Choose wisely.
The orange one looks cool, no idea what the fuck it is, but I'll pick that
>>27833663>>27833664fpbpthey are all shit, nova looks the best 70's miat
>>27833663Gremlin.
>>27833667>>27833669akshuelly I change my answer to gremlin too, that's a vega, not a novagremlin had v8 option
>>27833667>>27833674So the orange one is a Chevrolet Vega? Didn't they have a straight 6 engine?I know nothing about amerijunk, but I'd still drive it
>>27833663I can smell the vinyl from here
>>27833682They were all inline 4s, there was a Cosworth twin cam engine though.
>>27833663That could be my old pinto.Right year.Right body style.Right color.I want that fucking car back.It was a street legal go-kart.Factory German 4 speed transmission and a 2 barrel holley (1 primary barrel, 1 secondary barrel).Dual a-arms up front.
>>27833663>Vega is GM dogshit>Furd pinto looks gud, fire issue is overblown, but it's a 70's 4 banger in the end>Gremlin has a jeep straight 6I think I'll take the gremlin >>maybe I'll get the jeans interior too
>>27833715>but it's a 70's 4 banger in the endCajon speedway (fastest 3/8 mile in the west!) ran pony class for many, many years. It's a stock class. Even the carburetor has to be factory.Pintos averaged 86mph.That's average. That means slowing down for turns. On a 3/8 mile oval track.Record was 127mph.Imagine doing well over 100mph in a pinto and diving into a turn that's sharper than a freeway cloverleaf. They also ran Vegas but they couldn't compete- multiple reasons- one being that the pinto chassis was much more rigid and more sheetmetal could be cut out for weight reduction.
>>27833663Gremlin.AMC were based retards, I love their cars.
>>27833663pinto is the best ca-*bursts into flames*
>>27833663Vega, and swap in the Buick 3.8 from a Skyhawk or Starfire.
>>27833663vega so I can yeet a 383 stroker into it
>>27834634I think that you'd be looking for a monza.
>>27834343A pinto could not do 127+ mph stock.
>>27833663Mavrick. 302 drops in and parts are available everywhere. Pinto would be a tougher build. 304 will fit in a Gremlin, but you're still stuck getting parts for a 304. Maybe a built 258.
>>27834688oh whoops is that a vega? My bad. I knew a few Vega owners who said they were shit. Maybe I'd stick with the gremlin.
The correct answer is the pinto > gremlin > vega. The exploding gas tank is a meme, none of these were safe. Best ride and build quality by far. Those vegas were notoriously rattly shit, even if they technically “handled better.” Imagine a gen iii camero but more rattles and squeaks. AMC also not up to fomoco at the time. Both the OHC 4 and colonge v6 are good, reliable old school engines that got used for the next 30 years after this. The gremlin with the jeep I6 is also cool, the v8 is a meme.
>>27833663vega until the motor blows up after 3 miles then swap in the iron duke out of a pontiac astre
I am waiting for an alternate option from Chrysler...
I'd have a hard time not going with the Pinto.>>27834796You'd end up with a rebadged Galant which would probably be better
>>27833663The Pinto, so long as it doesn't have that shitty "Cruise-o-matic" tranny. Manual only.
I'd rather walk desu
>>27834796>>27834877Ah, the Dodge Colt. Of course Chrysler had to use a captive import to compete, as their "smallest Chrysler" at the time was the Cordoba.
>>27833663I choose the Gremlin 401-XR, bitches
IIRC the Gremlin was the cheapest out of those 3, would also get my vote because of the I6. The Pinto engine is solidofc, I just never like bulbous body>>27834719Vegas also had terrible engines>>27833715based, I had a Peugeot 205 with a jeans interior. It's actually really nice to sit on and durableWhat about the Gremlins with the VW four?
The Vega was a crap car, but man, the way they were shipped by train looked like Hot Wheels stuff.
>>27836113>What if they used that budget to make the vega a notshit car instead hmm?I know GM could do it, pull the old SOHC i6 out of storage and lop off 2 cylinders perhaps
>>27833663gremlin all day every day, peak malaise era shitbox
>>27833682>straight 6Most gremlins came with I6, the other two were I4s.>pinto had a rare V6 option ~100hp>gremlin had a rare V8 150hp>vega had a rare DOHC I4 110hp70's were tough timesUS had environmental regulations that europoors didn't get until 2000'sLots of engines were just detuned 60's engines, hence 150hp V8sTook manufacturers a while to learn how to work around regulations and get power back>SOx NOx regs are still much stricter in US, one of the reasons most small euroshart diesels don't qualify for sale, if you see one in the wild, it's 99/100 times Mexican platesHowever all that being said, all of these cars were much more based than what we have today. >rwd>lightweight>decent power for 70'sSomething like a miata or a BRZ was the default for shittiest cars sold to young boomers
