Last question edition >>27810382

I need to get my Miata engine sutter, and cooling issues resolved this weekend.

It's top down weather, how's your Miata running?
What can be done to help prevent sweaty back with leather seats?
Any LE owners?

Excellently. NC2 is a very reliable Miata.
>What can be done to help prevent sweaty back with leather seats?
Leather is inferior to cloth. My Miata has leather but I wish it didn't.

Buy better seats.

Hard to say, since the color is close I'm afraid it could clash if the tones are wrong. I think it would probably be cool though.

Op here. How do I fix this idling issue.
New fuel pump, new fuel filter, new used injectors, sent out for a cleaning, new wires, new Bosch coil, new ignitor, no vacuum leaks, 93 octane, new spark plugs, good compression on all 4, replaced many plugs, fixed bad wiring from swap.
Only intake not replaced, but everything looks good.
It's a 1.8 from a 1999 inside an NA6 running on 1.6 ECU.

Maita forums said that only a standalone in my case would make the idle fine. Something about the 1.6 ECU and 1.8 engine not getting along.

There is also a stutter that I'm trying to replicate.

Kraken GT2560R Turbo kit at 12psi

There's easily more power in this build but I want to keep it safe on a stock block, flat torque curve makes it feel like a NA Miata.

Currently adjusting my wiring and getting a superdamper installed to improve engine longevity and the crank.

It's worth every penny to swap bad connectors, and clean up the wires.
Buy good quality electrical tools. This is where 99% of your skill goes to.
Buy good wire
Buy marine shrink
Buy good wire wrap
Don't solder on cars. Use proper crimps.
Buy these by the roll

So far tests on autobahn showed:
212km/h with top down and 220 with top up.
And at speed feels like with top up, there's more wind noise and louder.
Also I'm 194cm and fit perfectly even idk if I need seat lowering kit.

how do i make my miata drift easier ?
I have a 1.8l vvt NB2 with the torsen, i've already installed a set of tein flex Z coilovers and a "destroy or die" angle kit
I have a lot of camber in the front and as little as possible in the back, i think I have some toe in in the back tho maybe i should 0 it? also the back is 10mm lower than the front.
Before I installed the angle kit the car was very easy to drift but now its a little understeery and i have to throw it really hard to make it drift

this >>27829331 and this >>27829380. I had Pilot Sport 3's all around and could only just about initiate a drift by being quite aggressive and using a clutch kick, unless it was damp or raining. Only mod I have are coilovers and 30 year old dry rotted suspension bushes.

yesterday I've adjusted my front dampers, they were at the stiffest setting by default so i softened them, it handles way better now, i can't believe i didn't do this sooner, I didn't even need a tool its adjustable by hand.
it's still hard to drift in wide corners tho, it doesn't feel understeery anymore but there is a lot of grip in the back still even though I set the tire pressure to 50 psi, i think its due to my car height being set 10mm lower in the back, i will raise the back probably to the same height as the front and see if it improves

>>27829630
I use to be able to drift just fine on stock suspension (it was the bilstein ones) but the car was too high and i didn't have enough angle and would 180 every now and then (skill issue I admit)
i think the stock angle was about 30° now with the angle kit plus spacers its about 50° with less ackermann
but yeah on stock suspension i could initiate the drift just by coming "too fast" on purpose into a corner and just simply brake and it was enough to get the car to oversteer. I 've read somewhere that the stock height on the nb miata has the rear higher than the front so its probably why it was so oversteery and also one of the reasons why the wheel self corrected so easly compared to my current setting even tho i have more caster now

there’s not much else to say. the rest depends on how well you know your car. fix up whatever issues it may have if possible. i don’t know if your NA burns oil or not. i don’t know if your wheel bearings are fucked. besides that, it’s probably best you keep the ac off for as long as you can handle it. this little shit really really really hates when that’s running.

If it's just cheap shitty thin wall steel or aluminium, it will need more than simple stability, it'll just bend in half and fold over you regardless. Sorry if this sounds like I'm giving you a hard time, obviously you run whatever you want to, the chances of you ever rolling are probably very slim, but I just wanted you to be fully aware of that not only will those not help if you roll, but they also lower you and your passenger's chances of survival quite dramatically.

Pic rel and in this video too, both on NAs, they even tower over the seats(!)
It's not that I'm unconcerned but I think the mousetrap risk is bigger for NAs and whatever clowncar-sized style bars they thought were the right proportions. I can also make sure these will be rigid.

If you don't know the last time the timing belt was done, do that with the tensioner and idler pulleys, a gates water pump, cam and crank seals, PCV valve grommet, and valve cover gasket. Other than that, the oil pan (PITA), rear main seal (also a PITA), and CAS o ring (you'll need to be comfortable with adjusting its timing) are about the only other places for oil to leak out of. Replace power steering and coolant hoses if they're bulging, rotten, or otherwise damaged, and replace the radiator ASAP if the plastic tanks are turning brown, before it explodes and strands you. At 230k there might be play in suspension joints and bushings, and the struts are definitely toast if they're original, take care of those as necessary. While you're underneath it, clean out the soft top drains, they're in front of the rear tires, above the rocker panels. Change out the rear differential fluid, transmission fluid, and shifter turret fluid too, and do a shifter rebuild kit while you're there if it's gotten sloppy. The transmission takes 2 quarts of GL-4 (I recommend Redline MTL) and the diff takes 1 quart of GL-5 (I recommend Redline 75w90). The shifter turret will be happy with about 3 ounces of whatever gear oil, it's not picky.

Oh and brake hoses have a service life of about 20-25 years before they like to crumble internally and turn into one way valves, so the brake fluid can't leave the caliper when you let off the brake pedal, locking up the caliper. I'd recommend replacing them (preferably stainless braided ones for better pedal feel) before they do that

literally anything. these cars are ancient but today’s standards and it’s best you learn your own motor’s ins and outs instead of coming to 4chan and asking all the bus riders and wrenchlets anything. heavily inspect it when it’s running for the first few minutes, inspect it before and after you park it, get a flashlight in there and really give it a good look. spray off any sludge with brake cleaner and inspect it again later. but don’t throw ice cold water at the mess if the block is hot. Nice AEZs, which ones are those?
>>
>>27836342
Yeah i admit i suck at suspension tuning but i thought since the car has a short wheelbase adding some toe in in the rear would sort of emulate a longer wheelbase if that makes sense.
My coilovers came with the rear lower than the front when i bought them, and think i've seen an interview of naoki nakamura where he says he does that so i left it like that. But yesterday i raised the back 10mm so the front and rear are level now.

And for the front camber I don't think thats excessive, the tires seem to use evenly and ive seen a lot of people running crazy front camber on drift miatas.
also with the extended lower control arms I have i can't reduce camber at the upper wishbone without pulling the wheel arch, and if I reduce camber at the lower control arm the wheel will touch the sway bar at full lock. I could just run spacers in the front but ive already tried that and it adds to much bump steer
plus i think it looks cool lol

How to setup a miata for street drifting:
>Torsen (you've got it)
>Solid rear sway bar
>Crappy tires, like under $50 crappy
That's it, the fucker will slide the moment you even think about sliding, you can even oversteer by tapping the brake with a steering flick then mashing the throttle (it's dangerous). All that suspension and angle kit shit is for track drifting where you're going like 70mph into a corner. Sliding fully around corners at normal street speeds (say 25mph) takes a lot less modding.
>>
>>27840082
>Solid rear sway bar
what do you mean by solid ? is it just how its called or is it different from a regular rear sway bar?
>you can even oversteer by tapping the brake with a steering flick then mashing the throttle (it's dangerous).
I do it that way but i left foot brake and instead of mashing the throttle, I start applying it smoothly before im done releasing the brake. its more precise that way but i admit sometimes the brake pedal becomes hard probably because it causes them to overheat
>All that suspension and angle kit shit is for track drifting where you're going like 70mph into a corner.
I decided to get an angle kit because one day i did drift going 130 kmh in a corner but it was unintentional, i went full lock and still ended up on the opposite lane. also i 180ed a bunch of times and i think its dangerous to 180 on public roads. so basically i got an angle kit more for safety than angle

If you're just dallying it then that's fine, but don't forget that the stickier the tyre, the faster you can stop, which I'd argue is a pretty valid reason. Regardless, my personal reason for sticky tyres is that I occasionally track mine and want to be faster in the corners. I can usually out-pace or at least keep up with any other "street" car on track days, but I fall just short of the track prepped M3's and Caterhams. Pulling more G's in a corner is also pretty fun itself, it makes you feel like you're on a roller coaster.
