ITT: We post the most culturally significant vehicles ever made
>>
the original Mustang, and to a degree, the Shelby variant of it for introducing pony cars. the whole idea of a stylish vehicle in which mere ownership is the pleasure, and high performance options on mundane vehicles in the form of the shelby variant.

probably wasn't the first to do it, but it definitely popularized it.

This is the only reason anyone outside euro boomers cares about le mans. the GT40's legacy overshadows the race that made it famous itself. an entire generation of people wouldn't even know what le mans is if not for this car and the movie based on its story.

its possibly the single greatest story ever told in motorsports. definitely the most famous motorsports story.

You hate to see it, but Tesla turned the automotive industry on its head. everyone knew EVs had a lot of potential since the GM EV-1. it took a pure EV company to force legacy automakers to finally start investing in EVs. it all started with the Model S. not Tesla's first car, but the first one that made people pay attention.

who knows where we'd be if GM heavily leaned on this shit after the EV-1. EVs would probably have a much larger market share than they already do.

It wasn't, the 2000GT was, and the GT-R was never seen in the same vein as even that.

"Skylines" were known, they just weren't iconic until the fast and the furious.

GM were too early. Batteries were still too shit. Plus GM could never make a «cool» EV the way Tesla did.
Even Tesla themselves did not believe every car could be a EV at first. They just wanted to make a cool sports car. It’s only thanks to Elon’s autism that the initial founders were pushed out and that they ended trying to make a mainstream car like the Model S.

No.
Just no.

Annual US sales: In 2019, 7,753 Miatas were sold, 8,807 in 2020, 10,470 in 2021, and 6,172 in 2022.

Global sales: Mazda has sold 37,037 Miatas globally per year since 1989.

Production: Mazda has produced over 1.2 million MX-5 Miatas since the model's debut in 1989.

Ford sold more of the original Mustang (1964 1/2-1966) than ALL miatas EVER produced.

The R32 GTR absolutely left a major cultural footprint, both in car culture and pop culture worldwide. First off, it’s a car that fundamentally changed the perception of what Japanese manufacturers could do with performance. When it debuted, the R32 wasn’t just fast, it was revolutionary with its AWD system and the RB26DETT engine, which made it capable of outpacing much more expensive and established European sports cars. The R32 also dominated Group A racing, famously winning every single race in the Japanese Touring Car Championship from 1989 to 1993. This dominance earned it the nickname "Godzilla". Beyond the track, it became an icon in video games, anime, and movies, reaching fans worldwide and introducing many to Japanese performance engineering. Even today, its legacy lives on. Enthusiasts still seek out the R32 GTR as a benchmark of raw, tunable power and Japanese ingenuity. Saying it wasn't culturally impactful is like overlooking the influence of the Mustang or 911, it’s a car that genuinely redefined what people thought was possible, you faggot.

340 KB JPG
The 2nd gen Escalade was a pop culture icon that took over the '00s, with an honorable mention to the Hummer H2 and the earlier Navigator. Old people wanted them, young people wanted them, in basically every walk of life this thing was a status symbol to all except those "Greenpeace" types that hated the large SUVs of the era. Whether it's video games such as NFS Underground 2, Midnight Club 3, even GTA IV and V to an extent (Cavalcade), TV shows such as The Sopranos, Entourage, and however many episodes of MTV Cribs/Monster Garage/etc this might've appeared in, and even movies such as The Matrix Reloaded and Zombieland, not to mention lining every single toy aisle with those Jada Toys and similar diecasts with these rolling on "dubs". These things were everywhere.
Of course I'm biased and own one, but I don't think I'm entirely wrong either. Maybe it's not the most culturally significant vehicle in history, but definitely one of the most significant of the '00s which I think earns it a place on the overall list.

My nomination to the topic is the BMW E32 750i.
It was a shocker to the whole world when it was unveiled back in 1986, big enough of a shock that Mercedes had to cancel the release of their new S class to completely rework it so it wouldn't be considered obsolete in comparison.

The E32 was a new page for luxury cars and the whole concept of a "modern car".
Before it luxury was having fine leather and woodgrain panels in the interior, maybe a bit of fancy ivory around the gauge cluster and a lazy vee ayte on a soft suspension. After it luxury was to have every single electronic gadget and gizmo in the cockpit to massage your ballsack and ego, equipment lists for days, a fairly firm and "sporty" suspension and road feel.
It could also be considered the reason why every modern car is chock full of useless bullshit, to the point that even base model cars have electronics up the ass and infotainment for days.
It was also the first time an engine was completely computer controlled with no mechanical backup systems, throttle by wire and all.
