>"Journalists always tell me that you should make a sedan, but the marketplace is so small. So if ... the people start to buy that kind of vehicle, then that will let us make that vehicle," Shibata said to Drive.

Most enthusiasts who can afford new cars will have a fun weekend or Summer coupe and a CuckUV

I would buy one if it had a hatch back instead of a trunk and it cost 40k or less.
Basically I like what they're doing with CX-60 and 80 but why does it have to be a fuckhueg SUV when it has same amount of space inside like a smaller car and no offroad capability?

40k is a top trim fwd Jap sedan

it's not that no one buys sedans, I still see plentiful in my big city. It's just that most people won't buy a rwd sedans because they don't give a fuck about whether their car is fwd or rwd

China still buys sedans but their market is biased towards EVs now
>>
>>28100933
It's because white people are the only market for sedans and nu-cars aren't appealing to whites.
>>
>>28100973
That would be fine too. They discontinued the 6 at least here.

>>28100953
CX-60 is north of 50k here, maybe even 60 idk. The drivetrain would make this new sedan at least 40k.

Nobody can tell the difference between a modern bloated tumour sedan and SUV so they just get the SUV
>>
Which is it:
>People generally buy what’s available on the dealers lot. Manufacturers mostly supply more expensive, higher end vehicles with higher profit margins (such as SUV’s). Most people don’t search within a few hundred miles, even though the internet is ubiquitous.
-or-
>People want larger, more expensive vehicles. The availability of smaller cars is just reflective of consumer demand. If more people wanted smaller cars, demand would drive availability.

Go to any Ford lot and it’s wall to wall Broncos for $60k and F150’s for $50k.
>>
Alfa Romeo tried to compete with the BMW 3er and made a sedan that is the size of a BMW 3er, but costs more, has shittier technology, Italian reliability and the prestige that comes from decades of making FWD shitboxes.

This. Sedans are a stupid impractical compromise compared to having a crossover and sports coupe.

The giulia slapped the 3 so hard on launch that BMW only caught up with this newest platform
But Alfa did fuck up with their refusal to implement more optional luxury features and better cameras. The facelift was when I knew the brand was going to die in the US, they addressed 0 current owner suggestions and just slapped in a screen cluster for the hell of it
>>
>>28101481
>The facelift was when I knew the brand was going to die in the US
They're definitely not going to make another Giulia after this one anywhere. They're barely trying to compete with the Germans and the only hand they have to play is trying to cut the price. And even that only seems to be happening in their home market, where the non-promotional pricing would make it more expensive than a BMW.

SUVs have more room, and if I want a fun car I'd get a fun sports car.

A sedan is just the worst of both world.
>>
>>28100933
>Nobody Buys Sedans

Sedans that sell well:

1. Tesla Model 3
2. Honda Accord
3. Toyota Camry
4. Honda Civic
5. Chevy Malibu

The fact is that people still buy sedans. The problem is that companies are actively making them worse. They don't want you to buy sedans, then they can say "see, no one wants sedans, we're just gonna sell crossovers for $5k-$10k more money with the same features and worse performance"

It's all a scam. If automakers still made good sedans, people would buy them en masse. Even the Ford Fusion was still selling well before they just killed it.

>>28100961
>It's just that most people won't buy a rwd sedans because they don't give a fuck about whether their car is fwd or rwd

People have no problem with RWD - electric vehicles have proven this as most of the base models are RWD only
>>
>>28101975
>People have no problem with RWD - electric vehicles have proven this as most of the base models are RWD only

his point is people dont really care either way, normal sedans being fwd decreases complexity. EVs don't really matter

Ford Focus, I think they're only making them for Europe anymore. That little 2.0L Duratech lasts forever. Think Mazda uses the same engine. FWD though if you're looking for RWD.

>normal sedans being fwd decreases complexity.

it increases complexity and makes cars much more difficult to work on. The only reason manufacturers switched to front wheel drive is that they save on total cost because they don't have a long driveshaft and because due to the reduced weight, the vehicle tends to do better than an rwd equivalent on fuel consumption. That's it

I drove a Skoda Superb through Switzerland for two weeks recently and really enjoyed it. The diesel got excellent fuel economy, but would have benefited from a touch more power. Still it was pretty fun.
I still enjoy by '17 Fusion Titanium (shoulda sprung for the sport v6, but alas) and there are just not any tantalizing replacements out right now. Maybe if the Lucid Pure drops in price enough...
>>
>>28100933
This is the pill /o/ doesn't want to swallow. For the normie buyer (i.e. 90% of the people buying new cars) an SUV is simply better than a sedan in pretty much every respect.
>muh driving dynamics
They do not care how it drives as long as it gets them and their cargo from point A to point B with good mpg and without breaking too often.

>>cars for 20+ years have been dogshit designed for women
every manufacturer on Earth collectively lost their minds in the 00s and launched crazy, innovative, poweful cars. They also lost billions because nearly all of them flopped hard. That's why they also all sobered up and focused on building shit that sells.
>>
>>28106674
japs did that in the 80s and 90s, then when their bubble economy popped and the manufacturers no longer had bottomless pits of R&D money they had to start cost cutting
>>
>>28100933
Sedan's are in roughly the same place that coupes were in 2000.
There's a couple of new sedans available (Australia) from some companies (KIA, Hyundai, Mazda, Toyota, BMW, Lexus and Merc) but they've low volume sales. Vast majority of the small-car and hatch thee days is sort of more like a small SUV, but by far the most models are various sizes of SUV. After that is the twin-cab ute which is in plague proportions despite being all the worst parts of half a sedan and half a ute.
Small numbers of actual 4WD's meant to go offroad are still around and sell well but tend to cost more, there's about 5-6 new coupes available which sell in negligible amounts
