Slow unless you dump thousands into it just to hopefully make it comparable to a modern ish v8 performance wise.

That said I've still owned 3 of them. They're very reliable very fun and very cheap. Sound great too almost no matter what you do with the exhaust system. They're pretty comfy. Interior quality is dog shit but I can't name a 90s muscle car that actually has good interior anyways. I remember my first completely unmolested GT kinda felt like a boat. Like the newer mustangs do but with even worse handling characteristics. Again, performance doesn't matter unless you're going to the track really. It's all about feel.

I felt the 95 firebird I had was about as fun overall. But it wasn't as comfy and didn't sound as good. Even after doing 4.10s I was just kinda meh. Great fun car but man I missed the exhaust note of my 97 GT. Wish I remembered what was done to that exhaust.

Gonna have to disagree with you on sound. OHC V8s never sound right to me. Otherwise, yeah, they're "fine". Building one is a money sink and a half for very limited returns. Knew a few guys who have done it. Most wallowed shy of 500 horsepower, unable to break that ceiling because of diminishing returns for the sheer cost. One guy wedged an old SBF 302 in and had a cheaper go of hitting higher horsepower.

You're limited by the transmission and rear end pretty badly. Luckily, there's plenty of aftermarket if you like lighting money on fire. Still better off just getting a foxbody. At least then you've got a better weight ratio to work with and there's a lot less fail points outside of powertrain.

They both use the same 8.8" diff, people sway SN95 rear ends and front spindles onto foxes to improve their brakes. Also, there's multiple transmission choices from built AODs and 4R70s to TKOs and T56s

i bought a 01 v6 to put an explorer gt40 engine into, its a clean rust free car i bought for $900, it needed a bunch of sensors and a fuel pump and now its ready for the swap. all the goodies you see people swap onto foxbodies come off these cars, does that mean these are track destroying race cars? fuck no. they're still mcdonalds up front solid axle in the back with shitty gimmicky ford electronics, but you arent getting anything nicer this cheap. 4.6 makes no power got no potential unless you're swapping a cobra/mkviii motor and want it bolt in with a manual i wouldnt pay extra for a GT. there are ways to make these cars fast but i would look at a C4 vette first

they're on bhph lots and as much as everyone hates the 3.8 they're still kicking past 200k and not complete ass to work on like a taurus, just be ready for everyone to expect you to be kyle who lives in a trailer drinking monsters and punching holes in walls
