british people have had pretty horrendous aesthetics for the last hundred years ngl
>>28111677they seem like they'd be good for lighting the place up real good. i want to install some in my spray booth.

>>28111623It was basically a facelifted Ford Model 62, which was a mid 30's car, so you're not wrong. Bare in mind that the Pilot was released in 1947, which made it VERY outdated for the time. As you can imagine, they did not sell very well. Great looking cars now, though.

>>28112152I just checked. Broadspeed still exists. A broadspeed electric jag, to me, is Thrust SST territory.

>>28112152I wish they made this...
>>28112152This is a super cool wedge.
>>28112152>>28112402As I understand, shooting brakes were an attempt to combine some degree of practicality with the raciness of a sports car. Specifically, the name comes from the intent to carry guns and related equipment for hunting. Estates on the other hand derive their name from being merely a means of transport carrying passengers and luggage 'to the estate'. I've always thought of estates as having more seating or a bigger rear luggage space than a shooting brake (pic rel).

>>28114606It's a bit odd that in since 1997 nothing has come close to supersonic. It's like Americans are a bunch of fags. ;)
>>28114614Oh, right, like zesty lemon is even a type of tangerine. Have you even seen how the US likes to patrol the Amazonian rainforest? It's like 7 leagues above any conspiracy you've thought to have swallowed in your life. Amazed at how limited our knowledge on this fact is, but still the gaijin like to touch base on the weirdest of things, like Buick and the like.
>>28111648
>>28114756Jesus, what a waste of engineering that car was. Glad the Rover V8 basically made it redundant, but it's a shame they didn't figure that out sooner.
>>28114788Buick 215 bro, that American pos was where the mighty Rover V8 began.I don't think you can get Rover V8 powered cars now because emissions are gay.
>>28114819>I don't think you can get Rover V8 powered cars now because emissions are gay.I think it's more to do with the fact that it was getting a little long in the tooth for Range Rover. I love the Rover V8, but it's not exactly a powerhouse, and considering that their primary use case at the time was a Luxury SUV, I doubt the continued use of an engine that predates the Falklands War was a good imagine for a prestigious brand, and the compromises were starting to put pressure on them. Why keep producing this roughly 50 year old pushrod engine when we can just use the modern units the Jag has? Chevy and Dodge could get away with using a pushrod simply because that's what muscle cars are - brute force and ignorance - but apart from TVR, Britain didn't really have anything like to warrant redesigning it for the modern era. Shame, really, I'd be extremely interested to see how the Rover V8 would have evolved had it been refreshed as the SBC / LS were.

>>28111648I shan't deny their coolness, but did these things ever win anything?
>>28112177>>28114606>>28114614>Bloodhound is dead in the waterA shame really. It was designed to beat Thrust SSC. The original plan was to have an Eurofighter engine IIRC and a liquid-solid rocket booster, with the turbopump powered by an engine donated by Aston Martin. Then they switched to an all solid booster, had some high speed tests, then they went silent.
>>28112152The more I learn about Jaguar's rebranding, and the behind-the-scenes, the more I am repulsed. The lead behind it, an American educated at Boston University, is doubling down on LinkedIn, and doesn't seem to have a clue as to what made Jaguar compelling in the first place. The top management must take their share of the blame too, for apparently not realising how horrible this would turn out for the company.
>>28115709Of course not
>>28115832My guess is that nobody has come close to SSC and that was about 27 years ago. I suspect no competition means no need to compete. I'm sure if someone was to go supersonic then Mach 2 would be on.
>>28111648as british as it gets>saturday, late summer night>you and your friends pre-gaming>after half an hour of wait, you look out of a window and there she is in all of her glory>black, well weathered TX1 already with stories to tell that happened this evening>with wobbly step, you and your crew get in>indian or slav behind the wheel>overpowering smell of cheap, sweet, cinnamon perfumes fills your nostrils>window slid open just a little bit, you can hear shouts and cheers from the outside in between laughter and conversations from the inside>you rest your head against window, looking outside, everything's a blur for the next few minutes

>>28119350My dad bought one of those on a whim once. It had a sunroof that he forgot to close one night, and of course it was that night that the heavens opened. Did a pretty good job of holding water, surprisingly, quite a bit was still left inside when we opened it up in the morning.
>>28119350Seriously tight turning circle, they're no Scammell Scarab but then nothing is.
>>28120517The trailer couplings on these were really weird...
>>28120526Slam back grab the trailer and stow the jockey wheels in one go and away you scoot.
>>28120509Noice 'Farina. What was the engine in this, 'cus if I recall as part of a deal with Rolls, some of these had a 4 Litre Rolls-Royce engine. Also, on the topic of the FX4, they really are an example that we Brits, when we can be bothered, can produce a well-made and reliable car. :)
>>28120517Bring back the Scarab lol! :)
>>28120542Can't deny it works, but really baffled me the first time I saw it. Really clever little system, though.
>>28120612By the time you added crash protection airbags auto cruise lane keep backup cameras and all the things I've forgetten it'll be a 3.5 tonner with a fifth wheel.Sod that. :)
>>28120610Thanks. She is a 4 Litre R, so should have the Rolls-Royce FB60, but someone in Australia took that out and replaced it with a carb converted Nissan L28E, which is what made me want it in the first place. The picture makes it look a little rough, but honestly you'd think the conversion was done at the factory, they did a fantastic job.>we Brits, when we can be bothered, can produce a well-made and reliable car. :)Kinda of beating a dead horse at this point, but I really would have loved to see how things would had progressed in the British auto industry had BL not fucked everything up.
>>28120629MCM has just dropped a video on their 240. The end result is nice. You might like it.https://youtu.be/844PvOyhv0gI have the poster, the feds open it.
>>28120645Great example of why peak numbers are almost worthless. That power gain under the curve is seriously impressive.
>>28120629Huh. More power from a smaller engine, am I right?
>>28121545It has a higher hp per litre than the 4 Litre Rolls, but falls short around 30-ish hp, and obviously lacks the low end torque. That being said, the L28 lump still makes a bit more power than the BMC 3 Litre, so it certainly doesn't feel underpowered. A nice bonus is that if you really lay into the throttle, it sounds like a race-spec 240z, which is both jarring and entertaining.

>>28123794yeah, the V12 was awesome but the HB cosworth is still greatremember it was originally used in F1 and the thing revs to nearly 12,000 RPMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f7gMyEVVOE&ab_channel=wheelstherapyTV
>>28123617
>>28123482this image could not be more british if the jet was wearing a top hat and monocle
>>28111677The point of them was to give detailers a bunch of straight lines from different angles to reflect off paint and let them see imperfections easily.
>>28123855great pov, my favorite thing about that car beside the overall design is the shape of the cockpithttps://youtu.be/_nb1SrAp_UE?si=hINXVdQIO6u5vr9a&t=37https://youtu.be/RaxMX93gSig?si=piJYFSiuetcgrS74&t=200the cosworth is mental but I prefer the melodious purr of the lower revving 12 cylinder, believe me not by much though
>>28123794>>28123960Daimler's are so cool. Shame we no longer have them around. Then again, if Jaguar was willing to fuck their own branding so hard, can you imagine what they would do with Daimler?
>>28120684British engineering prowess was second to none.
>>28126266Eurphe
>>28111726I don't mind the look of the XJS. I think the twin-turbo v12 LeMans that Lister made out of it is absolute peak. The wheels are just fantastic.

>>28126898Ferhdern
>>28111648What are people's thoughts on the modern Rolls and Bentley?
>>28128543Don't like the way they look as they have what I think is a disproportionately small width to height ratio, making them look comically top heavy, but on a technical level they're about what I'd expect from the brand. At least they're not gatekeeping cunts like Ferrari.
