They've been fine. Drove both kids in it today because the minivan is getting an AC issue diagnosed by a real mechanic. Had a second kid a month ago, so I probably won't go offroading (or participate in any other hobbies) for a while. Maybe I'll teach them how to skate when they're older.

I just took this photo. It feels just like a real glock 17 in your hand. It weighs similar to an unloaded g17. Slide is metal and frame is polymer. It's "pot" metal, so you can't get it optic milled. But they pay glock a license to make the airsoft gun, so it's decent quality. Fun way to mess around in the backyard.

I put a 4in lift on my jeep. Its pretty wobbly on windy days now. Would spacers help stablize it a bit? It has just been abnormally windy here since I installed it, its find on normal days
>>
>>27964984
What else have you pulled out of the lake?
>>
>>27966163
They'd help a bit. Did you remove your sway bars? Because that'll cause a lot of wobble with a lift and winds.
>>
>>27966175
No I even added a steering stablizer. Ive also still got the stock tires on it which are kinda small for it now.
>>
>>27966218
How did you lift it? Just taller springs or did you go with stiffer shocks as well?
You can get taller springs that are mushy or stiff, and shocks with different compression/rebound rates that will help or worsen the wobble too.
>>
>>27966223
Rough Country lift kit with springs and shocks.
>>
>>27966227
If you can adjust the shocks I would try that first, some let you make them stiffer or softer with a little adjustment knob. Not sure if yours have that, you'll have to check.

ngl this might be an issue. Rough Country is good for budget lifts but their shocks don't come close to a Bilstein, ICON, Fox, or OME in terms of performance or longevity.
i probably wouldn't trust them for more than a 2" lift or level.

>>
>>27968034
I've never used them personally so I can't really say. I have never heard anyone complain about them the way they do Rough Country though. My dad put RCs on his old F150 and they only lasted about 2 years before the seals started to fail and one of the springs just became weak and the truck was sort of lopsided. At first we thought we installed them backwards, i.e. left vs. right but we didn't, it was just shit.
Sold the truck to some 20 year old, I'm sure he's driven it into a tree by now.

I bought the truck knowing the cab supports were rusted out (forgot to mention i also welded that in).
Watched 3 episodes of VGG where he does this repair and decided "I can do that too". Took me a long time. It's the first time I've welded sheet metal.
>>
>>27968379
how do I into welding?
is there a source where it teaches how to do it properly and to cure strong bondings (with your car)
>>
>>27968430
Watch some youtube. Get a welder, try not to cheap out. Lincoln, Hobart, Miller are good, there are other acceptable options.
Get some metal. Set up your welder for that metal. They usually have a chart on the inside for a starting point based on the thickness. picrel.
The best advice I got for sheet metal was to turn up the voltage until you blow through, then dial it back a bit.

Interesting, I didn't know you could even get a licensed Glock now. I've been out of airsoft for 10+ years now but I remember a time when you could only get pseudo-Glocks or grey market imports from countries like Japan where they don't enforce gun trademarks because Glock refused to license an official one for the US.

People sleep on airsoft as a training tool imo, I was into it before I got into real guns, and while there are things it obviously doesn't teach (recoil control) it really gave me a leg up in learning to handle the real thing and I very quickly became the best handgun shooter in my friend group despite many of my friends being veterans or people who'd grown up shooting with their families etc. Obviously just fucking around isn't gonna do much but for a nerd like me who actually tried to learn real trigger control techniques etc. with airsoft it made a big difference.

This is probably a long shot, but can anybody recommend an easy trail somewhere close to LA, preferably near the San Fernando Valley? I've been insanely busy for the last couple of years and haven't been able to make any trips, and I'm feeling really guilty and worried about how long it's been since I last used 4WD. I'm moving to somewhere with snow in a couple of months and I need to exercise and test the system ASAP so I can deal with any issues while I'm still close to my trusted mechanic.

Only thing I've heard about these, and from two different guys, is they wear unevenly. One guy had them on a Ranger and the other was a RAM2500. I guess if you want to rotate them constantly, or maybe they got a weird batch, they're OK tires.
If you are completely risk-averse just go with Goodyear Wranglers or BFG KO2s, they are proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. I went with some Toyo AT3s recently instead of KO2s and I'm pleasantly surprised by them, only gripe so far is they like to pick up a ton of gravel in the treads. If you're leaving your ATs on all year then winter performance should be a big consideration. KO2s do very well in the snow, anyone who says otherwise is a shit driver and possibly a homosexual (almost definitely a homosexual).

in my experience, Duratracs are better than K02s in the snow. the place i buy tires from requires rotation every 10k for warranty but does the rotations for free.
>>
>>27974745
Tire shop told me I should come back to them for rotations too just to be good on the warranty, not sure I can be bothered though. I am under my vehicle enough doing stuff that I can rotate them on my own time, I just take some photos of me doing it and keep a log in the vehicle manual.
I always rotated my old KO2s myself and got over 100,000km out of them.

Literally anything off Amazon.
This isn't the 80's where tech is only available from "high end" manufacturers.

I know they're all cheap, again it's why I asked if anyone has specific opinions since there's dozens of them. I'm not keen on the smartphone ones that require an app, seems like a backdoor for chinese spyware. If anything one of the units with its own screen, but some have really spotty resolution too. $40 is still $40, that buys me half a tank of gas or 300 rounds of .22LR.

>It’s a well-known fact among hardcore Toyota lovers that a 1985 Pickup or 4Runner is the most desirable to have. That was the first year for the fuel injected 22RE engine and the last year of the straight axle front end. The problem is there are only so many '85's to go around and demand for them is ever increasing. It has become obvious that converting IFS trucks to solid axle makes for the best of both worlds. The conversion works out great - combining a newer comfy, reliable and powerful V6 truck with the strength, wheel travel, and off-road capability that the solid axle brings.

Just buy a square body chevy. Almost the entire truck is available aftermarket. The engine is literally the cheapest engine you can rebuild. It's designed to be easy to work on (for the most part). You can pull the entire thing apart with 4 different socket sizes.
They're going up in value but they haven't reached ridiculous prices yet.

Based.

Hate normoids who cry about cars being computers and not being able to be worked on. BOF vehicles are Legos on easy mode. Unibody is where custom fab starts being annoying.
>>
>>27977467
My newish midsize truck has been a great do-everything vehicle. Small enough to be manageable in big cities (I've even been to SF a few times with it) but still quite capable off road, good enough as a sedan replacement, and having a truck bed has ended up being super useful for me. Fuel economy is my only real complaint but it's cheaper than owning a second car once you factor in reg and insurance (both insane because CA) and so on.

I do plan on getting a dual sport bike pretty soon though, the one thing the truck isn't is sporty, and the two vehicles synergize well together since I can haul the bike longer distances while still riding it around locally.

The stock auxiliary e-fan only kicks on when it's already too hot. Some people wire up a manual switch to turn it on, so they can use it preemptively to prevent it getting hot in the first place.

They programmed it to kick on at such a high temp for emissions reasons, to stop the fan from kicking it out of open loop.

We had a salvaged brush truck (compact fire truck for fire roads in the hills).
It had gotten stuck out on the trails.
As they were hooking it up to the tow truck they decided to empty the tank to make it easier to pull out- the weight of the water was the only thing keeping it planted and once it passed that point of equilibrium it tumbled down the side of the mountain.

Offroading is all about balance.
>>
>>27984187
>Offroading is all about balance.
Aye, this is why some vehicles have wonky layouts underneath and inside, because engineers have had to shuffle shit around to obtain the proper balance for the vehicle. My FJ has a fuckin retarded hump under the back seat because of where the fuel tank bulges upward, but they did that to get the guts in tighter and keep the balance from shifting too far rearward with a full tank.

it's being mocked as an offroad vehicle, not a vehicle in general

and yes guys do take trucks like this on trails, usually to their own detriment. they get stuck easily, are too heavy for anyone else to pull out, bottom out on obstacles easily, and can't turn around on trails that get too tough because they're too long to do a 3 point turn. case in point one of the local mine rescue guys took his work truck on some logging roads near me, realized it was too rough and tried turning around, did a 15 point turn before Austin-Powers calamity ensued and he couldn't move forward or backward without going off a cliff or into trees.

we spent 2 hours cutting down trees in front of him and clearing brush just so he could pull forward and do another 7 point turn to head back out of the trail and stop blocking it for everyone.

Fuel dilution becomes an issue on an ancient engine that was engineered even further back. So for me it's 4-5k oci with picrel.

I would still take the freedom over the state inspection bullshit Americans have to deal with.

Based. Looks better than a lot of the new construction homes I've seen in my area.

Just slather some slate colored EIFS on the outside and wa-la.

absolutely disgusting shit, saw them doing this to an older home in my area recently and I was enraged.

pic semi rel, it was a beautiful old brick home from early 1900s similar to this and they were just burying it under this bland nu trash

And this is why lynch mobs were a thing.
In a just society they would be tarred and feathered to teach them a lesson.

I was driving for over 20 years before I ever had a legit smog certificate.
>>
>>27984357
Here in the US, (((builders))) employing teams of mexicans just build giant cardboard boxes and slather that shit on the outside and then charge 1 mil + tip, and happy young couples in open relationships with fake make-work jobs come along and buy it which is whatever since everything here is fake and gay now.

But... doing that to a nice old brick building like that should be a criminal offense.

Why are newer Cherokees (even the higher trims) so much cheaper than every other 4x4 vehicle?

In the KLs case, it was bad engineering. The transmissions explode and are expensive as fuck to replace.

Ran into someone driving one on the trails a while back, who'd already replaced his transmission once, and the replacement was now also dropping gears.

There are no inspections or smog where I live and where most people live
There’s only inspections and smog if you live in the same county as a large city
My exhaust on the Toyota is about 1 foot long and comes out the hood, it has no bumpers or dash inside, no speedometer or gauges of any kind
Also has no seat belts or mirrors at all

Not that anon who's calling you a tweaker, but I am perplexed by your choice. You seem to prefer old vehicles to wrench on, and prefer mechanical simplicity. Why not get an older Golf, like picrel?
>>
Or even better
>>
>>27984688
>You seem to prefer old vehicles to wrench on, and prefer mechanical simplicity.
I do prefer exactly that, but nobody makes that in a new car
I just like buying shitboxes and wrenching on em and modifying em, every car doesn't have to be a shitbox tho

any other jeep bros here working on getting all their badges?
im only doing the west coast ones for now
>>
>>27984714
Is there any vetting process for these badges or do they just send em out to anyone who asks?

Also, thinking of starting a mobile mechanic business as a side hustle, focusing on suspension work. Fuck chasing down driveability problems with scan tools and shit. Brakes, ball joints, bushings, shocks, axles, shit like that. There's a large off-road community here. Many of them are no-wrench zoomers. Is this a bad idea?
>>

you install the app and use the app to request the badges

sounds like you're literally going to be a buff gigachad after a year of doing that, it's gonna test your patience working on rusted ass busted ass rigs all day
check out the toyota I spotted at an auto zone, why do jap trucks rust so badly

Was just wondering how to find good clients so I won't end up changing control arms in housing project high rise parking lots on '09 Malibus and them trying to pay with their EBT cards after. How do you find the good clients and avoid nightmare clients.

I'm thinking of replacing the oil pan bolts on my 4.0 with studs from mcmaster
>1/4-20x3/8 in the block, 1/4-28x3/4 from the block replacing the 1/4-20x1/2 bolts
>5/16-18x3/8 in the block, 5/16-24x3/4 from the block replacing the 5/16-18x1/2 bolts
Studs will have an OAL of 1-1/4" which should give me enough length to snug them in the block and install the pan and nuts like normal
