> gearshift moves, but doesn't go in gear
> no previous transmission problems, so the first fault to come in mind is the gear shift cable
> engine purs up and it shifts to all the gears, just doesn't move from park
> sadly requires the center console to be taken apart to inspect the cable and ends but there no damn good guides anywhere!
Has anyone else ever had these types of issues with this kind of car? If so, please let me know what you did to diagnose/fix the problem! Any recommendations on what to do?

When you way the engine revs up and it goes through all the gears, but does not shift from park, are you saying that the car moves and the trans shifts through all the gears, but the indicator stays on Park? Or do you mean the gear indicator moves through all the gears as you move the selector, but the car does not move?

Also, manual or auto trans?

the car is automatic, and the gearshift moves to gears and lights them up all while the car stays still/ pretty sure no rpm change. & since last drive/the problem started, the gearshift seems noticeably "smoother" than before.. just looking for ideas because i prefer to DIY and id like to help diagnose

Shifter linkage is broken. The smooth/loose/free feeling of the shifter moving means there is no resistance, meaning it is not engaging anything. It is likely a cable that runs to a valve body on the transmission. If you are lucky, it will be on the side of the trans where it is easy to get to. If not, you will need to lower the trans. You may be able to do this without unbolting from the engine by pulling the driveshaft and putting a floor jack under the trans and using that to lower it enough to reach the top. Put something like "replace shifer linkage (whatever car it is) in youtube search, watch a bunch of different ones, somebody might have a trick to make the job easy. Something coyld be broken inside the trans, but I would start with the linkage. If it's all intact, then the problem is inside the part the linkage goes into, usually a valve/switch unit that can unbolt and be replaced without having to completely disassemble the transmission. Good luck, hopefully will be a cheap and easy fix, maybe just replacing a bolt or connector that's fallen out.

Oh, and double check if your car is mechanically or electronically actuated. Could just be a bad fuse/relay/solenoid if it is electronic.

Thanks for the input guys, you've given me some insight more into what the problem could be!
Much appreciated

But /o/ told me that mechanical cables with shift levers are more reliable than electronic transmissions that use dials. How could this robust TRADITIONAL shifter possibly fail?

This happened to me on a 2008, it was actually a little plastic bushing on the linkage that cracked and jammed it all up, and I found a replacement bushing like 2pk or 3pk and one fit fine.

IIRC, everything on the center console just snapped together. Those interiors have a bunch of 5.5mm screws holding stuff in place, so look for obvious screws and then start prying plastic panels off.
