Are 18" rims a meme?
>>28110918On trucks and SUVs they are shite. On performance cars they're basically standard. Even 17" on trucks and SUVs is pushing it.
I got 20s on my X5 and it's dope. Kinda looks like pic related
>>28110918It’s a as big as you’d like to go on cars imo. Fine going up to that on trucks tho.
>>28110937This ricelet should've went with tasteful 20"
>>2811091817" wheels won't fit around my front brakes, so no.
18" is the perfect size for looks and performance. Anything bigger is ricer shit and if you're going smaller you might as well stick with 16" so tires are easier to find and perform better in the winter.
14" and less is the true connisouers choice.
>>28111017
>>28110918How big are the tires?
>>28111080>Anything bigger is ricer shitPoor thirdie cope
>>28110918I'm 16" with high sidewall enjoyer myself
>>28110918>Are 18" rims a meme?Yes. But it's actually pretty standard on new cars. I don't know why, I just blame the industry heads chasing trends that they don't understand.
>>28110918Depends on the car. On a big SUV they’re perfect, on a mid-size car they’re ok, but on a small sedan they’re horrible for ride quality, suspension longevity and even handling.I’ve had 17s and 18s on my E90 and I prefer the 17s a lot more. Better ride, quieter, cheaper tires, doesn’t feel like your car is taking a beating on every single pothole.
>>28111263>I don't know whyLooks cooler, but also bigger, heavier cars require bigger brakes and those simply don't fit inside smaller wheels.
>>28111164sucks trying to find something grippy with fat sidewalls though. going 15s on mine
>>28111368That's usually the case but there are plenty of modern factory vehicles with factory rims that have a good 4'' of clearance between the top of the caliper and the rim. That's just dumb.
what's with the hate for 17s15 is the largest diameter i've ever had on a car, can't find a reason to go bigger
>>2811140817s are a meme because 16" is practical and the most common wheel size and 18" is both good looking and still driveable without sacrificing much performance.
Wheel designs are very subjective. Modern designs on something old or very much a design out if its period, might look out of place, but can still work in some instances. Older cars with leaner shapes, often look bad with very oversized wheels. There are exeptions, but they are rare.

>>28110918My 10 year old shitbox came with 18s standard with optional 19s
>>28111164>i got my disc brakes off a mountain bike
>>28111080>18" is the perfect size for looks and performance.it depends on the car. 18s on an na miata would look retarded. 18s on a c8 corvette would look equally retarded.
>>2811091818" is the minimum size on modern F-150s with the max tow package in order to clear the larger front brake calipers, which is frustrating because I'd like some more sidewall thought having to install a lift/level kit and completely nuke my fuel economy. 15-16" steelies would be optimal. I think I'm going to buy some 295/75/R18s and see if I can make them work.
>>28112453Factory rice.
>>2811091819” is ideal for looks and performance
I like my 18s, anything bigger looks silly on the car, anything smaller looks grandma spec.
>>28110918>Are 18" rims a meme?Depends on the size of the vehicle. Just fit the smallest rims that fit over your brakes. If your vehicle is fuckheug or you need immense stopping forces, then big brakes are needed, and then big rims are needed.I'll stick to 16" for me, at least until I move up to a much larger car.
>>28113524>>28111167Looks like the right size to me, looks good, anons. I think 18's (OEM size) look right, maybe even a bit small on my car as well. Mercedes did change them to 19's later on, so maybe I'm on to something. Low profile kind of sucks I guess, but my biggest problem is offset wheel sizes front/back. Shit's annoying.
>>28113574>my biggest problem is offset wheel sizes front/backOn a road car the benefit isn't even that big. Even in racing it requires a specific design philosophy to really optimize for it. All it does is make you worry about two tire sizes.
>>2811091817s? What do you need 18s for? 19s work fine?
>>28113576yeah idk why they bothered for the AMG model, the thing is pretty undertired with only 225/245 width tires, respectively. So, maybe it made sense in this case since they upped the power so much. It probably does nothing other than make me spend more on tires, though.
why does smaller wheel provide better mpg?
>>28113588because it's easier to spin a smaller wheel. Less resistance to being spun and what not.
