I got the GTI version and it's an absolute blast and every time I look at the car after work or coming back from something I think to myself "damn this is a nice car I like it". If you can you can try to find the mid version with 156 horses, its a lot cheaper than the GTI but still kicks a punch for city driving. Don't try modding it or do chiptuning, it'll blow up without replacing every other part as well (start with the intercooler).
