Can't you run your own truck if you buy it yourself?
>>
>>28106187
Put a piece of tape over it.
>>
>>28106226
they know if you do that
>>28106222
new trucks cost 200 grand so only megacarriers can afford them and used ones are breakdown machines
i split the difference and lease a truck but they forced it on me anyway
>>
>>28106200
It's so if an accident happens, they can determine if you were being "safe enough(tm)" to keep you on as an employee. My neighbor hauls trash for WM, his fucking truck has 5 driver facing cameras and nearly 20 others that do things like monitoring whether or not someone's got too much trash in the can for the lid to close flat (automatic upcharge entered on the account) and watch the truck's surroundings.
>>
>>28106233
thats the weird part, im technically not an employee, just a subcontractor
i operate my own LLC and pay my own taxes and truck and shit but they made me do it anyway
but yeah the idea is a cheaper insurance premium. theyre scum, im hoping the trump tariffs make it worth it otherwise im out at the end of 2025
>>
>>28106236
Unfortunately tarrifs are gonna fuck people like you in the ass harder than anyone. I've got a shop full of coworkers crowing about that shit right now, Niggers, we sell and service foreign made forklifts using foreign made parts. What doesn't come from Japan or Korea comes from Italy, Canada, or Mexico. The fucking Yale guys are gonna eat us for breakfast if the tariffs actually happen, assuming that the immediate drop in consumer goods consumption of 20% (net cost to the regular person will be the same, they'll just be getting 20% less shit) doesn't fuck up all the hauling and transload guys who are our bread and butter.
>>
>>28106248
eh i doubt it, shits gonna get shipped regardless
my paycheck is dependent on how expensive the shit im hauling is worth, so if it suddenly goes up 50% i make a pretty penny
same thing happened during COVID
>>
>>28106267
In Covid, the free money hose is what made everything cost more. If the free money hose isn't engaged to make up for the fact that we're looking at a 20% price jump on 70% of consumer goods, people are just gonna buy less.
>>
>>28106279
>americans
>buying less
kamala lost lil bro
>>
they wouldnt have to do any of this if everyone was still white
>>
>>28106282
And it's a good thing. But that doesn't mean tossing a blanket 20% tariff is going to do me and you any good.
>>
>>28106199
so they can find you with the drone fleets.

The fucking state of Europe.
>>

YOUR semi truck?
>>
>>28106190
Good luck with that. Even UPS has this shit now. Unions are useless.

>Unfortunately tarrifs are gonna fuck people like you in the ass harder than anyone.
If tariffs are so bad, why did the Biden administration keep the majority of Trumps tariffs? Things didn't get ridiculously expensive when Trump did it the first time.

>What would they even use that for anyway?
They fell for the same insurance meme that offers lower rates for tattling on yourself with a device that plugs into the car's data, except this uses a camera instead. It's a meme because all it does is allow the insurance companies to declare any- and every- thing as unsafe driving.

>Oh you closed the driver's door? Unsafe behavior. Upcharge!
>You started the engine? Unsafe behavior. Upcharge!

Trucking comapnies like the cameras because it allows them to point to a small detail and blame the driver for the incident resulting in the driver bearing all fault and financial burden. As if drivers have money.

IT's this shit that would get unions formed except for that pesky little immigration issue that ensures a pool of labor that is afraid.
>>
>>28106190
Truckers don’t even know how to spell “union”
>>
>>28107999
I picture many of them being completely anti-union.

Anyways, the new tech OP mentioned is horrifying and dystopian. Somehow I picture many people welcoming or accepting it. We live in the most heavily surveilled time in human history.

A law passed several years ago mandating driver intoxication prevention systems. In stead of making ppl blow into a tube the industry has settled on "AI" cameras that can supposedly detect if you're drunk, high on downers, or sleepy. Ostensibly a good thing but this means that a video of you driving every time you drive is stored on some company's servers and if you disable it they can disable your car.
I think it's wrong. Don't buy any car with a SIM card.

Could you point me to that law? I cant find anything about it, just that NHSTA was considering it in late 2023.
>>

>driver intoxication prevention systems
Here, I'll just paste the Gowgul "ayyyayeee" result:
>A bipartisan provision in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Section 24220, Public Law 117-58, IIJA) signed into law on November 15, 2021 requires a new national safety standard for passive, advanced impaired driving prevention systems in new vehicles.
You can look further, I don't care as I drive a manual 2010 and just need to replace clutches mostly.

>I don't care as I drive a manual 2010 and just need to replace clutches mostly.
use less clutch lol. 243k mile on factory clutch here))

>243k mile on factory clutch here
Impressive, I just replaced mine at 145k in the last 2 months. I brake with the clutch, redline everyday, and.... the P.O. clearly was a ricer that got it into an accident. I've had to replace a steering knuckle and the the fenders are cut out in a way that only an accident can do. But hey, clean carfax and auction claimed it was 4.7/5. Don't trust people ever when money is involved, kids.

Take your knowledge and go work on better equipment.
