automobile design peaked in the 80s and 90s
>>27829166I have a theory that the overall 80s mindset and design was peak, which is the reason why so much of today is inspired by it. Take synthwave music, utopian/dystopian movies being inspired by 80s imagery, or even Stranger Things being such an inspirational series to so many people.I'm really curious what will be the next era, which will be imitated for decades to come.
>>2782918280s was the peak for supercars90s was peak for normal vehicles
>>27829166Only for German and Japanese cars. The 80’s and 90’s produced some of the ugliest Italian and American cars. And all cars from 2000-2015 are ugly.
>>27829166These are really starting to grow on my, especially when you get rid of the stock 4x4 ride height.
>>27829182great economy, cold war, nuclear anxiety, cocaine fuelled excess and maximalism led to a surplus of marketing material and propaganda passed off as culture and creativity which gets recycled year after year to get maximum ROI for production costs. and you keep falling for it.
>>27829199Is dis some Sonoma?
>>27829200>despite everything, the 70's were the real last great decade80's were when the average person went batshit insane and we've never recovered
Safety Standards ruined cars.
>>27829247>I'll post it againcars SHOULD be boxy and spiky and square, but also have great visibilityif a pedestrian impales themselves on a hood ornament because they couldn't fucking look before they wandered across the parking lot it's THEIR fault and THEY should have to pay for staining YOUR car's hood.>get rid of tall as fuck hoods, they're stupid and hard to see over>get rid of soft soapbar fronts>bring back popups, big bumpers, and hood ornaments>get rid of 9-inch-thick A pillars you can't see shit with em>integrate NON-INTERNET-CONNECTED dash cameras into the rearview mirror to catch stupid wigger zoomers commiting insurance fraud via stupidity
>>27829184is that the 850? a guy just moved into my dads neighborhood with one its so cool and rare

>>27829166>N/A engines>Manual transmission came standard on many models>Sensible use of electronics for things like fuel injection >Shapes that didn't assault the senses>Comfy interiors>Great visibility Yes, it was a very good time for cars. We didn't know how good we had it, or rather how much worse it would get...
The fisher price eraThe real era was 1920-34
>>27829611not 35 though, right? thats when it all went downhill
>>27829166It did. Design has worsened in service of "safety". Nobody wants a vehicle that looks like this 2021 suburban. It's ugly. It's fucking ugly, objectively.
>>27829196this is so gay
>>27829209No
>>27829626Yeah 33 was obviously superior to 35+ No one hardly even remembers 34s
>>27829166Pic unrelated, right? One of the ugliest 3 series by far, it peaked with the E30.>>27829182Your theory is mostly correct.
>>27830215how could you say this
>>27829166yeah
>>27830226every sedan in that pic was raced in touring car racing at some point.

>>27830222It doesn't even look like a real BMW with those stupid headlights. E30 was the superior design, aesthetically pure.

>>27829166Every decade had its highs and lows. Claiming that a single decade is better or worse is arguing about biased personal preferences which is very immature.

>>27830226>>27832426>watch a movie from the 90s>cars actually look normal and not like pigfat eyesores
>>27833649probably, mine had problem with automatic gearbox up-shifting very roughly into second gear and the battery going flat over night when the cars parked up.interior wear also, thin leather seats cracked up and the trip computer display flaking out a bit, only slight problems really.I think the main problem is the expense and expertise of the repairs. good youtube channel showing common bmw repairs is M539 Restorations.
>>27833779This
>>27829166bmw e32. BMW head designer Adrian Van Hoydonkydonk once called it the most iconic bmw design. mean. aggressive. sexy. I might be in the minority but i think it looks better than the e38.
>>27829166Honestly goals for my alfa project
I'd say pretty well all cars before 2010 (yes, even 2000s bubbles), look nicer than cars now. Probably due to safety standards. All cars are practically required to adhere to specific shapes, so all manufacturers can do to make their car designs unique is to add random lines, curves, and headlight designs onto them.
>>27832711>>27833604You've got this character archetype down to a tee
Objectively, cars from the 90s are the best in terms of design and this is because there are many cars from this era with a design that is timeless today. There are many nice cars from the 60s, but you can tell that these are classic cars, cars from the 90s are just cars.

Jeets LOVE these BMWs, i always seem them driving around in these 80s-90s bmws.
