Hi /o/
This is my first car, I'm over the moon with it.

Please tell me how dumb and wrong I am for going with it as a first car. It's the 1.8 petrol manual. Ta.
>>
it will be reliable and based.
>>
I cannot believe these cars are almost 20 years old, they have not aged styling wise.
>>
>>27960192
Don't let it overheat, the R18 had issues with cracked blocks.
The radio likes to fail because one tiny little electronic components was specced wrong, burns out, and causes the whole system to go into a loop of overheating, shutting down, cooling off, and powering on again, with accompanying popping through the speakers. Fixing it permanently isn't hard, but getting the radio unit out requires you to disassemble half the interior.
First Civic to use a torsion beam in the back after having had fully independent suspension for ages. Also kinda fat compared to its predecessor.

Solid cars otherwise.
>>
>>27960215
Yes it was based on the Honda Jazz platform IIRC. Vans levels of storage inside, but the ride suffered greatly. 5drs rode better than 3drs though, with their sportier type S suspension.

Type R was a whole other level of harsh lol.
>>
What the fuck kind of Civic is that?
>>

>>

>>
>>27960215
Only american 8th gen from 2006-2007 used to have cracked blocks.
>>
>>27960192
Its a right proper car OP.
Dont listen to those fags that you need something big.
Though I cant say anything about the reliability of these hondas
>>
>>27960284
Best to just err on the side of caution and not let it overheat anyway.
>>
>>27960192
you still rolling with a tax disc in the window?
don't put petrol in it either, its diesel. plus the mot expired over a year ago.

Great choice of car, fren. It won't disappoint you.

I've had This FN1, and 2 FN2s. I loved every one of them.
>>
>>27960272
It's not slow, 8.9 seconds to 60 is quick for a first car. Insurance isn't bad at all either!
>>
>>27960520
Nice how are the FN2s? I want one for my second car. I hear the ride is shocking which my GF will hate but also heard progressive lowering springs help a lot

People say it's kinda hard. I dealt with it since I knew what I was buying and accepted it. Other than that, they are fun.

Again, I loved that shape of civics so I enjoyed them. Have an FK2 now.
>>
>>27960192
It's fine. The 4 door sedan model would have been better of course. But if we're comparing like that the v6 accord would be better still.
>>
>>27960619
Dang nice, I'd love one of those but they are way out of my price and insurance league lol maybe one day.

These are still everywhere on the road, considering they are from 2006 It just shows how reliable they are.

You should go for sedan.
Sedan was made in japan in hiroshima while hatch was made in england in swindon with everything that goes with it.

You bought the wrong generation Civic. The EP2 had a 1.6, was just as quick as the 1.8 in the heavier FK2 you bought. The EP2 also had double wishbone rear suspension and more fun handling.
>>
>>27962745
I had a look at those but they are pretty old at this point. The newer civic has a much nicer interior, dual climate control, cruise control etc. plus i love that the speedo is always in view
>>
>>27960192
Honda is usually a solid choice. Take care of it and it will probably live for a long ass time. Enjoy your egg, bro.

I still can't believe torsion beam is making a coming back. After all the years of engineering double wishbones and mcdonald's suspensions, the bean counters said "fuck it, torsion beams are good enough"
Meanwhile a 1988 Civic Standard was rocking double wishbones on all four corners, and while you didn't even get a clock in the dashboard, it still provided years of entertainment for ricers all around the world.
>>
>>27960192
>>27960520
You guys are so fucking lucky. Wish we got these in the US
>>

You guys got the better chassis with actually good engines. All the space egg has over yours is looks.
>>
>>27960192
>This is my first car, I'm over the moon with it.
It will probably drive you to the moon and back as part of your commute. Enjoy your good buy.
>>
>>27960350
Volvo in particular got trapped in a time capsule. Scandinavian design at its best has no temporal categorization.
>>
>>27963441
>the bean counters said "fuck it, torsion beams are good enough"
There's a few factors on it:
>it's really cheap
>it's really easy to manufacture
>modern computational analysis can tune a torsion beam to application really well
>most people give zero fucks about the performance benefit they won't use
>the packaging easily flattens out a vehicle chassis platform which greatly improves cargo and occupant space
>easy way to reduce weight
There's a ton of benefits to the simplification and it's well suited to mass market vehicles. It'll make /o/tists mad but as far as I'm concerned, car go vroom, adjust the nut behind the wheel.
>>
>>27964376
The thing is though It's limitations show REAL hard on this civic.

Civics are known for their dynamic handling so to not lose that they stiffened the car, the handling is excellent but the ride quality is close to appalling. very crashy and any pot hole will shatter your spine, and this is in a 5 door normal family hatch.
>>
>>27960590
The ride isn't harsh at all for a hot hatch, it's no worse then most modern cars.
When I got mine the ride was terrible, I thought that's how they were hearing everybody cry about it, then I replaced the front shocks and the ride was fine. It's on par with an e46 with the sports pack on 18s, they're comfortable cars. It's just people regurgitated what they hear.
>>
>>27960192
It's not a sports car, it's not pretty, but you got yourself a respectable and reliable car. My father has one and that R18 has overheated twice, because of his stupidity and has no issues, just do regular maintenance and check the oil level because they may drink a quart between change intervals. Good choice faggot
>>
>>27962745
These were all rotten and fucked 10 years ago. And they have shit gearboxes.
>>
>>27964771
Is it not a step down in ride quality compared to the EP3 with it's IRS? I love the FN2 and aspire to own one but all I've heard is how terrible the ride is, from owners too. Again I don't give a crap about the bad ride, but my GF might haha.
>>
>>27964787
This is my issue, I actually considered an EP2, 1.6 without the sport kit but...All were shagged and rotten. The FK2 I bought is on 90k miles and has held up beautifully. The interior looks just as modern as the exterior too it's quite crazy, minus any touchscreen nonsense ofc.

Thanks, it's not "pretty" but I think it holds up very well with modern cars, it hasn't aged much.

Also I've bought the later facelift grille so it'll look like this soon which I think is a nice improvement.
>>
>>27965234
Full glass is cooler imo.
>>
>>27965221
They say it is but I've not driven an EP3, personally I didn't want to pay more for an older car and deal with all the problems associated with old cars. I've never really liked the styling on the EP3 either, it looks like a van compared to the older civics.
The ride quality on the FN2 is okay, I doubt a woman would even pick up on it. They're really not any harsher then anything else a little bit sporty. I think this myth comes from people driving cars with worn out shocks, the ride is nothing to write home about.

I own one since 2015, the 2.2 i-CTDi 140BHP. Bought with 140000KM, now it has 240000KM and not a single mechanical issue. I love this car so much, it's unreal.
It's not perfect of course (shitty visibility, shitty radio, understeer...) but it is really pleasent to drive and the 2.2 have so much torque, it is really fun.
I'm currently considering the gen 10, 1.5 182BHP.

>>
>>27972791
Because in the UK you are on probation for the first two years of driving. You get half the point allowance for losing your license for those two years. So I didn't want anything too fast which would entice me to speed, get caught and most probably lose my license.

Also, I wanted a Type R, but they cost more to buy and to run. The insurance would have almost doubled compared to what I'm paying on the 1.8. It just made sense to go with the cooking Civic for my first car and upgrade in two years time.

Also it's actually very nippy for a first car. 0-60 is in the 8s. Most of my friends first cars we're 1.0 Clios and Corsas that got to 60 in the low teens.
>>

2000s type R civics are incredibly forgiving and easy to drive. Baby's first car tier.
You can basically just throw it into whatever gear and it won't complain compared to more serious sports cars that will grenade the transmission and launch into a wall the second you think about shifting less than perfectly.
>>
>>27972985
Oh I know, I just mean I'd probably get carried away with how awesome the K20 is and drive beyond my limits and come a cropper

>>
>>27973120
A friend of mine wanted a V8 as his first car. I had to explain as kindly as I could that he’d probably wrap it round a tree even if he only drives sensibly for the simple reason it takes experience to keep high powered cars under control. A 1.8 Civic is very fast for a first car in the U.K. so you’ve done nicely in that department. Best thing you can do is fit a set of premium all seasons and drilled brake disks whenever it’s viable. Of course if it’s a throwaway you’re only keeping short term there’s no point but I can’t recommend all season tires enough if you live in a damp climate. Hugely improved traction and braking. That could go a long way to keep you out of an accident. Even if you can’t afford premium ones, simply having tires that are optimised for the climate you live in will be massively beneficial due to the way the performance varies with air temperature and how dry/wet the road surface is
>>
>>27975174
In the US lots of people have v8s for their first cars. I knew a guy that had a camaro and died in it at 22. took a girl with him too. so maybe it's not a good idea actually

It's safety measures. Do you think it's a good idea to have 17 year olds who are new to driving, driving around in 400hp super saloons?

This is why MURICANS are dumb. They want everyone to be unsafe like them, there are restrictions for a reason. Gun restrictions are also similar too.

Look at the gun deaths and car accident deaths in the US and compare it to the "cucked" euros...you'll see a big disparity. But not like you'd give a shit anyway, with your no empathy having yank ways.

I don't know man I got the Diesel version and I already have to replace a whole bunch of suspension stuff at only 220k km: shock absorbers, wishbones, tie rods. €2000 bill to replace it all. Several heat shields and underbody panels are already gone (not going to replace them). The rear brakes tend to get stuck or cause other problems. The DPF is just a faulty construction from the beginning.

Overall not the kind of reliability I expected from a Japanese car, however the engine is very torquey and the car is super practical for it's nice. There isn't really any equivalent new car on the market so I guess I have to stick with it a bit longer, even if it costs me €1000 in repairs every year.
>>
>>27981084
Suspension parts are a wear item every car deals with, not a reliability issue. If your undertray fell off your mechanic never put in back on properly.
Get a German car of the same year if you want to experience real unreliability it will be in limp mode or have engine failure.
>>
>>27981119
No the panels and heat shields rusted through, I took them off because I'm not paying hundreds for a thin sheet of metal or even plastic.
I never had to replace that suspension stuff in my damn Peugeot when I gave it away at 270k km, I kind of assumed those things should last at least 300k km in a Japanese car. Granted there weren't as many retarded speed bumps everywhere back then.
>>
>>27981134
Meh, there are always exceptions to the rules, you can get that one very reliable french car and that one japanese lemon, it happens. 220k is not bad going for shit to start going wrong desu. Also the Diesels just seem more unreliable in general, heavy engine is more wear on other components such as suspension.

My first car was an EP2 1.6 without the sport kit. Awesome little things. I've driven an FN1 Type S and they're super direct and have a great engine, interior is MUCH superior...but the EP2 rides better thanks to the superior suspension setup. I do have my eye on an FN2 with LSD though, as EP3s are too expensive now.

Yes and a 330d is like an M3 but diesel, absolutely.
The usual diesel cope aside I do like space eggs (though I've never owned one) and I'm glad both you and the OP enjoy yours.

Haha I'm not coping, it's only because the diesel is a huge 2.2 unit in such a small car, and the Type R was underpowered this generation, it's basically no faster than the previous civic while this diesel engine is WAY more powerful than the previous

K20 destroys your piece of shit diesel LMAO. Cope kiddo.

my first car is an used cx3, im quite happy my first car is a mazda.
In 3-4 years ill be buying a 3 or a cx5, depending on how the 2025-6 ones end up faring
>>
>>27991165
why didn't you get a 3? isn't the CX3 based on the mazda 2? the 3's interior is incredible
>>
>>27991506
I couldnt convince my family to get a 3, they wanted a ((compact)) that looked as close as a SUV, but all the CX5 we found had high mileage (cheapest one was around 40k miles), while cheapest CX3 we found had only 17k miles.

It didnt help that i told them the 3 had higher trunk capacity and seat width than the CX3 .. which is why ill buy my own in 2-3 years

Honda S2000 isn't wacky looking and still looks contemporary. The only parts that give it away are the bulbs and 16" wheels.
>>
>>27991537
why would they want a compact lol, they're the worst of both worlds..high centre of gravity and less space. sometimes you have to be selfish and force the right decision on your less learned senpai!
>>
>>27991537
>40k miles is high mileage for a 250k mile engine
Am I being poor here?
>>
>>27992767
well i may have made a mistake, they wanted something that resembled a SUV because of "space", but they didnt wanted to believe me when i told them that a 3 had far more space than a cx3. I even told them to get a cheap 6, but MUH SUV!!!!!! So they chose a CX3
>>
>>27992775
Nah its just chance of engine breaking down increases somewhat above 62k miles (prices go down hard after your engine has more than 100km in non freedom units). I suppose it doesnt reaaaallly apply to Mazdas but its a rule of thumb somewhat

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!

I mean, if the credit had been approved under my name, sure, i'd have forced em to get a 3. But i wasnt approved due low ratings, so my sister ended up getting convinced by my other one. Thats why im buying my own in 3 or so years and by that time ill have to see which of the 3 ones to buy.
