I used to pull that move in my integra a decade ago. Haven’t tried it in the ST, I can’t afford to break it. It’s a fun little salvage title flood car tho, and it can definitely be terrifying.

The Parisienne reminds me of my grandpas 86 Caprice. He used to use it to tow his boat.

It’s honestly hard to say. The car fax is like 10 pages long. For a while I thought I bought a stolen car that had the title washed, but after checking the vin through the ECU, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It got recertified at some point before I got it, and it’s got a ton of Gucci aftermarket parts on it, and it cost me $10k when a clean title example was $30k. I’ve had it a few years now and drive it everyday, had zero issues. It’s a Florida car so maybe it went through a hurricane, but I don’t think water ever got into the interior because it’s minty. Even the underside is completely rust free. Who knows.

Love me a proper shitbox. Simple as

>Wish the nigs didn’t love these things
Genuinely not the worst thing for these cars. Sure they beat some of them up, but a lot of the "old heads" treated them like real classics and took great care of them. Donktards just threw big wheels on them (easy to remedy) and most of the niggers looking to hoon sold them after realizing a 305 barge won't do what they want.
>cash for clunkers
Was the biggest disaster for these b-bodies from what I can tell. It seems like a lot of fleet companies saw it as their opportunity to revitalize their fleet with new cars, selling their old box chevy's for scrap.
>thanks Obama
unironically.
>You should keep it forever
When I bought it I didn't intend to, but after realizing how clean it is (cleaner than it appears), I intend to sink money into it and keep the evil rust away.

I love these era of boxy 4 door sedans. Learn what you can about it such as the problems they have and how to fix them. It’s just a GM parts bin car so you’ll find parts and nice upgrades from other GM vehicles.

Be aware to replace all the rubber hoses and gaskets for the fuel (prolly carbed) system so it won’t burn down. And the brake system (including the brake fluid) too. I’m sure it’s a comfy sedan.

>I daily a 70s era Datsun

>>28096380

Kek yeah. Most of them are so dry-rotted they just crumble. I don't know what they all go to, but the car seems to run without them okay for now.
ofc I'm still going to replace them all.
It's difficult to figure out what's emissions crap, and what's accessories.

It's not a Pontiac but that GM HEI ignition control module and coil is an upgrade for my Datsun over the oem Hitachi parts.

>Yeah, about that. Do you think I can replace this (highlighted green) hardline with a braided steel fuel line?
Ask about that in the CCG (Classic Car General) forum for better advice but:
- you can (temporarily) and I'm glad you're looking at a braided steel fuel hose but I'm also sure that you can get the proper steel line, fittings, bending tools, or just have one made for you (prolly can just order one too).

NTA, but a lot of those cars were just sitting in yards until cash 4 clunkers came around.
I remember watching a news report around then and the footage was nothing but box chevys and those old boxy Fords around the same time.

>>

Those GM HEI units are higher quality electrical parts and much better than the stock Hitachi units for my car’s ignition system. They’re also inexpensive and plentiful in the US.

It’ll just make the spark plugs “spark” better which is good for performance, reliability, and slightly better mpgs.

I dig the old Caprice cars. I'm security at a run down bingo hall, noticed this '89 Caprice was missing some cosmetic trim pieces (gaps around the bumpers). found the owner one night, got to talking and offered to source those parts. Found re-pros online and he said get the rear first. He was super thankful since he was super old and doesn't know how to use the internet. Said he'll color match them that spring since winter was starting. Months went by and he never installed them even once summer rolled around then he just never came back. I don't even see his car around town anymore. Car had original motor and trans at 300k and the man had a tendency to leave the trunk open>>28094945

beautiful. slow. straight.
>>
>>28100065
I see, I've heard bad things about a certain module inside the GM HEI unites, but I guess the unites themselves are good?
>>
>>28102316
Yeah, the GM HEI ICM units were some of the best of that era.

That's why we swap them in! They're inexpensive, plentiful, and of good quality while providing a slight performance increase. The four pin module that I need is around $40 (at RockAuto) and is the GM AC Delco oem unit. You should buy two and keep a spare in the glovebox because shit happens.

The rest the ignition system has to be the correct spec parts to make them work properly though. The wrong rated ignition coil, corroded wires, bad battery, bad alternator, poor ground connection, water/rain leaks from rust holes or bad rubber seals, exhaust leak cooking the module, etc. can destroy them or just cause weird failures. But the HEI modules are reliable for the most part or at least far more reliable than what other manufacturers were using in that era.

OEM works best from what I've dealt with because I don't want mystery rated dubious quality parts. I'm just driving to the store, work, etc. and want to get home safely while enjoying my vintage car.
>>
>>28094499
Nice. You get a V8? I was looking at a G-body Bonneville before I got my '98 Buick Lesabre. Only reason I got the Buick as cheap as I did is because somebody couldn't get the heater working before winter. All it needed was an ambient temp sensor.

I was looking at local cars with the 3800 and messaged a guy like 15 times in desperation 'cause he had a LeSabre listed for ~$2k. It sold before I got my turn. Parisienne was the only deal that worked out.
>All it needed was an ambient temp sensor.
Awesome. People will really blow $500/m on car payments instead of buying a well built American car and sinking some money/time into it.
>>
>>28105022
90's GM shitboxes have so much sovl. The 305 is a dog but reliable. T350/T400 and 700-R4s are very rebuildable. Only problem with the Buick is that the car is done when the trans is done unless I spend 2k on an aftermarket ECU and retrofit another transmission.
>Haha same. I was looking for G-body Lemans and Malibu's. Just couldn't find a good one in my price range, and in my area
Same, I want a cheap v8 car I can throw a used intake/carb at and rip up country roads. In my area, it seems the future doctors and lawyers of America have snapped them all up and put big rims on them and shit. Or they got all eaten up by cash-for-clunkers or rust. I can only find Fords up here.
