My shitbox is approaching 300k miles, transmission is starting to stick, along with other problems that come with age. I've given up on the used car market, and I'm considering doing an engine swap at this point. Thinking about sticking a 1UZ in there, or a 2 UZ if it'll fit. Anyone have experience with engine swaps? What should I be cautious of?

Just google UZ swaps it's been done a lot.
>>27829368yes
>>27829306How about you give me your shit box for 500 dollars if you're so eager to swap it's bulletproof engine.

>>27829306The alternative is much easier is every single scenario. Even if you do a low buck swap, everything else will on the truck will need to be addressed at some point in time for that age/mileage

>>27829243>transmission is starting to stickI have 2 of them anon.First step is to check if you are actually retarded and just need check ATF levels.Second step is to pull the ECT fuse and see how it shifts without the computer.Personally I wouldn't get rid of the 5VZ. Yes I know they detuned it to hell, but that's the reason it still good after 300k miles. It's a good industrial engine.>I got a side fun car for more fast with all the money saved up by not needing to buy new dailies for quarter of a century.>picrel, reaping the soul of a pigfat eggshit mcdonalds troonverse monocock
I never understood the trepidation about mileage on cars. If you swap the engine and transmission out, which admittedly is a big expense, and you do the work yourself, there's no reason you can't drive that fucker indefinitely. Or at least until the undercarriage rusts out.

>>27829243>3rd gen 1UZ swapfor the IFS you'll want the LS400 rear front sump oil pan. If using a factory harness, the capacitors in the factory ECU probably need to be replaced. if going to manual, you'll need the KSRacing bellhousing/flywheel kit from ebay or a plate adapter from someone else. Headers fit across all UZ engines. tundra cheapies off of ebay fit tight against the block, but might need to be modified a little.here's some swap resourceshttps://www.mywireshop.com/https://toy468.com/https://www.northwesttoysllc.com/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6WTbC3ikYEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJBEIol7KqAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEFPhO1yrt8https://www.toyota-4runner.org/classic-t4rs/111863-1989-4runner-1uzfe-swap.htmlhttps://www.lextreme.com/forums/threads/1uzfe-2uzfe-into-a-2nd-gen-4runner-u-s.2367/https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f161/1uz-fe-into-93-pickup-r150f-ifs-223018/index2.htmlhttps://www.yotatech.com/forums/f161/1uz-fe-faq-swap-guide-84-89-4runner-pickup-254638/

I miss the toyota general

>>27831992Tranny hasn't failed, but I know it's getting there and I think a v8 in a gen 3 would be cool.Nigger>>27832097Changed coolant like 3 weeks ago, it's Gucci
>>27832366How often do you really find intact engines at a junk yard though? I visited one last week and saw two mexicans beating on a Camaro with a mallet.
>>27832499the engine in my jeep was pulled from the junk yard and runs great, came from a Jetta I got the extended warranty for like 20 bucks extra which means if it's bad you get your money backtook it home and started it up on the cherry picker and it ran like a top picrel
>>27832506I guess it depends on the yard then, because every single engine I saw was either corroded beyond belief or ravaged by thirdies.
>>27832523I get alerts when cars I want drop, usually the alert comes around 7 or 8am, I'm at the yard before noon, I drop everything I'm doing and immediately grab my tools to be the first one thereI've gotten multiple engines and transmissions this way, if you wait even a day you'll miss it, you need to immediately drop everything and hit the yard without delay
>>27832523It depends on the vehicle as well. Some random domestic will sit there untouched for days. Any Toyota will be stripped down to the frame within the day it arrives, like a carcass being dipped into a school or immigrant piranhas.
>>27832499sometimes you get lucky. can pull out an engine that looks like absolute shit, corrosion/weathering all over the exterior, but the innards are fucking mint, everything in spec, still turns over smoothly etc. etc.
>>27832531Your kung fu is just stronger. I couldn't imagine trying to pull an engine solo.
