Had it for about a year now.
I just love it, bros.
The gated manual with NA v10 is an underrated combo, and more manufacturers should've done it.

hot take, but I'd rather have the gated v8. sounds way, way more rowdy

R8 wasn't meant to be as capable as can be. in fact, i'm sure VAG intentionally held the car back to a degree to not make the 911 seem pointless. the R8 never got any special dedicated performance trims, and it was entirely marketed as a dialed back super car. it caught on and was a huge hit for Audi who had been previously lagging behind BMW and Merc as not having anything to make it stand out.

the R8 was what the original NSX failed to do. livable super car with competitive-but-not-world-beater performance. the NSX was only livable.

The original nsx failed, because it was a honda, not because it wasn't competitive, you don't know history.

gee I dunno, maybe they didn't because they barely sold any new

The only true R8 is a V8 R8. The hard mechanical sound of VAG V8 is a much better fit for the R8 than screamy Lambo V10.

The 5.2 in R8, S6, S8 and facelift Gallardo is the Audi 4.2 FSI with 2 more cylinders. The only Lambo V10 is the 5.0 in the original Gallardo.

Nice cherry picked lap times in unknown conditions by unknown publications, but it was uncompetitive.
>>

It was meant to deliver somewhat similar performance compared to the european exotics at the time, while being slightly cheaper than them, but most importantly it was something you can drive comfortably/reliably daily (and larp that you have a mid engine supercar). However the biggest issue with that was that honda back then was seen as a shitbox manufacturer and nothing more. It was also the only "super" car that came with a NA v6 in that price point, so it didn't have the hp/tq numbers as well. If it had a high revving v8/v10/v12 it certainty would have been a better performing car. The picture you posted also doesn't have the competitors to the nsx, except the vr-4 and 911 turbo (is it a 964 or 993, we don't know) which were more expensive. And before you say "but the corvette or rx-7", just like how the audi r8 v10 was beaten by a cheaper front engine v8 corvette, does that mean the r8 was uncompetitive as well?. The reality is that it doesn't matter, because rich people buy fast cars (with fancy badges) to show off. Just look up the Urus sales figures compared to the rsq8.

>>27982400
the R8 is only beaten by the Z06, the NSX is contested by basic sports cars. here lies why the R8 is taken seriously as a super car and the NSX is not. the Z06 is a super car killer. you would expect it to beat the R8. but a base model vette could never contest an R8 in any way. the NSX on the other hand, was just a sports car that people thought was overpriced and no one but Honda even considered it a rival to Ferrari or Porsche. they would've been cross shopping it with the Supra, Rx7, and Corvette.

the issue is that it simply didn't have the performance of a super car at all, and the R8 actually does. none of the basic sports cars like regular vettes could out-accelerate it. few things but other super cars (and super car beaters like the Z06) could match its top speed. and you especially weren't competing with it on the track with anything but super car beaters and other super cars.

also, that's a 964 in that image. the 993 Turbo was AWD but they don't mention that for the 911 in that comparison like they do the 3000GT.

all those cars werent basic ass sportscars

remember the Ferrari 348 had 300hp and was also beat by the FD RX7 and NSX
>>
>>27983757
a Corvette, 3000GT, Evo, and rx7 were basic sports cars? i'm pretty sure you didn't even need a 964 turbo to beat an NSX. one of the carrera models would suffice as well.

is one shitty ferrari the only claim to fame the original NSX has to beating?

I had to change the transmission fluid and adjust the clutch.
Also changed the oil and coolant.
Had to fix some white noise from the speakers.

pretty sure the r8 v8 and v10 especially are different than what the peasant audi get. the v10 between first and second gen R8 got massive changes too. went to port and direct injection.

the R8 was specifically handbuilt at QUATTRO GMBH facility. owned by audi but they run the AUDI MOTORSPORTS division. same deal with the amg gt coupe. built/designed by AMG.

the old RSx models were the same. some of the newer stuff like the TT RS was not.
>>
>>27986784
Still has the same timing chain clusterfuck on the transmission side of the engine for both
>>
>>27986791
>>27986791
It's not the timing chain. It's timing chain guide that fails. They were all plastic and audi finally figured out to make them metal for certain engines.

Try and find problem about the timing chain specifically for r8s. They are basically non existent. Because r8s were built to a higher level.
