Because a 4-cylinder in a RWD sport-luxury sedan is kind of meh. Such things generally call for the power and refinement a 6-cyl or more can bring.
4-cyl feels more right in a hot hatch but BMW doesn’t bring those to the U.S. for some dumb reason.

This happens to be the main reason. A 325i is super easy to find, cheap, still very well balanced, comes with over 50 extra hp. Even pretty decent on fuel. Very popular in RCN, NLS, Nordschleife trackdays etc, the baltics also have a racing series for these cars

This thing ONLY existed to make the E90 a better touring car, it's (sadly) useless otherwise
