what kind of mental illness makes people want their car to sound LOUDER?
>>
the lower the IQ, the more noise they make.
>>
>>28068213
unfortunately upgrading my v8 from a single exhaust to a h-pipe is going to make it a bit louder. but it should at least sound more mellow, at least compared to an x-pipe or a true dual setup.
>>
>>28068213
it's a way of coping, their engines sound bad so they make it more louder because more better more louder VROOM
>>
>>28068256
My hoon machine is straight piped with a side exit, loud as all hell.
Meanwhile my daily driver is almost dead quiet, even replaced the factory silencer with a larger and more efficient modern one so it would be quieter.

I wouldn't mind loud exhausts if the vast majority of them weren't shitty 4 bangers. Loud ass big blocks would probably sound sick, not the high-pitched drone of ricerboxes
>>
>>28068213
Actually, the opposite question has been bothering me for a while: Is it technically possible to "detune" the exhaust sound, i.e. make it more silent? Do tuning shops do that or is it just too exotic a request for them?

I once told someone I wanted an Apexi N1 Evo Extreme because it looks nice and is the quietest of the bunch and I got weird looks
>>
The problem is mufflers remove all of the character of the engine noise. If somebody could make a muffler that'd quiet it down without making it sound exactly the same as every other budget shitbox, that'd be great.
>>
>>28068213
It's called testosterone, son.
>>
>>28068273
No, my cars sound good, that's why I want them to be louder.

The original purpose of loud exhausts is chasing performance. If you're doing it for that purpose it's acceptable. But of course people on the left side of the bell curve will imitate behaviors Without Really knowing why.

technically it didnt make noise before this point so I didn't make it louder it just began that way.
yeah I did put mufflers for chasing hoes but they're def coming back off again.
>>
It's not about IQ, it's about accepting reality. We're animals who enjoy physical sensation. A good engine noise makes me want to enjoy it more. If you pull some "we live in a society" shit then you are cucking yourself out of pleasure.
I used to have one of the best sounding miatas. NA8, 3 resonators, no cat, and a muffler. I like slightly louder than stock, but deeper. Throw some straight-through resonators on a high-flow exhaust and it'll sound deep and quiet compared to other custom exhausts. Open intakes also make almost any engine sound deeper.
>>
>>28068774
Indeed. Gays are afraid of loud noises. They dislike guns for the same reason.
>>
>>28069080
I take your word for it, since you seem to have thought about it a lot.

Automotive enthusiasts. Something that hasn't been present here in about 10 years.

What about the sound of two ballsacks slapping together? That's usually pretty loud
>>
>>28068261
X pipes are overrated. H pipe with v8 allows for more pops
>>
>>28068213
The active exhaust systems, where it has that valve that can open or close to produce more sound, is the pinnacle of exhaust noise technology. I'm thinking of trying to fabricate something like that for my bike. Basically splitting the stock pipe with a Y connector and putting an electronic valve that lets me straight pipe it with the push of a button. How hard could that be?
>>
>>28070022
Isn't that what toyota did in the gr corolla?
>>
>>28069928
don't care much for the pops. just been watching comparison videos, x pipes i feel fit better on later model v8s, h pipes seem to have that classic muscle car sound to it.

X pipes will always build more torque, H pipes are for HP and the powerband can be adjusted by how close to the manifold they are.

Cracks and pops are for idiots that don't understand Bernoulli's Principle of Gas Flow Dynamics.

What's the point of splitting those pipes into two tips each, except to pretend that the engine's displacement is higher than it really is?

Hedman Long tubes, made my own h pipe, flow master mufflers, hand me down tail pipes from my older brother the brand of which I have no idea. I didn't do it for sound, car did have exhaust but some shorty headers when I bought it.

the engine is a 400ci v8 so it kindof isn't playing pretend about a damn thing
