Cvts design wise are as good as a transmission can get for efficiency. The ultimate goal of a manual transmission in the first place was to be able to keep the engine in the optimal rev range to accelerate and then cruise. A cvt makes it so you stay in peak power rpm till you want to cruise and then seamlessly goes into a cruising ratio without ever disconnecting power. It literally does not get any better than that
