What are you working on anons?
developed a process of replacing the broken cable for my e brake for about $25 rather than toss and replace the whole assembly (handle and all) for $200+ as every guide on the Internet will tell you to do, because they're all from a decade ago when you could still get them used for cheap or brand new at the dealer.
>pushing bearing out with shop press>tab for brake caliper snaps off
Replaced rear plate lamp bulb. My rate is $90 btw if you need my expertise for this monster job.
when i put the fuel pump in the mustang i thought it was odd it didnt have a return line, and not even a regulator inside the tank. did some googling and its pwm controlled by the pcm. well fuck that narrows down the engines i can put in here without major modification. an explorer 5.0 or a 4.6. thinking about my decision now, it will have to be torn out for an ls swap later down the line. picked up car manifolds and dipstick tube though, didnt have time for the pan yesterday but i do need to go back and see if this 97 exploder is gt40 or 40p. place votes '87 5.0 continental manifolds line up with '01 3.8 y pipes
>>27830318swapped 2nd hand valve body into a VW Transporter I got for like 5 grand less than its worth, drives perfectly now. Next is replacing the cracked exhaust manifold and the water pumpIt's hilarious how many mid 2000s VWs with 09G auto you can get for absolutely cheap as fuck because people assume you need to replace the whole transmission, when you can just get a good second hand valve body and chuck it in and it works fine afterwards
Got dam ford ranger doesn't fill up with fuel. It backs up almost instantly. No codes so don't think it's evap but tested the 2 solenoids anyways and they seems to work. Took the bed off and replaces the vent hose which I though was the problem. Made it a little better but still kind of shitty. What else could it be? Vapour canister? There looked like there was a valve on the fuel tank leading to the vapour canister but I couldn't get that sucker off to check it out and I didn't want to break it.
>>27831302filler neck is fucked up. there's a spring in the hose thats supposed to prevent it from collapsing, but you can still kink it pretty easily, the metal part likes to rust out too and clog it up
Just some small hackjobbering to increase the idle.
>>27831369The filler neck itself looked fine... But maybe I missed something. Wish I took more pictures. The filler hose also didn't look kinked but maybe replacing that and the filler neck will be enough to solve my issue.
>>27831386i have a similar problem with my white truck after i took it somewhere to have the fuel pump done, i fucked with rotating the filler neck hose around and its better. i can fill it continuously on the first click at most gas pumps now. im going to drop the dual tanks in favor for a 30 gallon van tank soon though
Gonna bump this thread with an ask for help…Blue quick connect going to the fuel sending unit is pissing out a little gas when the car is running and it stinks. Seems to be a 3/8” plastic coming off the fuel pump, and then into a 5/16” hose. Been searching half the day and haven’t found the exact fitting.
>>27832402…so I found picrel at Vato Zone, got the push-in fittings so I don’t have to mess with the heat gun around all the gas. The problem is the male 3/8” part on the fuel sending unit is too long. The old black and blue connector is deeper on the female part. So with the new one, I can’t push it on the fuel sending part far enough for it to actually clip over the little rib.The closest I have found anywhere looks to be Dorman 800-969. Looks nearly the same as the old fitting, but it’s internet only and the barb for the fuel line is 3/8” instead of 5/16”.So I figure I have a few options. #1 is cut down the male part on the fuel sending unit so it seats 100% in the picrel quick connect I got today. But if it doesn’t seat correctly, I rekt the fuel sending unit. #2 is to order that 800-969, then a length of 3/8” hose, then get a 3/8” to 5/16” hose adapter, but that’s more potential leaky spots, assuming that 800-969 actually fits onto the sending unit.#3 is I say fuck it, get the 5/16” to 3/8” hose adapter, a short length of 3/8” hose, and force the hose over the male sending unit part and put a hose clamp on there with no quick connect.Any ideas? Spent $40 on picrel at VatoZone, deciding whether to return it or try #1.
>>27830318Just finished the factory thermometer wiring correction on my grandpa's now my mom's Fiero. Next I gotta decide if I do the Subaru TSB for carbon buildup on my own or have the stealership do it. On one hand, it's like $130 in savings to do it myself. On the other, if they do it, it's a blame-target, not to mention they probably have experience doing this/have the setup to check if it was done right.
>>27831302You've got a vent or filler neck issue. I get issues with certain pumps clicking off on me instantly despite having perfectly functioning fuel systems in all of my rigs, but they're all 80's and older, some pumps flat out fucking will not work if i don't have a nozzle halfway out of the neck.
>>27832429You're already there, replace the sender. Check on Summit/Rock Auto/Oriellys and even FERD parts sites for your shitbox, which you didn't list so I can't search for you. If the specific nylon fitting and line is unobtanium or retardedly expensive, just fucking slap some 3/8" Gates EFI soft line on there with the good hose clamps or pinch clamps (the type you pinch with pliers made of stainless) and be done with it. The best fix would be going with push-lock fittings and line or adapting over to some AN bulkhead fittings and running new line.
she was a good diff2000-2024
>>27832871Why would I replace the sender? That part looks totally clean, it seems to be a dogshit quick connect pissing out fuel.
>>27831390>>27832843Gosh darnit. Think an aftermarket filler neck and hose would fix the issue? Might be worth $50 on rock auto.
>changing rear brake rotors yesterday>look at pads>what the fuck these look almost done I just changed them>life's been such a busy whirlwind I haven't realized I changed them over 3 years agoOff to the parts store again
>>27833679How the fuck do you burn through a rear pad in 3 years. Are they made of cardboard?
>Just finished installing set of front wheel bearings>Absolute bitch getting the caliper bracket bolts out, factory locktite and BS allen bolts>All out of acetylene have to torch for eternity with a tiny propane burner>Finally down to the final bolt, get it glowing orange, slowly start with breaker bar, starts creaking as it breaks free, bolt head snaps off>2 hours later after drilling the fucker out with grease and dull bits>Hub install then goes pretty smooth after that, wrap up in another 30 minutes or so>Test drive around the block>Passengers side bearing starts grinding horribly>Was the last set from the parts store, nearest one is over an hour away>Fine whatever I'll take the bike>Starts raining>mfw
>>27833716Living where they use calcium chloride in the winter because normal salt isn't enough, having bought shitty rust-happy rotors I haven't kept enough of an eye on and doing a fair bit of mileage probably. Also I might have underlubed them and not brushed off enough rust in the bracket housings so they were probably too tight against the rotor
engine wiring for a swap...not looking forward to it.
>>27833811What swap into what car, anon? I’ve always thought wiring was kinda fun in a brainteaser sort of way — especially when you’re running it yourself with all new shit
>>27833811tfw no /o/ friends to help with swap the engines between these 2.
>>27833864i thought you already had a 1.6 swap
>>27833864dropping an engine from a hoist alone was not enjoyable.>>27833818Just an '05 miata engine into a '90 engine. But I've been dragging my heels on wrapping this up.
>>27833866I only swapped the tranny on blue beater for a 3cyl one to make it pull harder. normal parts are hard enough to find already. 1.6 sedan stuff is rare shit.
>>27833888how hard to put a j35 honda subframe in the back?
>>27833940idk. my welds suck it would never hold.
>>27833971but it would be fucking sick
>>27830318Redoing the entire suspension on my T-Bird and dropping it about an inch and half with Vogtland springs. Rear axle didn't wanna budge whatsoever. Might be able to press the knuckle bushings with it still on there, find out tomorrow. Lower control arm bolts seem to be completely seized probably gonna have to cut em. I imagine the other side will be about the same. Hopefully the front is more freed up.
>>27830318a 70ish f600 vice grip garage special water truck i bought at blind online auction for $50. in the worst case...... Luckily, the recycling center is straight down hill from the storage yard in a worst case scenario..... But who the fuck would pay to store a 50 year old 2 ton truck if it wasnt a runner? Best case I'll be filling swimming pools all weekend for the normies that the big water guys cant be bothered to call back. $200 a pop.
>>27833716>>27833804well well well would you look at that the guide pins on the actually bad side are seized to death.again.
>>27834063Dodge shit. Especially rear disc jeeps 2003-2006 were horrible with this. Its always the passenger rear caliper that siezes.
>>27834034who the fuck doesnt just stick the garden hose in their pool and dump a bunch of chlorine in it later?

>>27833652I guarentee you can find an OE soft line, it's a ranger. Do it right.
>>27833161See all that yellow and brown plastic? It's ancient and brittle, plastic is horrible long term. Replace it you cheap cunt, and either find an OE fitting (which again you gave us no information what your shitbox is to help you search parts) or adapt a better solution and fix it like a proper wrencher.
>another day, another parking lot alternatorAt least the ol’ lady made it to work and cruised into her parking spot with the battery light on before the car died>>27832871>just fucking slap some 3/8" Gates EFI soft line on there with the good hose clamps or pinch clamps (the type you pinch with pliers made of stainless) and be done with it.I’ll prob do this, the gay thing is it’s still going to need to be adapted to 5/16 fuel line.>>27834988Psh it’s good. Also vehicle specific searches don’t match shit so far. 2008 EscapeI gave my possible solutions and was waiting to see who had a better idea or to pick 1 of 3 of em. That plastic could be stained by the gas too, I’ll wait til the fuel pump dies to replace the sending unit, or maybe when I snap the fucking connection off by being a retard.
>>27834988The only one that I have found so far that nearly matches the original is picrel, but this goes to a 3/8” hose, not 5/16
Replacement pumps 3 & 4 have the same symptom. Checked for folded over o ring, can blow through the filter, no voltage drop, the pumps do fuck all when you put them in a glass of baby oil and plug it in. How are mechanics shops even functioning with shit like this?
>>27836990>>27834988>bumpWanted to add, the issue is I can’t even find a fucking 3/8” to 5/16” hose adapter locally to stick the 3/8” line straight to the pump with a clamp. I saw a bigger Advance Discount Auto that I think I’m going to stop by after work and try to get behind the counter. They should have bulk fuel line and maybe an adapter back there, even if it’s shit that’s not on their website like all the Dorman pieces,
>>27830318Installed a steering wheel spacer in my incel car because I’m a lanklet
>>27838545Going to try this, I’ll hack off the quick connect, adapt the 5/16” line up to 3/8”, and then clamp the 3/8” line on the post where the quick connect was. If that doesn’t work, then I’ll try a couple 3/8” quick connects and see if any of them fit, then at least I have the 3/8” hose to go to the 3/8” quick connect, since it’s nearly impossible to find the 5/16” hose to 3/8” quick connect that looks anything like the existing one.
I replaced a ball joint yesterdayI’d replaced it a year or two ago and during my last oil change, or something, noticed it had several large cracks in the boot.I replaced it, but the old one was just as still as the new one I put in. Did I waste my time and I just should’ve left it until it started making noise? Pic related. Obviously on the car is was all squished up, but it was still obviously torn. And no, no destructive tools were ever used on it. In fact it was never separated from the LCA until I replaced it after noticing the damage (I used the press thingy, might have made the tear worse, but I don’t think so, there wasn’t any grease on it when I was done.)

Killer intake hose popped towing about 7k. It's popped in a place I can bypass it which is good because no one has the pipe within 100 miles.
bump doing an e40d rebuild any tips?
Why did this hole happen it doesn't even look crusty in here
An assortment of shit2010 Subaru Outback, 2.0 diesel. Belongs to an ex-colleague, failed the bi-yearly inspection which makes it my problem>low-beam headlights not producing enough lightsHID-projectors, and a very common failure point on these as the reflector is poorly made and melts internally, ruining any light output. Might be sent away for a rebuild, or I might try my hand at them>headlight washers not workingCleaned the lines, dismantled the pump-and-motor assembly to clean and lube, repaired a broken solder. Now works fine>right-side rear driving lights not workingTwo W5W-bulbs replaced>rear fog light not workingReplaced the 7-pin trailer plug, and a burnt/melted connector behind a rear lamp>battery not securedWhoever replaced the battery within the last two years just didn't bother to attach the hooks and tighten down the nuts.....>missing lugnut on left front wheelDifficult repair. Had to take a spare nut and put it on, but it worked out.>ehxuast leakEnd-muffler's flange was fucked, and held together with a tube clamp and two hose clamps.... also muffler itself had some crusty holes, so I cleaned up the area, added a thin plate over the holes and then lathered it all in exhaust-cement
>>27841811Any other day I would've just replaced it, but new mufflers for these are somewhat pricey and the owner wants it to be as cheap as possible, sooooo.......
>>27841815Absolutely shit material to weld on. One second I'm doing an alright pass and then suddenly I'm punching holes
Did a power steering return hose on my beater yesterday. Shit was all crusty and rusty, so I just cut both ends, ez. Now I get to put together a press I had to buy for all the bushings on my Thunderbird, cuz of course the spending never ends when working on old bullshit.
I found some extra gaudy wheel covers today. It goes well with the other tacky chrome stuff.
Deciding if I should repaint my whole car a non-Toyota stock color, since the paint on the left back quarter panel, the roof, and the hood are all sun damaged and wearing out. I could just do a 776 Green, but the paint is hard to find, whereas I could just pick a modern gunmetal and get it for cheap.
wrenchlet here. i drive a pretty old car, its a 2006 corolla, a lot of people still drive old cars like mine, but im noticing the cars breaking down on the side of the road aren't old, they're relatively very new, i dont think ive seen a car over 10 years old on the side of the road, are new cars having problems or something? figured i should ask the wrenchers on this board.
Oil change. Nothing crazy.Found a metal chip in the plug magnet and now I can’t sleep.
installed a crane in my truck, this will save my back loading firewood, axles engines etc
