They did in 2017 with a (1000 produced) GT2RS by a second, and now there's a few cars faster than SR8. The 918 didn't beat the 2005 record.
Obviously Porsche's racing prototypes can beat it like the RS Spyder (14 made, open cockpit like SR8), mid-2000 LMP2 spec, looking at the lap times is a bit faster than modern LMP2 and Hypercars.
The difference is, you could buy an SR8 without getting on a super special list (918, GT2RS) or pay way more to buy a Porsche race car. Right now the RS Spyder sells for more than 50x the price of a used SR8.

Something as hardcore as the Radical sure as hell had better be a track star, it's utterly awful to enjoy on the road. Porsche's GT cars are so popular due to their breadth of ability. They're competent on track, yet are fun and usable enough on public roads.

as long as Chevy still has all the mid engine nanny aids, the C8 will never be fast enough.

they are hyper specific tires that are basically 40Tw slicks with tread put into them
SCCA banned those for any competitions because of that.
Cup 2 R aren't that fast either.
RE71RS, A052 will put down better lap times.
although those 2 tires will slow down a lot if used for continual laps
