Power steering pump go boom!So what you guys up to?
>>27789233i know that feel, was it the pump or just a line? i rigged mine with $30 in parts from NAPA and Home Depot 2 years ago and it's still holding together -galvanized shelf bracket-electrical conduit bracket bent to hold line-18" brake line from NAPA-bits of leftover radiator hose to splice it together-some concrete anchor sleeves to space out the bracket from the fender-stainless hose clampsi also have a C-clamp holding a coolant line bracket to the frame and a piece of wood spacing my battery in the tray.

>>27789233Mines about to boom too
>>27789254Pump failed. The pully bearing went and grinded into the pump before lockup all in about 5 secs while i was on the interstate. I just hope it didnt damage the rack.
>>27789397>pully bearing went and grinded into the pump before lockup all in about 5 secs while i was on the interstateah that's lame, if you pulled off quickly the rack is probably OK tho
>>27789558Yeah i pulled over and got it towed. Just waiting to hear back about it.
Does Auscunts actually offroad or are these guys just a huge meme?
Well lucky me the rack was fine was just the pump. Still cost too damn much because i had to have it flushed.
>>27790181at least ur bb isn't kill 4 gud tho, most fags would've rekt out the second they lost power steering on a highway
>>27790188It wasn't that bad. Now whets fun is when your truck stalls and it has hydro boost brakes and you got to put it into the median not to rear end a mini van. lolNow I'm wonder how well my jeep will do with a trailer. Been thinking of moving back to VA.
>>27790202Virginia is one of the worst places to drive, why would you want to live there? The cops are all complete fags and the people are largely incestuous and it's a blue state.
>>27790210I know i moved away over 3 years ago. I just find things boring out here. And i miss late night salt water fishing. I would setup a LLC before i left anyways and keep MT tags on my shit. Because i have permeant tags and we don't have inspections or PP taxes on our cars here.
>>27790229idk what people mean when they say boring unless they live in Iowa, MT has tons of cool areas to explore and go innawoods and while it doesn't have quite the same forests as VA it also doesn't have nearly the amount of leftist cuck faggot bootlicking cunts either idk i guess i'm at an age where i just dislike people enough that i actually go out of my way to live apart from them and only want to be near like-minded individuals. call it an echo chamber but i'm sick of trannies and nogs.
>>27790254Im in the more boring part of the state. Im still just thinking about it. One reason is i cant afford this apt on my own. And finding a room mate out here is hard as fuck for some reason. I have a place in VA to go to that isn't bad if i choose but yeah i really don't fucking like VB. Also thing has gone a bit nutty around here that i carry again while in town. Didn't do that when i first moved here. But hey you want to move im looking for room mate lol.

Aluminum skid plates or steel? Steel is cheaper but rust....but aluminum dent easier and they're lighter. Seeking opinions. pic unrelated.
>>27799797its kinda annoying having to paint mine every oil change
>>27799818Was thinking it might be good to plasti dip spray them, it seems pretty resilient.
>>27799822plasti-dip isn't going to hold up to rocks scraping it, anon
>>27799825But what will, short of Line-X'ing it? I mean you shouldn't really be SCRAPING your skids all the time, rarely should you come down on one. I get stone chips would cause some damage but how often are you dragging the truck right onto the plates?
>>27799832i scrape mine all the time because i'm keeping my truck stock height with OEM sized tires. there's some gnarly trails (for a stock truck) to my camp spots.in my opinion, the best coating would probably be powder coating
>>27799797Aluminimum takes exactly 1 hit before breaking. Good for softroading but if trail rig go steel>>27799818Sounds like youre not leaking enough oil
>>27799841+1 thanks for the info, all good stuff as I'm running some really thin stock steel ones but they're rusted to fuck and one has a hole in it now. Will probably go steel honestly, ARB makes a nice set for $750 that covers my engine, pan, tranny, and transfer case.>>27799865This is my concern, aluminum could dent easily and push up into something causing secondary damage. Luckily my truck has pissed and shidded enough oil, tranny fluid, and power steering fluid all over itself that most of its is rust-proofed. Another cooler line or oil recirculator blowing out should cover off my skid plates.
>>27799880$750? jesus that seems like a lot of money. Can't you find a truck that has the skid plates in a junkyard?
>>27799886Not a lot of FJ Cruisers that end up in junkyards, normally they're repairable or they're such a horrific writeoff that there's nothing salvageable. Plus 90% of the time when a truck with aftermarket mods goes to an auction after an accident it's scooped up, parts are stripped, and then sold individually on eBay by bodyshops/pajeets. I saw one FJ in a scrapyard ever and it was a purple 2007 that had rolled multiple times, not even sure there was a single part to be saved on it.https://www.actiontrucks.com/product-detail/ARB5421100/under-vehicle-protection?gad_source=1Many companies want $500-700 just for a front plate because they're just made in small batches by some guy in his garage. I think ARB makes them in bigger volume so they can bring down the price a bit, $750 is the cheapest I could find for this much protection.
>>27799904Hi Marty.....er, Martinez
>>27799937The way brown people obsess over Toyotas makes them very unappealing to me, in addition to their other issues The only people that ever compliment my 85 Toyota are literal landscapers working on my house or Mexicans when I grab lunch at a taco spot, they’re constantly eye raping it
>>27797544"Allen" is a brand name. It's like saying "vice grips" for locking pliers or "channel locks" for slip joint water pump pliers"Hex key" is proper nomenclature.>Published advertisements for the "Allen safety set screw" by the Allen Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut, exist from 1910.
Brehs I’ll be doing a little US road trip this winter. What car do I want for the ultimate murica experience? V8 is a given.
>>27799962To be fair, most white Americans who like Toyotas aren't fags who drool over other peoples' property, they're just normal individuals who appreciate a good product. If you're looking for strange men to really dickride you about your trugg you should get a lifted RAM, you'll be swarmed by shrimpdick manlets in flat brimmed snapbacks demanding to know what low profile tires you're running on your 23" wheels.
>>277999971.) You should only own Vise Grip brand Vise Grips, everything else is a shitty derivative that is less ergonomic and inferior quality.2.) You should only ever refer to them as Vise Grips, calling them locking pliers is retard shit.3.) Channel Locks are synonymous with adjustable pliers but commonly people mistake them as an "adjustable wrench". Calling them Channel Locks makes it more clear what you're talking about.4.) Hex key sounds like some gay wizard shit.5.) If Allen invented it they get to be its namesake, like how we refer to your illness as Asperger's in honor of the guy who discovered it.
>>27800035holy kek. btfo
>>27800035 "vice grip" is now owned by Stanley and are trash.Knipex make superior slip-joint pliers (so do multiple other companies). If you know someone who refers to channel locks as an "adjustable wrench" then they are retards. And retards usually hang out with other retards so that says a lot about you.If you can accept "hex head bolt" but "hex key" reminds you of some fantasy RPG then you more than likely have the mentality of a 12 year old and should probably just sit down and shut the fuck up while adults are having a discussion
>>27800260>"vice" grip>viceTough luck pal, but you just invalidated your entire post with that spelling mistake. I don't make the rules chum, but I will point them out.
>>27800035channellocks are a specific type of adjustable pliars that is also a brand name but accurately describes how the tool functions compared to other adjustables. it's not okay to call adjustable pliars channel locks unless they literally have the channel locks
>>27800301I would never own anything but Channel Locks, so we have no quarrel.
>>27799880The ARB set is below average I'd look at other options first.
>>27800035>1.The Eagle ones are built on OG VG specs
>>27800629yeah but they don't have that OG heritage and branding, and that has to count for something. new Vise Grips are just as heavily built as the originals, I've got a pair from the 50s and they still work beautifully. something about a guy using such a simple yet ingenuous tool to hold down a bolt while he cranks the nut on with his ratchet, then kicking off at 5pm to lynch some uppity bastards in the street just feels so cozy. i can practically feel the splash from the fire hoses when i hold those Grips.
>>27800625I've looked at other options but I'm not in the market to spend $2,000 on underbelly armour, that's just way more heavy duty than I'd really need. I don't thrash my vehicle and it's not even lifted so I have about 10" of ground clearance. I'm just looking for something to replace the rotted OEM plates that adds a bit of extra coverage without breaking the bank. I'm already gonna have to spend $2300 on tires soon...

Most aftermarket wheels wont come in the same width and offset as stock toyota wheels. I think you should be able to fit a 33 with stock wheels and a lift, maybe a UCA to limit rubbing on the body mount.
Europoor here. Redpill me in the hilux pls. I’m new to trucks and I don’t know whether or not it’s good and what trim I should look at
>>27804736>>27804776nta but 33's are basically the upper limit of what you can fit without a lift, though they will be noticeably heavier and acceleration will lag a bit. depends on the tire model too, something like KO2 tends to rub more than a Grappler due to the sidewalls having those talons that hang out so far. people should also be wary of really pushing their stock CVs with heavier tires, as everything has been calibrated and tested with smaller/lighter tires that offer less resistance. it also limits your suspension travel the taller you go in a tire, so at max flex you may have rubbing issues even when the bump stop isn't engaged. body lifts are gay btw, don't even bother.
>anon tattles to the janniesLel>>27805207Keeping the tires more narrow should help clearances at full lock too. A trd pro/2 inch lift should clear 33s at full flex right?

>>27807458majority of factory offroad packages are pretty lame and need to have most stuff upgraded anyways, better off buying a lower trim model and putting the extra money towards non-OEM upgrades IMO
>>27807492i make a distinction between actual off-road packages and Sticker Packages ie Ford FX-4.my package got me a 1" lift, 1" bigger tires, rear e-locker, and skid plates
>>27807503those are all good upgrades from stock, I guess it's just about pricing it out to see where you'd land if you did that stuff aftermarket/post purchase toomy vehicle came with a half decent upgrade kit like Bilstein 5100s, KO2s, e-locker, backup camera, and some other goodies but the stock armor was shit and the 5100s weren't adjusted to give any extra ride height so you'd have to disassemble the front/rear and raise them if you wanted a lift at allI'm just running them until one asplodes and then I'll probably put a 2" OME or ICON kit on it
>>27807515The 5100 has a longer shaft length so they are technically a small lift just installing it
>>27793225>Drive on a camp trail road in Zion NP to own the chuds Woah
>>27807458Why? This thing does fine and is very comfy n capable without having to do anything besides different tires
>>27807492i don't know what the current Rubicon package is but the original got you upgraded front dif, lower transfer case ratio, and dif lockers front and rear. that is about the best package i can think of
>>27807503>Sticker Packages ie Ford FX-4.Say what?>tires>shocks>electronic locker>steeper gear ratios>hill decent mode>rock crawl mode>skid plates>larger fuel tankAnd there's specific components depending on model (ranger vs F250 etc) like digital.pitch & roll readouts in the gauge cluster.
>>27807492Not the case with the rubicon. lockers front and rear with a sway bar disconnect and upgraded axles can be done to a sport for less.
>>27789233I need to go to the hardware store to pickup stuff to build a cradle to pull the shell off of my 4runner, but I'm being lazy.
>>27807860And the Mojave has a strengthened frame, stronger steering knuckles, thicker rear axle, and more.
>>27807876If I can get a manual mojave for a good price id consider giving up the rubicons front locker and sway bar disconnect. Rubicon fits my needs better but desu there arent many places you cant go with a rear locker.
>>27807899You should read up the comparisons and reviews on um. The Mojave was much more well received. If you want it purely for rock crawling a 2door is a better option. Plus it's fun to have the option of a locker in 4hi or 4lo and going 50mph while locked in. Also I've heard nothing good about the standards in the newer jeeps.
>>27807845oh shit ok that's a lot different than the FX4 package that comes with the F150. I assumed they would be the same
>>27807911Theres an recall of the clutch, but i fully intend on replacing it with a better clutch anyway.
>>27807899front locker is a meme unless you're rock crawling and mud bogging, never once have I needed it and my truck is IFS with a SRA e-locker in the back

>>278079112 door is the best option, but i want 4 doors and a bed for throwing dead elk in the back. Im deff gonna need to look at the frame reinforcements on the mojave, primarily cost of the vehicle is going to determine which one I buy but I bet cut to size reinforcement plates are out there to weld on other trims.
>>27808025rwd w/ locker on ice is extremely unpredictable. you can end up sideways very easily - i don't care what tires you're running. I don't think any manufacturer makes that setup, for good reason
>>27808040Another reason I got the Mojave was it was a lot cheaper than the rubicons. Snagged mine for under msrp in 2020
>>27808044Im shopping used, mojave has been around since 22?Chances are ill fine a cheaper rubicon over a mojave, thanks for the info tho anon I wasnt even considering a mojave before.
>>27808080It's more of a what you're looking to do kinda thing. I don't rock crawl so it was a lil more easy for me. Plus the cheaper factor was nice.If you have any specific questions I'll attempt to answer. Tho I r not smart

>>27797235>>27797237oh man i remember reading that thread. one reason why people always said to get the oem ball joints on these particular trucks - the oem ones were built tough enough that there were plenty of warning signs to replace it before it failed catastrophically, while aftermarket ones were a lot less forgiving about it.>>27808312>>27808348would one be able to retrofit the 03-onwards designs? i know there's an aftermarket lbj upgrade out there that makes it so the joint won't catastrophically fail but always wondered if one could get the parts from the later models and retrofit to them
What are my options for a more compact off-roader? Something premium quality. Trucks are too huge for my purposes, also don’t like how rounded and curvy they are
>>27808365the OEM ones were all-metal because Toyota knew about the a-arm design that put immense stress on the ball-joint. the aftermarket didn't know about the a-arm design and had plastic inside the joint

>>27808581Yeah, some of those are more difficult to find than others. If you can find a really clean ZJ, those were luxury. If you want the v8, you'll want to swap the transfer case to the inline 6 transfer case. It had some nice trim levels like the Orvis and limited. Hard mode is finding a clean 1998 5.9 limited.
>>27808647Had a zj v8 back in the day. Was fun inna woods but was a rattly plastic piece of shit.

>>27801880whats a good underbody paint? im using gloss black enamel but it wears off
>>27817143all underbody paints will wear off, there's no really good one. best bet for longevity is to make sure your painted surface is as clean as possible from debris and rust, then use a really good rust-converting primer and build up a base of 2 coats. spray with a gloss enamel, give it 2-3 coats at least. if there's any particular areas that are really troublesome and wear prematurely, just give them a few extra coats, you can just build it up and it will make it more durable/less prone to chipping.
>>27817165My truck (1995) still has factory paint on the underside of the cab and bed.
>>27817241>1995that was pre-fagola VOC laws, newer paints all have to be compliant with stricter regulations that limit how much toxic shit they can have. new rules started coming into play mid-2000s, that's why some car paints of that era are notoriously bad (i.e. Mazda's "organic paint" that literally deteriorates on its own)

My jeep Cherokee has a 2" lift on it. I need to fix my front suspension, but I'm not sure If I can just buy standard off the shelf parts kits from Rock Auto, or if I need to buy specialized parts for a lifted suspension. Any tips?
>>27820062It depends on what parts you need to fix/replace. If it has a lift the shocks will be different as will the springs. If it's a body lift and just uses spacers on top of the shocks then everything is likely stock.
>>27820074Yeah it's just tie rods, ball joints, control arms. My shocks and springs are already upgraded.
>>27820235control arms might be different, sometimes people change them when they change their springs/shocks. bushings should be the same, same with ball joints. tie rods should be fine too, they're adjustable to some extent. best thing to do is just search for the "stock" parts online and compare them with what's on the vehicle; if they seem to match up then you're g2g.(that balljoint looks fukt m8)
