Tenders tend and chargers charge. Splitting may confuse modern chargers so I don't do that (chargers/tenders are cheap enough).

To revive batteries I often connect an old style dumb transformer charger (cheap at yard sales) for a few hours or overnight then use a meter to check mfrs "resting voltage" which is normally 12.7 but often much more. See mfrs website. Once the battery awakens it goes on a tender (I use Yuasa since they'd be wildly unlikely to fuck up their own batteries provoking customer backlash.)

That works most of the time. I store batteries indoors during winter in a plastic tub etc so I can monitor them (and use them during power outages).

Honda OEM parts are generally easy to find. I worked on them since new but we got very few in the shop for more than fuel system cleaning caused by dumbasses who don't drain their carbs before storage.

Tell us more about them than the price. Condition matters.

I have no issues buying 1990s machines which are the latest I own but I do all my own work. The '07 all things being equal condition wise would be worth it but if money is tight and the 1990s machine is in very good condition I wouldn't be scared of it.

Insist on seeing in person either start from a cold engine.

Honestly I'd be very happy with an xrv750, there's something very striking about the shape and colours that captured my imagination as a kid and hasn't let go since.

How is the old girl?
When I did a chunk of the TET before I went into the dirt an old man on a blue translap was just getting off, the smile he had on his face.

yeah the XRV750 is magical, such a beast. And with those dual headlights and colours, iconic.

Doing lots of TET in Scandinavia this summer, I fell in love with the Transalp though. It was the only reliable ADV in my budget, and man, it just ploughed on and on. Sitting at 140 on the Autobahn for 700km one day, crawling over lose gravel the next day. Potholes, dirtroads, mountain ranges. My '92 model is even rated for E10 fuel, which comes in handy in some remote parts of Scandinavia, hauling my ass and luggage to the fringes of the continent.

Even when it broke down - It sat outside of a shop in the soaking norwegian rain for ten days, while waiting for a replacement alternator. No worries, starts right up and takes me home obediently.

It's a motorcyclists best friend, loyal, simple and as capable as you want it to be, even today.

I will keep this one and make it into my ultimate ADV machine. Needs some suspension and ergonomics work, but it will be glorious.
>>
>>28047138
Damn that sounds fun. How is it for standing up on? My experience with small ADVs is that I had to pitch dangerously far forward to grip the bars while standing.

I'm 194cm (6'4" ish) and I cant comfortably stand up. Thats what I meant with the ergonomics needing work. Will get "bear trap" footpegs that are lowered by 4,5cm plus a handlebar lift. The seat is already filled with stiffer foam and raised by a couple cm. Met another dude with a fully modified Transalp (Tank from the RD03, custom suspension, aluminum fork bridge, larger rotors, exhaust, steel flex lines, custom dash etc) with these ergo adjustments and I could comfortably stand on his Transalp. Dude drove from Germany To Nepal already and now made his way from the Nordkap to Portugal.

Yeah, buts expensive. A lot of that stuff is obligatory anyway. Bark busters, jet kit, skid plate, larger tank, maybe a center stand, seat, the list goes on and on. A reasonably priced bike can get expensive fast. But also I know how much damage someone can do to a bike in a mere 2 years.

We’ll see. I’ll see what the dealer wants to do, if I can get a good number for the dyna I’ll just trade it out right. If not, I’ll sell it on the craigsbook and find a used one.

Either way I think we’ll see me shitposting zuki before Thanksgiving.

Someone Is selling an imported cb400SF that "Needs some carb work done" near me
how bad of an idea Is to buy that with no real experience and basically no right tools (and very Little space) apart from a very basic toolbox? Don't think i'll find another One easily here and owner already had some bigger stuff done to it, price seems negotiable at least, can get the normal cb400 with the twin for almost half the price, half the kilometers and in perfect running condition so that's also to consider

I understand the small gas tank is a problem... however... the aftermarket ones (usually) make the bike look like shit and ruin the lines and shape of the bike. I know it's not exactly a locker stock, but with the giant goofball tank on it looks like pure autism-on-wheels.

The maxi scooter is objectively the best format for a two wheeled vehicle and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. They are basically the nuclear power of bikes, because they're so good that we're just not allowed to have them for that reason alone. It's like a vehicle so optimal (best in practicality, agility, efficiency, comfort) just can't be cool by definition. You can't give me a reason why the object in this photo (a Honda Forza 750) isn't better than YOUR bike, for YOUR use case, without mentioning looks, coolness, or sexuality.

I would like to start a movement for autistic people to take back the narrative on bikes and make maxi scooters acceptable.

Check your owners manual on fuel types. AFAIK unless you're hearing pinging, never run premium or high-octane fuels in a new bike. I hate maxi scooters because they’re such a compromised piece of shit. They’re too wide and big for congested city driving. So who gives a shit if it’s got a 3 second 0-60? Too top end limited on your Honda Forza 750 at 110 governed to enjoy highway cruising when you aren’t absolutely blasted by wind knocking your fat ass broadside around, and it can’t corner through hills and mountains because it’s a fat pig. Typically have tiny 14 inch scooter tires with itty-bitty contact patches and less lateral load holding. And the big displacement ones are always heavy as fuck which means they can’t grip the road. And get smoked by a 350-400cc naked standard. But then you’ll scream
>It’s not a performance machine! It’s built for comfort!
So is a Honda Goldwing. Which is faster, more comfortable, and just as, if not more, adorned with storage and lighting and even has a damn cup holder. You know what else gives you the same essence of freedom and excitement with much more storage space and safety? A Miata with the top down.

Why spend 10 grand on a fucking oversized pretend bike with a lounge chair seating position? Because your insurance premiums cost more than your monthly gas bill? Because you are so out of shape that riding motorcycles exhausts you? At least even on a fat ass Harley you’re able to enjoy the sound and smooth torque with out the DCT sucking the soul out of your ride.

You sound like the kind of faggot who barely rides his bike. How many km do you ride per year? I guarantee there are a lot of maxi-scoots who ride double that.
Also, I just want to point out that if you really think about it a Goldwing is an extension of the same concept as something like a TMAX (which like a Goldwing is also not a scooter). They do the same job, just at a different scale.

To the anon who was asking about a clear shot of the other side. I am not an expert on this bike as it was my dad's. Dad rebuilt the motor on it 3-4 years ago from the crate motor he used previously. He was pretty hard on it maintenance wise.

As for the solenoid setup, I'll have a peek. Thankfully, I haven't had any hesitation around startup, but I'll have a peek. I grabbed a copy of your reply since it had a lot of good places to dig on the bike. I plan on taking care of this SoB

How the hell did Honda manage to create such a competently joyless bike?
It isn't bad, it isn't slow, it isn't even that uncomfortable, but I see absolutely no reason why would anyone lust over it.
The engine is ok, I think it would feel nice on tranny. But honestly NC750X is more interesting to ride than that.
Hornet 750 and its engine completely lack _it_.

yes, gimme a kiss
>>
>>28048746
LOL ok.
In the end, it's mostly about how the bike feels when you are riding. Let that guide you.
Also, narrow-band (not wide band) O2 sensors can be had from the auto parts store for $10, and you can read them with a multimeter. They really only tell you which side of 14.7:1 you are, but that's good.
Generally you want to be a little rich at full throttle (for power), a little lean at part throttle (for good fuel economy), and after that you just make small changes to address things that annoy you.
There's youtubes and such on using a cheap narrow sensor.

Do you know a lot about carbs? I have some questions.
>>
>>28048770
I do in that I've been suffering with them for many, many years.
>>
>>28048773
How do you figure out the best carb size for a 2stroke? If you go up too much will the increased air lower the air pressure and give diminishing returns?
My NSR 125 has a 160 cylinder but stock 28 carb, I've seen people put 30, 32 and 34 carbs. Is there some header/ cylinder/ compression ratio formula for optimal carb size?
>>
>>28048783
OOOOOOO an old two stroke!!!
First off, ALL your questions will be answered in this book:
https://www.vintagesleds.com/library/manuals/misc/Two-stroke%20Tuner's%20Handbook.pdf
Second, as Gordon says in the book, the ratio between the bore size and the carb size determins the speed of the air through the carb. More speed means lower pressure (the venturi effect) which means you have to lean the jets.

DESU I'm not sure the added throttle response of a flat slide is all that good on the street, especially in corners.

>>28048874
I mean you hit a bump in the turn and accidentlt blip the throttle and break traction at the rear.
But I don't know how much power you're making. My last street 2-smoke was a Kawasaki S3 400cc triple. Shit was cash.
>>
>>28048881
Dunno, shorter line, slightly more protection for the disc and calipers? Seems dumb.

This but unironically, you literally see all thos e-prostitutes posting themselves online for the male gaze and at the same time crying how they get messages from men, they've been brainwashed so much by feminism that they don't even understand the consequences of what they do.
>>
>>28048881
If that's one of those ATK machines, he was all about using drive chain geometry to improve power and braking. With this setup, the brake rotor doesn't pivot along with the swingarm, so IN THEORY you get better rear brakes over bumps.
>>
>>28048885
It lightens up the wheel/swingarm assembly by the weight of the disc and caliper, which has to be significant prior to the current innovations in cast swingarms.

As well as this you also have less unsprung mass at the rear, also improving suspension performance. You also get greater leverage compared to the same size rotor on the hub, hence why it's so tiny. The downside is you're relying on the chain for your braking and you'll probably end up with lube on the rotor.
>>
>>28048925
Explains why the chain is so clean.
>>
>>28048586
Some people just like riding, and derive joy from the experience of operating a bike rather than the quirkiness or character of the bike itself. For me the perfect bike is one that seamlessly blends with and extends my perceptive space, so that I'm feeling the road through my tyres rather than the bike through my seat.

I cannot find a better motorcycle. And my tinnitus triggered by today's ride reminds me that I NEED to get a different bike.

Fucking based. I’ve got a cozy milk crate I’m saving for the DR650 I will buy soon.

Personally I would sink bolts through the tail, and use a metal plate on the inside of the crate, and the underside of the fender, but zip ties and ratchet straps are acceptable too.
