>Mitsubishi had indirectly entered the North American auto market in the early 1970s when Chrysler began selling rebadged version of their cars and light trucks but in 1983 they opened their own US branch with an initial lineup consisting of the Cordia, Tredia, Starion, MPV, Montero, and Mighty Max pickup truck. The Cordia and Tredia, introduced in Japan a year earlier, were a compact sized sedan and coupe; the Cordia had a different and slightly more aggressive front end. I4 engines ranging from 1.4 to 2.0L were offered; for the US market the 2.0 was the standard power plant. Several transmissions were offered including the unique 8 speed Super Shift. The cars were also one of the first to market with a digital dashboard. For 1985 a 1.8L turbo debuted.>The Cordia and Tredia were middling sellers in the US as Mitsubishi was considered an "oddball" brand there but they were popular in Australia particularly for the performance of early 1.6L turbo models, which became a favored Australian police pursuit vehicle due to their speed. Performance on these dropped considerably when Australia began mandating catalytic converters on cars in 1986. The Cordia/Tredia were retired from North American sales in 1988 with the Mirage (NA model of the Lancer) replacing them as Mitsubishi's entry level car but Japanese production lasted two more years.

Neat cars but pretty rare and you won't find many around. Parts could also be an issue.
