Cash for Clunkers is unironically the worst thing that's ever happened in the automotive world, and it's not even close.
>>
I remember the Holocarst
>>
>>28101312
Those poor Winstars and Caravans, oooooh.
>>
it worked tho
>>
>>28101329
How many cars died in the holocarst?
>>
>>28101404
I don’t think that would have changed much with or without it
>>
>>28101312
>a few hundred Explorers, Caprices, Astros, Jimmys and Crown Vics get destroyed
>the few "nice" cars that got destroyed were literally single numbers (oh no, a SINGLE E30 M3 and BMW 850i were destroyed out of thousands)
F&F Tokyo Drift is responsible for killing far more RWD cars than the entirety of cash for clunkers was. Each car destroyed is obviously tragic, and seizing the engines instead of using them for parts was retarded, but people make it sound like tens of thousands of each car were destroyed when it was a small handful, with the most plentiful cars destroyed being mass-produced fleet cars of which there were so many built that none of them are rare even today. Just check for yourself:

I dont care about americans crashing their ugly shitboxes, nothing valuable was lost.
>>
>>28101312
Biden will call Obongo a nigger on his last day in office since the Dems made him a lame duck president and then blamed him for their loss.

If I take one hour to crush a car and the scrapper has 15 crushers working 24 hours a day, every day for five years, how long does it take the scarapper to crush 6 million cars?
I don’t know, that’s a good question. No, that doesn’t sound really correct to me.
Wait a second, it takes one hour to crush a car? And you have 15 crushers, probably in 4 different scrap yards, doing 24 hours a day over 5 years, how long would it take to get to 6 million?
Hmmm. I don’t know. It certainly wouldn’t be 5 years, right? The math doesn’t seem to add up there. None of it really adds up, none of it really makes sense. This crazy car analogy. Six million cars? Nah I don’t buy it.
>>
>>28101920
The estimates vary slightly depending on the source, but six million is the commonly accepted figure.
>>
>>28101404
>car buying went down during a recession
>it went up after the recession

Smartest shitlib on /o/
>>
>>28101312
That poor Bronco
I cri everytiem ;-;
>>
>>28101920
Huh? The Nazis didn't destroy Jews cars they confiscated them. They also forced the Jews to make cars for them.
>>
>>28101404
Now let's compare it to Europe at the same time
>>
>>28102086
The cars were made out of jews retard
They used their skin and bones to construct tanks
>>
>>28101312
not really, might have been bad back then but all those malaise era shitboxes would be gone by now anyways
>>
>>28102223
Let's say I have a piece of shit, but running, Ford Fairmont or something. It has swiss cheese floorboards, no cats because they clogged, shocks are blown, smoker's interior, bad paint, etc. it sucks. I am selling it for $600. Now, C4C will give me $1500 for it, so why not list it at 2 grand or so? Therefore starting the meteoric rise of used car prices.
>>
>>28101312
Would you have dropped a new engine or tranny into a rusted to fuck piece of shit with a cracked frame? Shut the fuck up.
>>
>>28102223
the shittiest base model malaise era car is worth 400 brand new lexus chink-faced eggs
>>
>>28101930
every Caprice destroyed is a crime against humanity
at least the Vic was still in production at the time
>>
>>28102310
I've done it before. It's cheaper to keep a rusty shitbox on the road with used parts than to replace the shitbox completely. The last one I only gave up on because it had structural damage (deer hit) plus significant structural rust and the transmission failed. I'd put an engine in it when it was just rusty. I took the good engine out and reused it in a different car before I scrapped the junk shell.
>>
>>28101930
>a few hundred
>one year of one trim of Explorer crush count: over five thousand alone
>>
>>28102310
See >>28102305. To expand on this, wow, that clapper is worth 2 grand and people are buying it? Better list my previously $2000 XJ Cherokee for 4,000+.
>>
>>28102412
Yeaaahhh that's not how it worked at that time. The used car market was much, much different back then. There was no asking $4k for a vehicle worth $2k because nobody would pay that much. C4C has little to no effect on the used car market. The retarded prices are from people willingly overpaying for used vehicles when they don't have to. They think it's smarter to buy a used car with 100k miles for $5k off the MSRP vs buying new. This mentality eventually trickles down to cheap shitboxes.
>>
>>28101930
Eliminating the Vics means one less person that gets to crooooze. How can you accept a world like that?
>>
>>28102186
And they used their eyeballs to laminate glass.
>>
>>28102176
European countries had similar programs
>>
>>28102495
Completely different. You could easily get a reliable beater for five hundred. Try getting one for even a grand now. For sports cars I wanna say older M3s could be had for 10k-15k and they weren't all nigged up or molested by paco.

idk man,i feel like COVID hit used car prices harder than cash 4 clunkers did
>>
>>28103902
>You could easily get a reliable beater for five hundred
No you fucking couldn't lmao. Who told you that? Sure you could get $500 beaters but they sure as fuck weren't reliable. Trust me that's all I've ever owned. Even back then it was $3k or more for something trustworthy that didn't have to be worked on every week.
>>
>>28104501
Ive bought (2) 80's fullsize Broncos for $800 each.
One in 2001, the other one in 2011.
Drove both home.
The first one I drove for a decade. The second one I used as a donor for the first one (second one I could have restored but it had "some" rust, was missing the shell etc).
Swapped the 351w (still running it today, only thing I've changed was headers and carb).
Bidenomics fucked the entire country.
Pocket change used to get you a soda from a vending machine.

The penny was viable currency for hundreds of years.
That all changed in one generation.
>>
You are poor shut up
>>
>>28101957
Inspired by a Canadian program.
>>
>>28101312
I bought my first car in 2011. I don't know what is what like before but I remembering there still being a plethora of $3k civics out there back then. Not like the hellscape of buying a used car is today.
>>
>>28101312
Maybe
Put what about the American EPA standards that made small cars almost financially impossible and incentivized giant land whale trucks?
>>
>>28105313
5 years prior those $3k Civics were $1k for one that looked brand new.
Cash for clunkers destroyed the entire concept of affordable used cars because these weren't '70s rust buckets getting scrapped. To qualify, a car had to be under 25 years old and roadworthy.
>>
>>28101312
I'm surprised more people didn't try to sneak off cars and pretend they were disabled, suddenly people were super scared of breaking the law
>>
>>28101312
The equivalent "Scrappage Scheme" in the UK was pretty bad too.
>>
>ITT history revisionists get btfo
C4C completely fucked the used car industry, even today I can guarantee you'd have around 5-7 percent more 00 era beaters around being used for transport, which would vastly improve the quality of life for those people
Cash 4 Clunkers absolutely fucked over auto mechanics as well as junk yards, people don't look negatively on it because "no more shitty malaise cars" but because King Nigger absolutely destroyed the working class even further

I got a $1500 civic this spring. Just rolled 190k, minor cosmetic wheel well rust, underbody is rust-free and solid.
>>
>>28101312
no it's not, EVs are worse.
>>
>>28101930
Yeah aside from the really great Toyota subs that cfc killed, it's mostly been idiot rivers who destroyed the great cheap rwd cars and nobody cared at the time because they were so plentiful. 20 years down the line and they're impossible to find in decent condition, but back then people were giving away these things mint. Old volvos aren't $500 anymore.
>>
>>28101312
Taking millions of used but fixable cars off the road drove up the price of used cars big-time.
>>
>>28109104
also forced more people to buy nu cars and (((finance))) them. this in turn kept stealerships open which in turn helps support the commercial real estate market, the backbone of the housing industry and one of the biggest sources of money for major investing firms.

but it's all about the earth you know, save the ozone.
>>
>>28101312
Agreed
>>
>>28104497
On one hand, c4c was like $3bb total. In the name of the coof hey printed literally $ trillions.
On he other, c4c used that money to directly and intentionally lower the supply of used cars, whereas Trump Bucks etc. were just sort of injecting cash to wherever pretty much anyone cared to spend it.
I suspect that the scamdemic had a larger nominal impact on car prices, as hyperflation ran it's course, but c4c had a larger inflation adjusted impact.
>>
>>28102310
Im about to do this with my shitbox clunker survivor ranger
>>
>>28101312
Not the worst thing that happened to the automotive world if you are the manufacturer or Nancy Pelosi.
>>
>>28101312
>Cash for Clunkers is unironically the worst thing that's ever happened in the automotive world, and it's not even close.
No, that's CAFE for artificially killing entire vehicle segments through bullshit fuel economy targets while forcing everyone into pickups and lifted station wagons.
