I got what would have been a parts car 20 years ago and have done over $7k in work to it to make it run and drive. It's a patchwork project, but has potential.

I also solved MOST of the reliability problems by getting rid of K-Jet.
>>
>>28112873
lol, imagine if they had a rotary in there as they originally meant to.
>>
>>28112906
The main reason for the failure of the car is the engine; and I don't mean it being underpowered. The fuel injection system is acceptable when it works and garbage when it has even the slightest issue. It has a multitude of failure points to have no advantage over a carburetor. The odd-fire engine also makes adapting a better fuel injection system a nightmare, so you're stuck with three choices: be a gimp slave to a shitty '80s system, revert the car to carburetor, or swap for a better engine. The third option being severely hampered by the fact that the car and frame were designed and engineered around that boat anchor. Swapping it involves spending tens of thousands to have a car that is nothing like the original engineered vehicle if you want any semblance of reliability.

If you're wondering why they went with that POS engine, it's because it already met US emissions standards and DMC paid less than $20/engine for them from Dourvin.

???
>>
>>28113666
Per the original contract between DMC and Dourvin, (Renault) DMC paid an absurdly low price for the engine; I believe it was around $20 for the block and $156 for the completed assembly; dressed block, transmission, etc. The 2.8 PRV was at the end of its life and their supply of over 30k would have been scrapped, so they sold them off to DMC at what was, essentially, double the price of scrap.
