look at
>>
>>27804736
>>27804776
nta but 33's are basically the upper limit of what you can fit without a lift, though they will be noticeably heavier and acceleration will lag a bit. depends on the tire model too, something like KO2 tends to rub more than a Grappler due to the sidewalls having those talons that hang out so far. people should also be wary of really pushing their stock CVs with heavier tires, as everything has been calibrated and tested with smaller/lighter tires that offer less resistance. it also limits your suspension travel the taller you go in a tire, so at max flex you may have rubbing issues even when the bump stop isn't engaged.

body lifts are gay btw, don't even bother.
>>
>anon tattles to the jannies
Lel
>>27805207
Keeping the tires more narrow should help clearances at full lock too.
A trd pro/2 inch lift should clear 33s at full flex right?
>>
>>27805240
good tires in OEM size is fine for "going places" unless you want to get into rock crawling and stuff

>>
>>27807492
i make a distinction between actual off-road packages and Sticker Packages ie Ford FX-4.
my package got me a 1" lift, 1" bigger tires, rear e-locker, and skid plates
>>
>>27807503
those are all good upgrades from stock, I guess it's just about pricing it out to see where you'd land if you did that stuff aftermarket/post purchase too

my vehicle came with a half decent upgrade kit like Bilstein 5100s, KO2s, e-locker, backup camera, and some other goodies but the stock armor was shit and the 5100s weren't adjusted to give any extra ride height so you'd have to disassemble the front/rear and raise them if you wanted a lift at all

I'm just running them until one asplodes and then I'll probably put a 2" OME or ICON kit on it
>>
>>27807515
The 5100 has a longer shaft length so they are technically a small lift just installing it

i don't know what the current Rubicon package is but the original got you upgraded front dif, lower transfer case ratio, and dif lockers front and rear. that is about the best package i can think of
>>
>>27807503
>Sticker Packages ie Ford FX-4.
Say what?
>tires
>shocks
>electronic locker
>steeper gear ratios
>hill decent mode
>rock crawl mode
>skid plates
>larger fuel tank
And there's specific components depending on model (ranger vs F250 etc) like digital.pitch & roll readouts in the gauge cluster.
>>
>>27807492
Not the case with the rubicon.
lockers front and rear with a sway bar disconnect and upgraded axles can be done to a sport for less.
>>
>>27789233
I need to go to the hardware store to pickup stuff to build a cradle to pull the shell off of my 4runner, but I'm being lazy.
>>
>>27807860

>>
>>27807876
If I can get a manual mojave for a good price id consider giving up the rubicons front locker and sway bar disconnect.
Rubicon fits my needs better but desu there arent many places you cant go with a rear locker.
>>
>>27807899
You should read up the comparisons and reviews on um. The Mojave was much more well received. If you want it purely for rock crawling a 2door is a better option.
Plus it's fun to have the option of a locker in 4hi or 4lo and going 50mph while locked in.

the first few years were SFA and then they switched to IFS forever

different companies have made swap kits over the years and IIRC you can transplant SFA from earlier years into later year 1st gens with IFS

fugg nigga you probably caught it in time if you shut off the engine when you saw your temp was too high

not even sure how that could happen unless you didn't tighten that hose clamp down enough

>tfw go wheelin on the weekend
>get home and pull up next to house
>there is now a rattling noise when the vehicle is stopped
>it disappears when I let off the brakes and start moving forward

god I hope it's just a loose bolt or heat shield or something...

yeah but I don't drive a Jeep I drive a Toyota. so that rattle probably means something has rusted enough to come loose, possibly to catastrophic effect.

i will have to crawl under it this week and figure out what it is before I put 1,000km on it for a big trip next week. if all else fails I'll do what I always do and just douse it with Fluid Film and turn up the radio so I can't hear the rattling.

The cleanest example or most upgraded example of whichever you can find for 7k
whichever one you think looks better.
whichever one you feel more comfortable working on.
whichever one is actually more comfortable for you to drive.
whichever one you can hoard parts for.
I'm not sure which one you can get more vehicle for for 7k in this market right now. That's a tough one.

whats a good underbody paint? im using gloss black enamel but it wears off
>>
>>27817143
all underbody paints will wear off, there's no really good one. best bet for longevity is to make sure your painted surface is as clean as possible from debris and rust, then use a really good rust-converting primer and build up a base of 2 coats. spray with a gloss enamel, give it 2-3 coats at least. if there's any particular areas that are really troublesome and wear prematurely, just give them a few extra coats, you can just build it up and it will make it more durable/less prone to chipping.

My truck (1995) still has factory paint on the underside of the cab and bed.
>>
>>27817241
>1995

that was pre-fagola VOC laws, newer paints all have to be compliant with stricter regulations that limit how much toxic shit they can have. new rules started coming into play mid-2000s, that's why some car paints of that era are notoriously bad (i.e. Mazda's "organic paint" that literally deteriorates on its own)

My jeep Cherokee has a 2" lift on it.
I need to fix my front suspension, but I'm not sure If I can just buy standard off the shelf parts kits from Rock Auto, or if I need to buy specialized parts for a lifted suspension.

Any tips?
>>
>>27820062
It depends on what parts you need to fix/replace. If it has a lift the shocks will be different as will the springs. If it's a body lift and just uses spacers on top of the shocks then everything is likely stock.
>>
>>27820074
Yeah it's just tie rods, ball joints, control arms. My shocks and springs are already upgraded.
>>
>>27820235
control arms might be different, sometimes people change them when they change their springs/shocks.

bushings should be the same, same with ball joints. tie rods should be fine too, they're adjustable to some extent.

best thing to do is just search for the "stock" parts online and compare them with what's on the vehicle; if they seem to match up then you're g2g.

(that balljoint looks fukt m8)
