Cheap,
uses less fuel,
light -> less wear for the road and other infrastructure,
space efficient for something that is stationary 90% of the time,
high top speed,
quick acceleration,
park anywhere,
cheap maintenace,
easy maintencance compared to a car,
less complex,
usually better engineered than cars from my experiance,
can carry 1 additional person,
don't drive 4 empty seats and a trunk around,
gives race car performance for the average joe,
motorcycle industry is at it's peak rn where cars are on the down trend,
fuel injection makes modern bikes very reliable,
when you have an offroad bike you can literally go ANYWHERE
you can go on adventures and reach places that never saw a car.
hella fun

-safety is shit
-exposed to weather which can be nice in summer but is moststy a downside

Maintenance is cheap per instance, and possibly easier than a car, but its much much more frequent, and if you're riding regularly will cost more annually.

Everything else I agree with.

Yes, they have very good MPG, are inexpensive, can also go very fast relative to many cars. However, they are more dangerous and harder to drive.
>>
>>27829130
The reason for good fuel efficiency and speed is that it is very light relative to cars and only has two wheels, also the reason for the low cost. A Corolla weights about 3,000 pounds for example, a dual sport weighs about 300 pounds.
>>
>>27829123
also the tires wear qucker but I think it's still cheaper espeically with low cc's. A 125 fuel injected honda doesn't go under 100mpg

A 250cc bike with road wheels can go off-road bikes can do hills and trails, 450cc can go over 100, both are legal for the highway which is a big thing. You need enough horsepower to ride legally on the highway at highway speeds.
>>
>>27829155
>A 250cc bike with road wheels can go over 80*, off-road bikes can do hills and trails.
You can't go long distances on the highway without enough horsepower to ride legally on the highway
>>
>>27828345
That will out accelerate the vast majority of cars on the road.

the point is that you need enough cc's to ride the highway in 450cc, otherwise you can't in other countries but trials and hills are a big thing. they're just unusual.

A liquid cooled 250 dual-sport sold in the US right now can achieve mid-80s mph on flat ground, and hold somewhere between 60-70 on a sharp uphill grade. Where is this "you need a 450" mindset coming from, are you from 30 years ago?
>>
>>27829176
>A liquid cooled 250 dual-sport sold in the US right now can achieve mid-80s mph on flat ground, and hold somewhere between 60-70 on a sharp uphill grade.
You are aware there are U.S. interstates with 75-85mph speedlimits, right? Pretending that screaming along at top speed is viable way to travel is just about pants on head retarded.
>>
>>27829178
You have now backpedaled from "legally" to "viably".
>>
>>27829176
a crf is over 125 but in speed with the off road community. in my country is on legal speeds and a honda top off. you don't normally gas up and top off in the country side. but that's not with the MPG they suggested
>>
>>27829180
I'm not that same guy. I just think it's pants on head retarded to pretend that anyone would want to ride at max rpm for untold amounts of time on the highway. It's literal cope/retardation.
>>
>>27829187
They'll do a 55mph road all day, I agree the interstate would be torture. I just want him to admit he's backpedaling.

sub 600cc for poorfags to get around, anything above that is for fun
you should try it, might make your life better

Anyone who argues motorcycles have good gas mileage will, without a doubt, leave out the fact that you will be refueling the fucking thing all the goddamn time because it rinses through its tiny fuel tank in no time. Unless you are on a touring bike going in a straight fucking line at one speed your bike WILL run out of gas quickly in the city.

This entire post does not apply to mopeds/scooters.
>>
>>27829240
And? I commute on mine, gas station is right after the exit from the freeway. Pull up, gloves off, tap card, less than a minute to pump 2.7 gallons in, gloves on, reset trip odometer, wow that was such an inconvenience to do once extra per week.
>>
I would kill myself if I couldn’t ride
>>
>>27829240
that doesn't make any sense.
if a bike gives you 50 mpg and a car gives you 30 mpg
it doesn't matter how many times you need to refill, you are using more gas per mileage on a car and thus buying more gas
>>
>>27828345
they are faster and more fun to ride.

It is true, a lot of motorcycles/mopeds are not highway legal. You can also split lanes in some cases while cars are stuck in traffic.

I have a CRF300L and I've done it quite a bit. Why isn't it viable? People always say this but I think it's fine. Just go in the right lane and chill. You never need to go faster than the speed limit for any reason, as long as you're not blocking anybody else. Wear ear plugs if the ugly sound bothers you, you should be wearing them anyway.

fwiw though I think the relative ease of maintenance makes up for some of that, the consumables might cost more but you're not paying for labor that might be an issue if, like me, you don't have a decent place to work on a car.

>>27829155
I know 250s and 300s can work on the highway in some areas but it'd be suicide where I live, people do 70+ in the right lane constantly with minimal spacing between cars and the onramps are very short here, and we've also got lots of places where you have to merge from dead stopped lanes into 60+ ones, again with very little gap between cars. You really need something that can do 0-60 in 7 or 8 seconds tops to be safe.

you're not wrong, my grom gets 2.03L/100km or 115mpg. it's only a 5.5L tank so it's not like I can go for long ass distances without filling up but a realistic 250km/155miles is a very reasonable amount of range out of a bike that maxes out at just over 100km/h or like 62mph

Most bikes need valve adjustments every 12k, you don't do this on most cars. Its also very expensive on some bikes. It was an all day thing for me on my Daytona the last time I did it.

Sports tires only last for 5-10k miles at most, some car tires you can do 10-15k, that means more frequent tire changes and taking a wheel off most bikes is way more intensive and needs special jacks vs that of a car.

Granted if you manage it correctly and don't ride that much its inexpensive than daily use of a car, but if you're putting as much mileage as that of a car annually then the cars going to typically be cheaper to maintain.
