Sup /o/ I need to replace my old e350. I was going to get a low roof (which, is like 4 or 5 inches taller than my current e350 or something) but I thought why not get a medium roof? The problem is the jump between medium and high roof vans is huge. I thought the medium roof was the high roof at first. It's an extra foot and a half. An extra maybe 10 inches wouldve been fine. And, the medium roof vans look quite gay to be honest, and I don't think they fit in most garages or car washes etc. Not to mention shittier handling and get blown around by wind more.Is "being able to stand up" worth the fag factor? Will I regret not getting a medium roof?I am not a van lifer fag btw. I am using this for work. Having to crouch in my current e350 never bothered me
>>28107105>look quite gay>fag factorIt's a work vehicle. Get over yourself.
>>28107136Yes the fag factor is one thing but the bigger thing is drivability. And fitting in my garage
>>28107105It's funny how much chrome they use on USDM vehicles
>>28107105vans are like boats. you have no idea how much larger that extra few inches feels inside until you've been in one. the difference in actual capacity it minimal, but astronomical in terms of comfort.if you have any decision making power in your company, go for the high roof if you're actually going to be in it. if you're just buying one for your wagies (who you hate) then just go for the one that's been sitting on the lot the longest and has the best price.
>>28107105Even the low roof Transits don't fit in a lot of places so I wouldn't go any taller than that at least for my line of work. Transits in general are pieces of shit so keep that in consideration if you're the one buying it. They're pigs on fuel and the repairs and maintenance will fuck your wallet. A tranny replacement books at like 15 hours. Just replacing the brakes requires the axles to come out.
>>28107177>Just replacing the brakes requires the axles to come out.You mean that they arent floating and you have to take off the hub assembly to remove the rotors? You know thats just 5 extra bolts in the same surface?I bet you are one of those guys that gets scared off by the 4 bolts holding the plastic cover on an engine.
>>28107177Still better than promasters and sprinters. The only other option for a new van is the chevy express/gmc savannah which is a dinosaur. Do you really want to tell me the promaster or sprinter is a more reliable platform (outside of sprinter diesel which dont exist in us anymore)
>>28107206Time is money. It's just extra unnecessary bullshit to deal with every 30k miles. >>28107209The Promaster is a steaming pile of shit. The Sprinter is also garbage but it gets used in a lot more commercial applications than the Transit and is generally decently reliable. The Express is a dinosaur and is no longer perfect but it's still your best bet most of the time.
>>28107234bitching about dropping an axle to replace brakes but then saying the sprinter is good is insane>sprinter takes a shit>have to drive 100+ miles to the nearest mercedes dealer
>>28107241Did you miss the part where I said the Sprinter was garbage? I didn't say it was good, I said it was a better option vs the other shitty alternatives.
>>28107250I disagree I think the transit is a better option than the sprinter because of dealership support
>>28107209>outside of sprinter diesel which dont exist in us anymoreOhYeah, that is cursed. Nothing like getting 0.6l/100km hauling fucking whatever.>>28107241>nearest mercedes dealerOr Bosch Auto Electro. Or any independent who is willing to negotiate air mail on the parts in parcel.
>>28107234>replacing rotors every 30kEven living on a volcanic island new original brake pads last about 40,000 on most trucks. What kind of fucking driving do you do?
I drive the high roof EWB Transits for work all the time. The functional safe clearance height is 9'6". I don't know about your area but around here there's a lot of bus/van/RV traffic so finding car washes has never been an issue. Standing up in it is so worth it. They drive fine even in wind in my opinion, I expected them to get blown around more than they do. Better than the old E -Series/Express vans in pretty much every way. They only truly suck in the snow.>>28107234I see 5x the amount of Transits than Sprinters in my area. The only ones I see using Sprinters more often is the Vanlife people.
>>28107105I don't have any numbers, but I've seen several vids, of conversion vans having a VERY bad day, in parking garages. The high-roof models might preclude you from certain garages. If you're doing work in a city, that might be a big issue.
>>28107105If you're getting a low roof, get an express it's vastly superior in every way and more masculine
buy a RAM promaster
>>28107105>I am using this for workWhat do you use it for? If you actually spend a lot of time in the back, or if you're moving heavy stuff around, you will get a lot of benefit from being able to stand up straight. If you're just grabbing tools and small things out of the back you're probably fine with the standard roof.
>>28107136This. Vans are the new "pickup trucks" now that nu-pickups have gone down the same path as SUVs(luxury bloated consoomobiles for yuppies)
>"low roof" vans are literally the STANDARD SIZE FUCKING VANS FOR 100 years>euro vans come out in like the past 10 years>noo you NEEEEED THE MID AND HIGH ROOF!name one fuckign reason you NEEEEEED a higher roof.
>>28108003To be able to stand in it, particularly if you use it as an onsite workshop.
